First Grade: Day 100

We had a interesting night last night…
The Lord was really watching over us and keeping us safe last night. Thankfully we are all O.K…. I will explain more in another post but for now…

Today is Wonderful Wednesday and it’s music class with Mr. G. Today is also the 100th day of school!

Music with Mr. G was great. He taught them several new songs, one of them was about letting your wiggles out! Isabel was singing the chorus while she was doing her homework tonight. She said in class Mr. G let them get up and dance! She was going crazy!

Two of her classmates brought in something to share for the class Social Studies lesson “Our Changing World.”

  • Lliam brought to share a Pre-World War II check printer. I got to see it after class and it was very interesting.
  • Audrey brought in several different things to share as well. She brought in a record player and a CD player, a old “skeleton” key and a new key and she brought in an old jar of denture paste and new denture paste.

The class made their own Valentines bag’s for tomorrow’s party. Isabel said they cut out two hears; one large and one small. They glued the hearts to a large paper bag! That large paper bag will hold all her Valentine’s from her classmates.

I had to work today. I went in early and was finished by the time Isabel got out of school. Which worked out perfectly! I’m looking forward to laying down, I’ve had a headache all day! I’m done with today! Looking forward to tomorrow…

One Smokey Night

We had an alarming knock on our front door late last night.

Only to find out that our truck was on FIRE in our driveway!!

  • Thankfully one of our neighbor’s saw the flames/smoke and heard the noise and alerted us to what was happening – we had heard noises but didn’t react thinking it was normal noises in our neighborhood.
  • Thankfully we are all safe and unharmed – the fire department arrived rather quickly after I (and several neighbors) placed the 911 call.
  • Thankfully our house DIDN’T get burned OR damaged – the truck was parked only 6 feet away from our house garage. Normally closer.
  • Thankfully it was only our truck – it can be replaced.
  • Thankfully our Spork (other vehicle) DIDN’T catch on fire as well – it was parked only a few feet away.
  • Thankfully God and his angels were protecting us from the unforeseen danger that  unfolded – the gas tank was FULL of gas and the fire didn’t spread beyond the front end…

The first look in daylight of the fire damage this morning. It had rained a little bit during the night.

Looking east up toward the garage. You can also see soot on the garage door and gable.

2013-02-13 004_edited-1

Looking west toward the street. The heat from the fire warped the hood of the truck.

2013-02-13 005_edited-1

Looking northwest. The fire didn’t get past the front of the truck.
I think it’s fine, give it a good wash and it’ll be back to almost new.

I had to get to work so I took more photos later that afternoon….

Later that afternoon we went out to clean out what was in the cab that was salvageable.
For some strange reason, the door locks wouldn’t work?!?!!

2013-02-13 008_edited-1

This was the radiator.

2013-02-13 010_edited-1

After propping up the hood we got to see a better picture of what was left under it.

What’s left of the trim piece around the front grill.

2013-02-13 013_edited-1

So much wiring! If you look closely you can see into the front drivers side tire.

2013-02-13 014_edited-1

The front driver’s side tire melted like a crayon.

2013-02-13 015_edited-1

The side of the cab seems to be alright, just smoke damage.

2013-02-13 017_edited-1

The extended cab looked even better then the front.

2013-02-13 021_edited-1

Looking in from the passenger side. Most of the damage in the cab was on the drivers side.

2013-02-13 018_edited-1

Looking into the engine compartment from the wheel well.

2013-02-13 022_edited-1

Front engine compartment. The fan (on the left) still turns, well sort of.

2013-02-13 028_edited-1

Back in the cab, I didn’t notice this before but just in front of where the driver would sit the dash toward the windshield is melted away leaving a large hole covered by windshield melted glass.

2013-02-13 029_edited-1

This is where the windshield wipers used to be, there is only 1 now.

2013-02-13 033_edited-1

Front passenger side of truck.

2013-02-13 034_edited-1

What is left of the drivers side headlight. The passenger headlight is completely gone (see above photo).

2013-02-13 035_edited-1

Soot on the garage. We’ll pressure wash it and it should come clean.

The only damage to the house was bubbled up paint on the trim and the seal on the garage door (can be seen in photo) got warped.

We are truly THANKFUL and we will walk away from this stronger together
and closer to the LORD!!
