Kindergarten: Day 130

What a week of bad luck… on the way into school this morning Isabel tripped somehow and fell onto the rain soaked ground skinning her knee. I took her into the bathroom to see the damage that was done and cleaned up her pants. After wiping up the wound, we headed to class to get a bandage from Mrs. Boettcher. Hopefully next week is a bit smoother for her.

Today is free-choice Friday! Isabel absolutely loves this day. Today she played with buttons and cups making cupcakes. During recess outside, she played with several of the other kids, who were playing tag.

Phonics work with the letter “Jj“.

Back: Phonics work.

Writing practice with the letter “Mm“.

Back: Hey diddle diddle the cat Megan, played the fiddle. The cow jumped over the moon. Matt the dog danced. While the cow and mouse had milk. Moo!

Today she got her new reading homework.

“Big, Bigger, Biggest” by Edward W. Dolch and Marguerite P. Dolch. A book about animals in Africa and some here at home, like the moose and grizzly bear. She read through it once this afternoon and we’ll work on reading it again over the weekend to take back on Monday for a new one.

Mrs. Boettcher also let her borrow a book as well.

The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Birthday” by Stan and Jan Berenstain.

It’s Sister Bear’s sixth birthday and they decide to have a “small” party, which turns into a large affair. By the time the party is just about to wrap up, Sister bear gets overwhelmed with it all. Isabel loves reading about the Bear family and it’s great to see her enjoy these books that often teach a very good lesson too.

Beautiful work with the number 12.

Learning that some shapes when fit together, form new shapes. Great job!

Kindergarten: Day 129

Rain… Rain… Please go away! It has been raining since last night and does not seem to be letting up any time soon. It’s been coming down all morning and is expected to continue to do so the rest of the day, tomorrow, and way past the weekend. Bummer!

Today is Thursday and that means it’s P.E. Isabel seems to be looking more and more forward to it then she did in the beginning when she thought all they were going to do is run. Today they had different “stations” set up with different activities for the kids to rotate through. There was a bean-bag toss, jump roping, scooters, hula-hoop hop, and a few others. Isabel said she had a lot of fun doing the jumping rope station and the scooter station.

Nothing else was said about the day. She did mention that Nevan was still absent.

The opening activity was a dot-to-dot counting by tens!
Isabel can now count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s and she says she can count to 10,000!! Wow!

Back: she drew a picture of a dinosaur.
(the astronaut bleeding through looks to be petting the dinosaur! Cool!)
The months theme of talking about dinosaurs has been a great one. Hopefully she learned some great facts that she can share with you. Looking forward to Aprils theme…

She didn’t get her new reading book homework today but I’m expecting a new book to come with her tomorrow.

Kindergarten: Day 128

This morning Isabel didn’t want to eat breakfast, she kept saying that she had to get to school and she couldn’t wait. She did finally eat, but didn’t eat much. I know she’ll be eating all her snack today!

Today is Wednesday and it’s show and tell for the boys. They were told to bring a favorite book just like the girls were told to do so last week. Isabel told us she knew what the boys were all going to bring… dinosaur books. So we’ll see if the boys bring 7 books about dinosaur’s!

The boys did a great job bringing books for show and tell. Isabel didn’t get to 2 of the boys share their books, 1 boy forgot his, and 1 boy was absent today. Lliam brought a book that played noise and was about animals. Lincoln brought a picture Bible that was different then our picture Bible at home. Jayden brought a book about jets. Those that forgot or were absent today get to bring their show and tell tomorrow.

When I picked her up after school Mrs. Boettcher said Isabel had another accident today. She got “stabbed” with a pencil in her hand between her thumb and index finger. She went to the office and get the wound cleaned and got an ice pack and a bandage. When we got home we looked at carefully and cleaned it again and some medicine. She says it hurts a bit but otherwise she’s o.k. The person that “stabbed” her, apologized and Isabel said she forgave the person.

Writing practice for the letter “Nn“.

Back: she didn’t get this completed because of her accident.

Her reading homework book is a chapter book, “I Like Cats” by Edward W. Dolch and Marguerite P. Dolch. The book has 9 small chapters and was a easy for her to read. She’ll return it tomorrow for a new book.

