Second Grade: Day 19

Our neighborhood experienced a TORNADO this morning! That’s totally unheard of in our neck of the woods but it really did happen! Several homes in our neighborhood have damage and an industrial park, close by, experienced damage to buildings. Crazy right!

What is even more amazing is that Isabel and I both witnessed the tornado going through our neighborhood! She was looking out our back window and called me over to see all this debris flying through the air. As I’m looking out the window, I’m thinking “that looks like a tornado!” and I’m also thinking “we don’t get tornado’s!”. With that I close the blinds and go back to making Isabel’s lunch. Nothing more was thought about it until Gino called me from work, to say a tornado went through our area! Crazy!

No one was hurt by the tornado and the only damage done was to buildings and a few cars. Thankful for that! God is in control!

Today is Monday and it’s music class.
(A.S.O. – All School Opening, has been moved to Tuesdays)

The Bible verse for this week…

” The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom (or what) shall I be afraid?”
– Psalms 27:1

This week’s Bible lesson is on God calling us to obey and serve Him.

This week’s S.a.T. (show and tell) theme is to share your favorite book or story about fall. Isabel was the only one to share today and she took her book (below) and during lunch Teacher Mrs. A read it to the class.

We love this awesome fall book!

Also this week, Isabel is the “paper person”. She gets to hand out everyone’s take home work at the end of the day and place it in their mailboxes. She said she enjoyed doing it today.

In Social Studies they will be working on Continents and Oceans.

This week’s spelling words are…

barked

opened
mailed

about

same
chipmunks: small, striped member of the squirrel family

The first field trip for the school year will be on October 23rd. The class will be heading to another campus (in our same school district) for a special fire prevention assembly. More information will be coming soon.

Classwork…

All the work she brought home today was from last Friday. She didn’t have anything from today. So I’m thinking whatever was done today needed to be handed in and graded. We’ll see it tomorrow or later in the week.

Great job on her spelling test on Friday.

They also did this vocabulary worksheet with their words from the week.

Last week’s Bible verse test.
Great job!

Snow And Frost – Just Like Me

This afternoon Isabel said she wanted to make a poem book (reminds me of my Grandmother!). So while I worked on the blog and Daddy did some work, she sat at her table in the kitchen and worked on getting her poem book started.

Her first poem for her book is an original!

Second Grade: Day 18 – Half Day

Today is Friday and it’s a half day (teacher work day)  for Isabel. Preschool was running all day so I am not off work, however, Gino is off, so he’ll be able to pick her up from school.

Today was a spelling/vocabulary test and Bible verse testing. They also did AR (accelerated reader) testing in the computer lab with Mrs. T.

Isabel passed her Bible verse test (see below) but the spelling test wasn’t in with her paperwork (might see that in the folder Monday after school).

Bible verse test for week of September 23-27th, 2013

Isabel remembered to bring home her folder and papers today. So we can get a jump start on next week’s Bible verse, spelling words and know what S.a.T. is about.

Isabel got a “Fantastic” on her end of week assignment sheet and for doing so she got a responsibility “R“. The end of the week assignment sheet is what Teacher Mrs. A, uses to communicate missing assignments during the week that are graded. This week Isabel handed all her assignments in to be graded! Each week I need to review the sheet (if there are assignments missing, find them and have Isabel hand them in on Monday) and then return the sheet signed back to Teacher Mrs. A.

Second Grade: Day 16

Today is Wednesday and that means Chapel and library.

Principle Mrs. B gave the message today in Chapel. She gave a message about thinking before we speak.

THINK = True, Helpful, In love, Necessary, and Kindness

Is what I’m about to say…

1. Is it True?
2. Is it Helpful?
3. Is it In love?
4. Is it Necessary?
5. Is it in Kindness?

… to the person(s) I am speaking to (about).
(Very good message!)

Today Isabel said she took a math test. She isn’t sure what she got on it yet but she thinks she did a good job. She said, “The problems were easy.”

Ms. N shared during S.a.T. (Show and Tell). Ms. N brought a photo of when she was a baby. Which fit with the theme for this week; share something about when you were younger.

Today was Ms. N’s birthday! Her mother brought cake pops to share with the entire class. Isabel said she enjoyed it.

During Library today, Isabel got a Jack and Annie book from the Magic tree-house series. She said the book is about Paris and the Eiffel tower.

Second Grade: Day 15

Today is Tuesday and it’s music class with Mr. G.

Music class wasn’t an better then yesterday. So the whole class had to give up some of their recess time because of poor decisions. Hopefully they have learned their lesson.

Today seemed like an all around bad day for a few people… tomorrow is a new start, remember the lesson and keep moving forward.

Isabel didn’t tell me anything about her actually school day other then music class and recess. She has learned to do a back flip off the bars at school! YIKES!!!

Second Grade: Day 14

Today is Monday! It’s A.S.O. and music class.

I did subbing today in the 4’s preschool class and I was super excited! I got to see some of my little friends from my class last year! I  also helped with the elementary lunch recess.

Today was A.S.O. (All School Open) and music class. During A.S.O. Isabel got chosen for a “Shining R“! She said she picked a bracelet but I haven’t seen it yet.

Last week’s Bible verse test…

2013-09-25 008_edited-1

She did a beautiful job and remembered her number! She’s number 1.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
– Psalm 139:16

Today was also music class with Mr. G. The class wasn’t on their best behavior in class. Bummer! Hopefully they can have better behavior as a whole tomorrow in music class.

Monday is Isabel’s show and tell (S.a.T.) day. This week’s S.a.T. theme is: share something about yourself when you were young. Since Isabel forget her paperwork on Friday, we had no idea what the theme was, so she didn’t share, again this week.

Last week’s spelling test…

2013-09-25 009_edited-1

She got 100% but forgot her number…

This week’s spelling and vocabulary words are…

take
make

brake
snake

always: all the time

D.L.R.

Don’t Judge

I saw this somewhere on the web this week and it really hit close to home.

945377_557979464265275_870651303_n

“Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges a brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one law giver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?”
– James 4: 11-12 (ESV)

My Project 1-001 (3)_edited-1

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” – Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)

My Project 1-001 (3)_edited-1

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” – Colossians 3:12-15 (ESV)

My Project 1-001 (3)_edited-1

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good work. Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.” – Titus 2:11-15

Second Grade: Day 13

Today is Friday!

It’s been working out rather nicely having Isabel come to my classroom after school on the days that I work. She helps us get the classroom ready for the next day or the weekend. It’s great.

Isabel forgot her homework folder again today! I’m a bit disappointed since I have no idea what is planned for the week ahead. So she’ll be a day behind on everything like learning her Bible verse and spelling/vocabulary words.

Happy Weekend!
