First Grade: Day 79

Today is Fantastic Friday!

Not much was said about today other then the remaining classmates sharing for Show and Tell.

Colby brought a spinning thing. (Isabel wasn’t sure what it was exactly but it spun)

Eden brought 2 dolls. (Isabel was concerned that she hadn’t named them yet and she had forgotten them in the classroom)

Lliam brought a “Skylander” game item. ( I was surprised! His been playing this game for over a year!!)

She wrote out her Bible verse correctly!
Only 10 other classmates got it correct. Way to go!

Her test results from the 100 question quiz she took on Thursday.

Bee Update: This week we will be going over the Bee words (again and again…). The Bee is in 2 weeks! Isabel has been doing a great job with learning new words she doesn’t know. Anything she doesn’t know, we look up in the dictionary, get the definition, and then she spells it. She usually gets unknown words right the first time. Those few that she doesn’t get wrong, we write down on an index card to review again later.

This has been a big responsibility and I hope that she does well. She worked hard and often times not wanted to practice but she gets back on track and continues through. Well, we’ll see what happens in 2 weeks! It’s time to get to work…

First Grade: Day 78

Today is Thankful Thursday and is P.E. with Mrs. S and computer lab with Mrs. T.

For P.E. the class played “pac-man” and “shark island”. Isabel said she enjoyed playing shark island. I got to see another class, in the morning, play “pac-man” and it looked fun and challenging since the students had to stay on the lines in the flooring of the gym. “Shark island” sounds like a version of tag and capture the flag mixed together. Either game sounds like a lot of running!

In computer lab with Mrs. T, they did AR testing. I know Isabel is over 67,000 words now and the school as a whole is at around 13,546,260 words so far. Their goal for the whole school is 50,000,000 words!!

Front: put the right word to complete the sentences.

Back: fill in the right word.

Working with wrap-ups.

Front: color the pictures with the /hw/ sound.

Back: working more with the /hw/ sound.

Maliyah brought a mini Ipad®.

Tyler brought… nothing he was absent today.

Annabella brought a Nintendo® DS.

Tomorrow is the last day of show and tell and we’ll finish up with the last of our 3 classmates to share.

The Seventh One

Tonight, after much wiggling, Isabel has lost her seventh tooth!

It was being forced out by her adult front tooth that is finally coming in after being missing for over 5 months! She’s been excited to get her front teeth because now she can get back to normal eating again and eating her favorite food… corn-on-the-cob!!

Her seventh baby tooth has come out.

That little tooth from above came out from the right of her front tooth.

First Grade: Day 77

Today is Wonderful Wednesday and it’s music class with Mr. G!

Isabel said since that don’t have an upcoming concerts, they sang from their song books. They sang “Sleeping princess“, “The bear went up the Mountain” and “Little white duck“. She sang “The bear went up the mountain” song to me while she did her homework this afternoon.

They had 2 recesses outside and 1 in the gym. During 1 of the recesses outside she hit her head on the fire pole. She went to the office and got an ice pack which made it all better! She’s fine, it was red for a little bit but now she says it doesn’t even hurt. The recess in the gym got to “rowdy”, she said, and they had to play duck-duck-goose.

She mentioned them taking a 100 problem math test today. She said they were given a limited amount of time to do the test in but she was able to finish it before time was up. I don’t know what that’s about but I’m sure I’ll find out tomorrow or Friday when she brings her Friday folder home.

Front: working with the /kw/ sound.
As in /kw/queen or /kw/quack!

Back: more work with the /kw/ sound.

Front: learning about name titles.
Such as Mr., Mrs., and Dr.

Back: picking the best word that completes each sentence.

Maddie brought… nothing that Isabel could remember.

Fiona brought a Scrabble flash game (the same one Isabel got!), a shark pillow that had a zipper in it’s mouth to hide stuff (what is the deal with hiding things???) and a doll (Isabel said she didn’t like the doll; “It wasn’t very nice, Momma. It had a patch on it’s eye and… something else but I can’t remember what she said about it now.)

Cheyenne brought… nothing that Isabel could remember.

First Grade: Day 76

Today is Terrific Tuesday, which means it’s Chapel and library day!

Today’s Chapel was given by Pastor Shawn and he did something amazing!!

He balanced a super long (that was taller then he was) stick on his chin!!! Isabel said he placed the stick on the end on his chin and then balanced it there for a few seconds without his hands!! “It was so COOL“, she said! The lesson Pastor Shawn gave with his super cool trick was about keeping your eyes on Jesus. I loved hearing her tell me about Chapel today. Her face was so animated when she told the story… I wonder who she gets that from!?!

Chapel outfit (skirt & top with matching hair bow) were a Christmas gift
from Nana and Pompo! She looks so pretty in her new outfit. Thank you!!!

Other then that she didn’t have much else to say about her day other then all 3 recesses were in the gym today due to heavy rain outside. Bummer!

For library today she brought home…

This was one of my favorite stories when I was growing up!

Social Studies work.

Unscramble the spelling words.

Learning about proper nouns.

Finding symmetry in the 2 pieces of paper; horizontal and vertical.

Learning about Haiku poetry.
A Haiku of three phrases of 5, 7 and 5 respectively.

Today was day 2 for the week of Show and Tell for the class. Today 4 more classmates brought something to share that they got for Christmas.

Tyler brought an Iron Man® Lego® set.

Isabella brought a secret password pink notebook. You need to know a secret password to even open the notebook – one that you make up on your own! You press real buttons on the front to get it open! Then you can write in it or draw and when your done you close it and it’s locked so no one can see it. (Isabel told me that she needed have one of these!)

Ben brought something but Isabel couldn’t remember what it was.

Nancy brought a remote controlled Lalaloopsy® car for dolls and pets. (Isabel also told me she needed one of these as well!)

For homework today, Isabel had a lot of it. We worked on her spelling words for the week, did several pages of math homework and then did a test on the Bible verse for this week…

Since she now has to write out the Bible verses (with proper punctuation) each week.
I decided to test her on it to see how she could do.
She knows how to recite it but writing out “majestic” was tricky but she did a great job!

First Grade: Day 75

It’s Marvelous Monday and we are back to school after a 2 week break for Christmas.

What a wonderful time we had with Nana and Pompo. We enjoyed every minute of our time spent with them and we hope they feel rested and refreshed. Isabel enjoyed having them here and being able spend time with them playing games, shopping, baking, working on homework, learning spelling bee words, and enjoying each others company. What a blessing!

Now it’s time to get back to our daily routine and get busy with school again. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas season too.

Starting this month and continuing throughout the year, the class will have to write out their Bible verse each week. It needs to have the correct spelling and punctuation, it’s something new we will have to remember to work on each week instead of just memorizing it! This weeks verse to learn and write is…

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalms 8:1a

Learning about National Holidays.
In just a few weeks it will be MLK Jr. Day!

Spelling words for this week.
Along with her spelling bee words, we are working on as well.

Working with proper nouns however we forgot to capitalize Mrs. B!
I love the little pictures she drew!

Chart and graph work.
