First Grade: Day 80

It’s Marvelous Monday!

I have to work today for a few hours but I’ll be off just in time to pick Isabel up from school!

Today is All-School-Opening. Isabel said it wasn’t all that exciting but they did sing, “I am a C” (which was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid!).

I am a C
I am a C-H
I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N

And I have C-H-R-I-S-T
In my H-E-A-R-T
And I will L-I-V-E E-T-E-R-N-A-L-L-Y!

She had 4 R’s on her desk this morning and was able to get them in the bucket before A.S.O. However she didn’t get her name drawn this week. Which is o.k. there is always next time…

The Bible verse for this week is…

“May integrity and uprightness protect me because my hope is in you.”
Psalm 25:21

Remember starting this month and continuing throughout the year, the class will have to write out the Bible verse each week. It needs to have the correct spelling and punctuation, it’s something new we will have to remember to work on each week instead of just memorizing it!

Today was also science lab! Isabel loves her some science lab!

Today the class talked about “sound”. Isabel says that every sound in the world comes from vibrations. Such as a little drum when played will make a big noise and a big drum when played will make a little noise. I love when she teaches me and tells me things that excite her!

Telling (and showing) me how vibration makes the sounds that we hear.
“Place your fingers here and hum.” she says.

Front: pick the right word that completes the sentences.

Working with this weeks spelling words.

This weeks spelling words (along with her spelling bee words!):
sir – dirt – bird – burn- fur – her – quit – when – work –
grew – turn – about – read – write – family

Teacher Mrs. B gave the whole class new rulers.
Isabel used her new ruler to make the star above.

Front: working with “er” with the /ûr/ sound, “ir” with the /ûr/ sound,
and “ur” with the /ûr/ sound.
I love that Teacher Mrs. B is so committed to teaching Phonogram’s!

Back: more work with the /ûr/ sound.
I love the coloring that she did for each little picture!

Which /ûr/ sound goes correctly with each picture?

After school Isabel told me that Teacher Mrs. B had a doctor’s appointment, so Mrs. K. filled in for the remainder of class. Mrs. K played hang man with the class. Isabel said the first puzzle was Martian Luther King Jr. and the second puzzle was the “100 mile” club at school. Isabel got to choose 2 letters for each puzzle that they played, she choose the letters “a” and “e” and they were both in the puzzles! She said that was fun to play.

Showing off her Mickey shirt (from Mommy and Daddy for Christmas) and her
“super fun!” slap bracelet.

Bee Update: We got a letter today with more information on the Bee. What day, time, directions to get where we need to go, and all other info. Isabel (dressed in Chapel wear) will go to school on that day and we will pick her up around 10 a.m., we will meet with the other contestants for prayer before heading to the Bee. When we arrive at the Bee, we are NOT allowed to film or photograph while the Bee is going. We can however take photos at the awards assembly. I was a bit bummed by this news and I am so glad that I decided not to be a judge, I would have missed out on seeing her completely! I will continue to keep you posted on all the Bee happenings and look forward to seeing her there! God bless.
