At The Diamond

Today we headed to the baseball diamond to see the Seattle Mariners vs. the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field.

This is the first MLB game for both Isabel and I. It was a great day for our first game, the sun was out and it wasn’t raining. However it was cold/windy and then there were those pesky birds (more about that later)!

We were going to take the train to the game but ended up driving down for our first time. Next time we’ll take the train!

Our game started at 1:10 p.m. and we arrived around noon. Before we even stepped into the play field we already had some great souvenirs!

Left to right: our tickets, a bag (that was given away at the door), baseball cards (that people working at the stadium gave to Isabel), Mariners magazine (we purchased for a few bucks),
and Isabel’s first game certificate!

I’ve got to say everyone at the stadium was super friendly and very helpful telling us where to go and what to see while we were at the game. There’s a playground and a museum too! We’ll save those for a later day, we’re here to watch baseball!

Just inside from where we entered was a cool bat sculptural hanging over our heads.

First look at the field.
Isabel liked the grass pattern.

The new (just this year) video screen on the right, replaced the old scoreboard build in 1999. It is 56.7 ft high and 201.5 ft wide and covers 11, 425 square feet. It is 10 times the size of the old video screen and is equal to 2,182 42-inch flat screen TV’s!

After getting some much needed food, we found our seats in section 316.
Our view of the field from our seats. Not bad at all!

The Ceremonial First Pitch was thrown by Jeffrey Charbonneau.
Mr. Charbonneau is our state Teacher of the Year and is 2nd in the Nation!

Mr. Charbonneau after his perfect pitch!

“The National Anthem” was sung by an older gentleman from Olympia. He came out later in the game and sang “God Bless America” as well.  He did a great job on both songs.

Let the game begin!

The first pitcher in the game was Brandon Maurer. During the game they used 4 different pitchers.

Enjoying the game despite the cold wind and those pesky birds!

Just before the game ended, our section was bombarded with seagulls! The birds were flying low searching for food and pooping on everything (my coat got a bit of splatter)! Our section cleared out and let the birds take over! Crazy!

We moved 4 sections over into the sun, which made the wind seem not so cold, to get away from the birds. We watched the remaining 2 innings from this location.

The game is over and the Mariners have won.
The score was 4 – Mariners and 3 – Rangers.