During recess Isabel played with Madeline, Vincent, Mishy, and Tiandra. They had built a fire pit yesterday out of sticks and today when they got out onto the playground someone had made a castle out of the fire pit sticks. Isabel said they had to keep the other boys away from their castle and the “treasure” that they found. Isabel said she hid the “treasure” in one of the tires used to get to the monkey bars. Sounds like she had a lot of fun and I’m glad to hear she was playing with some of the girls as well.

Kindergarten: Day 127

This morning was gloomy gray morning, and remained so the rest of the day,  as we headed off to school. We had a lot errands to do before picking Isabel up at 11.

Today was Chapel Tuesday.

Isabel said Pastor Shawn gave the message today with some help from his son. The message was about not “shriveling up”. Pastor Shawn took two potato chip bags (both empty) and placed them in a microwave. When he took them out the bags were shriveled up and very small. He then took a bar of soap and placed that in the microwave as well. When he took the soap out of the microwave it was huge! Isabel said she thought that was funny. I thought it was wonderful that she had remembered so much from the lesson!

Not much else was said about the day. When I picked her, up they had just come in from a short recess and she had hit her head on a bar on the playground. She said her head was sore and when we got home we put her little ice pack on it to make it feel better.

The opening activity was another dot-to-dot.
Isabel said she was giving the dolphin design with the stripes.

Kindergarten: Day 126

This morning I was working in the office. Which I enjoyed very much, even though I don’t know how much of a help I was, since I didn’t know a lot.

The school had all school open, this morning and I finally got to know it exactly is! It’s an assembly where awards are given out to students for the previous week. Isabel was in the draw this week but she didn’t get picked for a “prize”, maybe next time. Also with the end of the quarter, awards were given out for achievements made by the older kids during the quarter. All school open is kept short and they open with a few songs, followed by prayer, and then the awards are handed out.

Since I was working after she got out of school I didn’t get all the info about her day and when I asked her later, she said she couldn’t remember.

The opening activity was a dot-to-dot.
The scribble over the name is not a scribble, it’s a hidden picture,
can you see  the picture?

Kindergarten: Day 125

This morning was gorgeous when I drove Isabel to school today, not a cloud in the sky! We did have some frost overnight but it didn’t stick around long after the sun came over the mountain in the backyard. The afternoon was a bit cloudy and the sun ended up playing peek-a-boo all the rest of the day.

Today was Spirit Friday. All the kids were allowed to wear team apparel for their favorite team.

We picked up Isabel from school and headed out to eat for a free lunch! The afternoon was spent updating the blog, while Gino and Isabel spent some time outside. Isabel didn’t mention anything about her day.

Math work writing number 11.

Back: measuring practice.

Kindergarten: Day 124

This morning I am working again but only working to cover morning breaks and lunches, I should be off around the time Isabel is out of school. Hurray! I’ve missed picking her up and hearing about her day first hand this week.

We had some snow on the ground this morning that actually stuck around until about noon. It was less then an inch, but Isabel enjoyed it. She even got Daddy and I with smack of a snowball after school!

Since we forgot her show-and-tell yesterday, we made sure that she had it this morning! She took the book…

God Gave Us Christmas” by Lisa Tan Bergren. She said it wasn’t her favorite book because she doesn’t have a favorite book (that’s my girl).

The opening activity was a dot-to-dot of a Brachiosaurus (bray-kee-oh-sore-is).

Isabel didn’t give me to much detail about her day but she did say that they had music class with Mrs. Seal, did P.E. in the gym, and went to recess too! During recess she said she made a big snowman and snowballs too. She is hoping that the snowman is there tomorrow when she goes back out for recess.

Later in the afternoon, we all went for a walk together, Gino took Daisy along too while Isabel rode her scooter. She’s getting better at it and can go for short periods balanced on the board. We walked around the neighborhood and were surprised to see crocuses, daffodils, and some other flowers that I couldn’t identify. We are so excited for warm temperatures! We had a great walk and I know Isabel was tired from her scooter ride by the time we got home.

Kindergarten: Day 123

This morning I have to work the opening shift and working a full shift, so I’m not able to take Isabel to school or pick her up.

Today is Wednesday and is the girls show-and-tell day. They were told to bring a favorite book, however we forgot about it and Isabel ended up taking her show-and-tell the next day.

Writing practice with the letter “Pp“.

Back: Pam the Parrot lives at the Pet store where Peter the Pig works with a Pink Poodle and other Playful Puppies.

Not much was said about the day and I was worn out from a very hard day at work.
