Blue Bird

Tonight while Isabel was getting ready for bed and I was putting laundry away in her room. She told me she had a surprise for me…

I was thinking it was something made from paper since she makes so many things from paper. But I was wrong, it’s not paper.

She said at first she thought about using pink but decided against it because I don’t like pink. So she used blue instead.

I love it!

The little bird is so cute.
Isabel told me she worked really hard at trying to get the bird just so.

Second Grade: Day 130

Today is Monday and it’s the last day of March! We have had the most rainfall for the month, ever! We ended the month with almost 10 inches of rainfall! It’s been a soggy one!

We are almost finished with our school year, we have 2 1/2 months left. This Thursday will mark the end of third quarter.

Isabel said they didn’t have music class with Mr. G today. They did art instead. They will finish their art tomorrow. They are making castle pictures.

Teacher Mrs. A was at a teacher conference, so the class had a substitute. Isabel said she didn’t know if Teacher Mrs. A would be back tomorrow or not.

The Bible verse for this week is…

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
– Ephesians 6:10-11

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is free choice…

2014-04-01 001_edited-1

Isabel took her rubber band plane, she has 2 but only took 1 to share with the class.
After school she said, she didn’t get to share with class today. The substitute didn’t want the kids to share. So she’ll take her plane again tomorrow and maybe get to share it then.

This week in class they will be learning the lowercase cursivey“, “x” and “v“.

The spelling words for the week are…

new
crew
stew
grew
threw
bruise
fruit
pursuit
juice
recruit
you’ll
shouldn’t
church
windows
sisters
conductor: someone who is in charge of a train
created: made or designed something
imitated: copied something or someone
rhythm: a regular beat in music, poetry or dance
startled: surprised someone and made the person jump

Language arts this week is verbs, past tense; subject-verb agreement and “Max Found Two Sticks“.

Last week’s “Penny Drive” raised just under $600.00 for Samaritan’s Purse! Isabel’s class tied with 2 other classes with bringing the most money in all.

Second Grade: Day 125

Today is Monday and it’s Mission’s week at school.

Isabel’s class will be learning about how the Gospel of Christ is being shared in Egypt. Isabel said there is a new bulletin board in class about Egypt with photos and Teacher Mrs. A has a REAL dress from Egypt too.

Also, today is music class with Mr. G, it’s also the last day for the “Penny Drive” and I am working a full day today. Isabel will be in extended school before school and after school. I’m really going to miss hearing about her school day…

This week’s Bible verse is…

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is to share your favorite Bible character and explain why. I completely forgot to talk with Isabel about this Sunday! We usually go over the S.a.T. Sunday night and get it ready for Isabel’s Monday S.a.T. day however we were talking with family on Sunday and it completely slipped my mind! So she didn’t talk about anything and she mentioned that no one did today!

There will be no spelling test or new cursive letter(s) this week. Language arts this week is a review of dictionary skills.

The “Penny Drive” ended today and Isabel said her class had the largest total amount given by $10.00. Tomorrow is the Mission’s Chapel and the school will present Samaritan’s Purse with a check for all the monies received from the “Penny Drive“.

Bella Bear” went back to school today, probably for the last time this year. Not enough weeks in the school year and to many girls in class. Isabel was able to have her twice over extended weekends. The first time was over Thanksgiving break and then this weekend being a 3 day weekend. She enjoyed having her here and would take her with whenever we would leave (reminded me of those days when we HAD to have Lula). At the end of the year we will see who gets to “win” Bella Bear’s journal!

One last hug before she heads back to school.

2014-03-23 008_edited-1She’s ready to leave.

Bye Bella, we enjoyed having you in our home,
God bless you on your many adventures with other little girls!

Work First Then Games

Even though it’s a no school day, Isabel has a lot of work to do!
She has piano lessons, computer math, school homework from yesterday and reading to do.

I’m so proud of how she got up and went right to work this morning tackling all the work that needed to be done. Just after lunch time she had all her work completed for the day!

So she invited Bella Bear to play some video games…

Bella enjoying herself with Isabel.

Second Grade: Day 123

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel and library.

Today’s Chapel visitor was NED, the yo-yo man. He came to school last year (I saw that show) and decided to visit again this year. Isabel loved it!

“He stuffed 3 facial tissues in his mouth and pulled out a 5 foot long multi-colored scarf!”, she said. “How did He do that?” He did “around the world” and “walk the dog“. He did other yo-yo tricks but she couldn’t remember all the names.

She went to the library and got another D.o.a.W.K. book. She had mentioned getting another Box Children book but decided to get the D.o.a.W.K. book instead. She didn’t mention anything else about her day, she was just excited about NED.

Before heading out the door I snapped a quick photo in her new spring dress.
She needs to wear a shirt underneath but not this one again… it looks a bit odd.
However, she is still adorable and I love her to pieces!
Teacher Mrs. A loved the dress too.

Second Grade: Day 121

Today is Monday; it’s music with Mr. G and it’s St. Patrick’s Day.

I completely forgot it was St. Patrick’s Day this morning but lucky for Isabel, I had unconsciously added green to what she was wearing! When she got home from school she said that SOME kids in her class were pinching. However, Teacher Mrs. A put a quick stop to that. I told Isabel that was AWESOME of her to do that because that’s NOT what St. Patrick’s day is about! We’ve gone over what the day is really about in the past and we talked about it again today. So I’m glad Isabel was “safe” because I know kids pinch when you don’t wear green!

For music class they are working hard on learning there songs for their spring program coming up in May. Isabel said she enjoys the song “Bullfrogs and Butterflies” by Barry McGuire. She sings little snippets of the song while she doing her homework or playing around the house.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“Greater love has no one than this; that one lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.”
– John 15:13-14

Bible lesson this week, being a true friend as Jesus taught us to be.

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is to share something about spring. Isabel said she couldn’t think of anything to share, so she didn’t do it. I was a bit disappointed that she didn’t share something, again.

This week in class they are learning the cursive n“, “m” and “y“. Isabel says she is enjoying cursive writing but she doesn’t like “q“, “g“, or “p“. She’s also glad they are finally learning “y“.

This week’s spelling words are…

we’ll
I’ll
you’ll
they’ll
don’t
can’t
isn’t
it’s
that’s
shouldn’t
preheat
recycle
shop
surprise
kittens
addresses: street, city and state where businesses or homes are found
clerk: a salesperson in a store
grown: in increase in size or age
honor: show of respect or love
route: a series of place visited regularly by a person

Language arts this week is verbs (present tense), subject-verb agreement and “Goodbye Curtis“.

This is a short week, with Friday being a no school day due to a teacher in-service day. All tests normally taken on Friday will be taken on Thursday. We started working on the spelling words over the weekend and will focus on the Bible verse the rest of the week.

Also this week the whole school is having a “Penny Drive” for Samaritan’s Purse. Samaritan’s Purse is an organization that does the “shoe-box” Christmas gifts during the holidays. So to support this awesome organization, she took pennies today and she’ll will take pennies tomorrow too.

Today we raided her piggy bank.
I was very surprised by the amount of pennies in there.

2014-03-17 007_edited-1

She took all the nickels and dimes and several dollars worth of quarters.
She was excited to share her change/pennies for the drive.
