Second Grade: Day 12

Today is Thursday and it’s P.E. and they played “clean the yard” (a little like dodge ball).

She didn’t say anything else about her day and when she brought her folder home, she couldn’t remember what papers went with what day. But after some detective work on my part, I was able to get the whole thing figured out. We’re all good!

Classwork for today…

They do them and then grade them together when they are all finished.

Again the do the work and then when all are finished they grade their own work. The back side (side B) is what is finished at home for homework. Usually there is only 1 page but there can be 2.

Doing Great

We switched Daisy’s dog food last month after we got back from Oregon.

I had actually been thinking about doing it for quite some time and was researching dog food’s online. But went ahead with the switch after a HUGE recall with her old brand of food. Talk about some scary stuff!

After about a week of her being ill due to me switching the food to fast, she is back to her old self and has been doing great on her new grain-free chicken and sweet potato.

I love her salt-speckled rust.

Second Grade: Day 11

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel and library day.

Isabel didn’t say anything about her day other than they had a fire drill.

Chapel was given by Principle Mrs. B and was a lesson from James 1:19.

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry…

With the help of several students Principle Mrs. B was able to demonstrate “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

She forgot her homework folder and the whole day was forgotten as well.

2013-09-18 035_edited-1Even though she forgot her homework. She still did work (she wasn’t happy about that!). She wrote out her Bible verse for the week and worked on math. Hopefully tomorrow is better and she remembers her items. Learned the important “R” lesson today about RESPONSIBILITY!

She brought her folder home on Thursday so I was able to add a few things for today…

Bible verse practice test.
Great job but she forgot her number…

Mrs. “Noza” is ready for school to begin!

Tomorrow is my first day back to work! We have 19 kids in the a.m. class and 13 in the p.m. class. We have 2 sets of girl twins and 1 set of quads! Looking forward to this new year and all the learning that’s in store!

Second Grade: Day 10

Today is Tuesday and it’s music class.

Music class was the same as yesterday. They played hand rhythm games with a partner, who was Mr. L again.

Someone had brought a turkey feather during their S.a.T. today. The person said that their family was special (the theme for this week) because they went hunting together to get a wild turkey. They got a turkey and took it home to eat. Isabel thought this was the coolest thing, she wanted a turkey feather too.

Nothing else was said about the day other then she learned how to do a flip on the bars at recess. It was the first time she did it and her friends were impressed.

Classwork…

Second Grade: Day 9

Today is Monday and it’s All-School Open and music class.

Isabel said A.S.O. was a fun one. They sang one of her favorite songs “I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N”. They also had a lesson on playing fair, given by Principle Mrs. B.

Isabel got her first “R” for the year this morning. She got it in “Responsibility” for penmanship in her Bible verse from last Friday. She didn’t get her name drawn for a “Shining R” but there is always next time.

Her test from last week’s Bible verse test.
Very nice. The penmanship is awesome!

2013-09-17 004_edited-1This was attached to her test and she said that it was a pretest that was given on Wednesday or Thursday. We love the coloring!

This week’s Bible verse is…

“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; your love, O Lord endures forever.”
– Psalm 138:8a

Today was also music class with Mr. G. The class played a hand rhythm pattern game with a partner. Isabel was partner’s with Mr. L.

Monday is Isabel’s show and tell (S.a.T.) day. This week’s S.a.T. theme is: share something special about your family. Isabel tried all weekend to think of something to talk about but in the end couldn’t think of anything. From her Monday share group only 1 person shared something.

This week is the first week for spelling and vocabulary words. The test is given on Fridays. They are…

hide
slide
ride
wide
pride
bid
kid
eyelid
inside
hid
no
big
brown
eat
people
(the next 5 words are vocabulary words; the meaning and the spelling of the word needs to be learned)
dull: not bright or clear
exciting: lively and interesting
handsome: good-looking
sparkling: shiny, bright
spotted: saw

Today was a special day, it was Ms. R’s birthday. Her mother brought the whole class pizza and cupcakes for lunch! Happy Birthday Ms. R!

At the end of the day Ms. H’s mother brought cake pop’s for the whole class. They were to celebrate being in second grade, “Second grade is sweet!” Isabel’s cake pop was pink, with purple little sprinkles.

Second Grade: Day 8 – Half Day

Today is Friday and it’s a half day/Fair day. The school hands out tickets to the students for a free kids admission to the state fair.

Today is also computer lab with Mrs. T. Isabel said they didn’t do any AR testing, they went over the parts of the computer and the rules for the classroom. She learned some new things she didn’t know before that will help her better manager her time on the computer.

Since today was a half day, Isabel and I went over to Daddy’s office and had a wonderful lunch down by the bay. After taking him back to the office we stopped by the local Christian bookstore and the Goodwill. Love both places!

Enjoy the weekend!

Second Grade: Day 7

Today is Thursday and it is P.E. with Mrs. S. For P.E. they played “don’t steal from the cookie jar” and “dead ants“. Both of them were running games and similar to tag.

Tonight is parent orientation night, so I will be working as a teacher and being the parent while Gino stays home with Isabel. Looking forward to seeing a project that Isabel says she’s been working on since last week!

Second Grade: Day 6

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel and library day.

They have changed Chapel day from Tuesday to Wednesday this year, so it’s going to take some getting used to.

Today’s Chapel was given by Pastor Jason H. He shared with the students about the importance of our words. What words you put into your mind will be words that come out of your mouth! We need to remember to use words that support and encourage those around us and not use words to put down someone or use filthy or dirty words. Isabel explained his visual message very well and she seemed to understand the meaning of his lesson.

Teacher Mrs. A grades and returns the classwork and homework rather quickly. Each Friday she sends home a review sheet for classwork and homework, if anything from the work is missing she will let you know on this review sheet. Sounds like a great way to make sure that all work is accounted for.
