First Grade: Day 139

It’s Marvelous Monday!

This morning there was ice on the windshield of the spork as we headed to school, luckily I didn’t have to scrap it off. The temperature reading stated it was 37 degrees out.

Marvelous Monday means All-School Open. The Monday morning assembly for announcements and other fun stuff for the week. Isabel was picked to be the 3 R’s helper for next week’s ASO. She will have the honor of drawing the names of those who will get a “Shining R“.

This week begins 8 1/2 weeks of school before getting out for the summer. There will be one day off for Memorial Day in May. Isabel says she’s ready for summer to begin. She wants to get outside and play in her sandbox, catch frogs, plant a garden, and have lots of sunshine. I’m with her!

This weeks Bible verse is…

“The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom should I be afraid?” – Psalm 27:1b

Back: write the word that rhymes with the word that is underlined.

Isabel said they started working on their science lesson for the week. They are learning about “Friction“. When I asked her about it she said, “It’s like rubbing your two hands together and they start to get warm.” They will do the science experiments lesson later in the week when they have more time to do so.

Tomorrow is “Honor’s Chapel” for 3rd quarter and it’s also parent/student lunch. We can either have lunch at school with her or pick her up to eat lunch else where. I love when these lunch times are given!

After homework, Isabel got out her modeling clay and made me lots of food. She made steak, jelly rolls, cake, a sandwich, and more steak. She even made a fish and bird sculpture (should have gotten a picture!). She sat there for about an hour or so just making things. Later we all went out to work in the backyard. The weeds have really taken over this year. I think if we go out and work a few hours a day we’d have them out in no time. Looking forward to our garden again this year!

Monster Trucks

Last night we went to the Monster Truck Show at the Spring Fair.

We had a fun time despite the light rain that fell for most of the evening.

2013-04-19 16.51.59_edited-1Isabel liked this one because it was purple.
There were 10 trucks in all.

She told us that she had hoped there would have been a truck that was purple with yellow flames on it. It’s purple and yellow just doesn’t have flames!

We later learned that one of the trucks was driven by a 16 year old girl! She did a good job but the truck she was driving was having issues so she was out early in the show.

My Project 1-001 (3)_edited-1

The last time we went to the Spring Fair, Isabel was 3 and couldn’t ride on any of the rides. So this time, if she wanted, we’d let her ride something. The first ride she wanted to go on was the Ferris wheel. I think she was a bit nervous at first but got more comfortable as we went around. I think we ended up going around 5 or 6 times.

2013-04-19 17.08.31_edited-1Our view.
You can also see the other monster trucks.

Not to many people down there yet. As it got closer to the show more and more people began to show up.

2013-04-19 17.08.40-2_edited-1

At the top of the Ferris wheel.

After the Ferris wheel we walked around and found some rides more her size. Lots of them in fact but we couldn’t go on all of them. She picked a roller coaster, air plane ride, fun house and then played one game with the leftover tickets!

2013-04-19 17.13.57_edited-1

First roller coaster ride – little coaster just for kids!
She was very nervous for this – see her grip the sides of the car!

2013-04-19 17.14.50-1_edited-1

She went around on the coaster for about 3 or 4 times before it ended.
She really enjoyed it!

After her tickets were gone we decided to get some food and see some exhibits inside.

We saw F.F.A. exhibits and then small farm animals; geese, ducks, chickens, chicks, a turkey, bunnies, llamas, pheasants, goats, and miniature donkeys and

2013-04-19 18.25.02_edited-1The first time she patted this sheep it, it baa’d, Isabel’s eyes got so BIG, she must of startled it!
This petting pen and a few goats, 2 sheep, and 1 chicken.

The Monster Truck show was great. It was the first time for Isabel and the first time that Gino and I have seen a show on asphalt. Isabel enjoyed the show but didn’t care for the fireworks afterward. By the time we got home it was almost 11 p.m. and she was to tired, she went to bed within minutes!

First Grade: Day 138 – Half Day

Today is Fantastic Friday!

Today’s recess was held in the gym because of rain. Isabel wasn’t to happy about that but I told her at least you got one.

Again, nothing else was said about her half day at school. No homework this weekend!

She’s really excited about going to the Spring Fair and seeing the MONSTER TRUCKS tonight! We will probably go a little early to walk around the Fair, then the trucks start at 6:30 p.m and then fireworks follow afterward. It’s going to fun!

First Grade: Day 137 – Half Day

Today is Thankful Thursday and it’s P.E. with Mrs. S. Today’s P.E. class was cancelled due to it being a half day at school today. Isabel said they did go into the computer lab to do some AR testing.

Otherwise all she talked about was her recess and no one wanted to play with her or someone was being mean and not taking turns/sharing.

Today is Terrific Tuesday and it’s Chapel and library.

Chapel today was given by, someone, Isabel couldn’t remember his name but he was visiting from an area church. He spoke about Daniel, but not about the lions den, she said. I’ll have to see what the topic was about later in the week in the newsletter.

For library she got the book “Aladdin”.

First Grade: Day 134

It’s Marvelous Monday!

Which means All-School Open. The Monday morning assembly for announcements and other fun stuff for the week.

This week is another short week, since Thursday and Friday are both half days due to parent-teacher conferences.

It’s also the first day back after spring-break last week. Our week was filled with rain and more rain. It was also cold and windy as well. Kind of a bummer, we couldn’t get outside to do anything.

My Project 1-001 (6)_edited-1

Isabel didn’t say much about her school day. She did bring home extra homework because she wasn’t focused on doing her work in class. I told her this morning it was going to be a long day, getting back into her routine of school and focusing on the tasks at hand.

The Bible verse for this week is…

“God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power.” – 2 Timothy 1:7a

At The Diamond

Today we headed to the baseball diamond to see the Seattle Mariners vs. the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field.

This is the first MLB game for both Isabel and I. It was a great day for our first game, the sun was out and it wasn’t raining. However it was cold/windy and then there were those pesky birds (more about that later)!

We were going to take the train to the game but ended up driving down for our first time. Next time we’ll take the train!

Our game started at 1:10 p.m. and we arrived around noon. Before we even stepped into the play field we already had some great souvenirs!

2013-04-15 002_edited-1

Left to right: our tickets, a bag (that was given away at the door), baseball cards (that people working at the stadium gave to Isabel), Mariners magazine (we purchased for a few bucks),
and Isabel’s first game certificate!

I’ve got to say everyone at the stadium was super friendly and very helpful telling us where to go and what to see while we were at the game. There’s a playground and a museum too! We’ll save those for a later day, we’re here to watch baseball!

2013-04-14 001_edited-1

Outside on the street behind home plate.

2013-04-14 005_edited-1

Just inside from where we entered was a cool bat sculptural hanging over our heads.

2013-04-14 006_edited-1

First look at the field.
Isabel liked the grass pattern.

The new (just this year) video screen on the right, replaced the old scoreboard build in 1999. It is 56.7 ft high and 201.5 ft wide and covers 11, 425 square feet. It is 10 times the size of the old video screen and is equal to 2,182 42-inch flat screen TV’s!

Her first baseball game.

2013-04-14 009_edited-1

After getting some much needed food, we found our seats in section 316.
Our view of the field from our seats. Not bad at all!

2013-04-14 016_edited-1

The Ceremonial First Pitch was thrown by Jeffrey Charbonneau.
Mr. Charbonneau is our state Teacher of the Year and is 2nd in the Nation!

2013-04-14 018_edited-1

Mr. Charbonneau after his perfect pitch!

“The National Anthem” was sung by an older gentleman from Olympia. He came out later in the game and sang “God Bless America” as well.  He did a great job on both songs.

2013-04-14 019_edited-1

Let the game begin!

The first pitcher in the game was Brandon Maurer. During the game they used 4 different pitchers.

2013-04-14 022_edited-1

Enjoying the game despite the cold wind and those pesky birds!

Just before the game ended, our section was bombarded with seagulls! The birds were flying low searching for food and pooping on everything (my coat got a bit of splatter)! Our section cleared out and let the birds take over! Crazy!

2013-04-14 024_edited-1

We moved 4 sections over into the sun, which made the wind seem not so cold, to get away from the birds. We watched the remaining 2 innings from this location.

2013-04-14 026_edited-1

The game is over and the Mariners have won.
The score was 4 – Mariners and 3 – Rangers.
