Bee Update

We need a break from all this learning…

with just over a week until the Bee. We have gone over 97 easy words + 246 average + 115 difficult = 458 words total for the Bee!

She has AMAZED me in her spelling!! Words I didn’t think she’d be able to spell she spelled!

We need to learn (and remember) 29 difficult and 18 average. The easy words were a piece of cake!!

First Grade: Day 84

Today is Fantastic Friday!

Not much was said about today other then her friend didn’t want to play with her today at recess.

When I dropped Isabel off this morning, we stopped by the “store” to take a picture. They don’t have very many items, so we’ll have to work on getting some more items in the “store.” This morning we took an ice cream carton, a spice bottle and a broth container.

Today was a lot of testing happening in the classroom and outside the classroom.
They had MAP testing in the computer lab and they had spelling and Bible verse testing in the classroom.

She got 100% on her Bible verse test.
All the other tests we’ll find out later how she did.

Usually I don’t get a picture of her math work because it’s her homework (back page) and she hands it in the following day.

The front page they complete together in the classroom and the back…

Is homework that she completes at night and returns to school.
Teacher Mrs. B grades it and then returns it back to us on Friday.
We’ll do this homework over the weekend.

“Classco” was open again today!
Teacher Mrs. B says the class enjoys “shopping” and learning to add two digits.

Miss Isabel laying on the bed with me after school telling me about her day.
I love this face!

Today my preschool class worked on a super cute art project!

A simple pine cone, batting, googly eyes, a triangle paper beak and a paper bag. That’s all and your done! Great job Mrs. D (lead teacher in my class) for the cute idea!!

They were so cute lined up on the shelf to go home, I couldn’t help but take a picture!
All the mommy’s loved them after class.

Today is Thankful Thursday and is P.E. with Mrs. S and computer lab with Mrs. T.

Both P.E. and computer lab were both cancelled for this week. Mrs. S for P.E. was out sick and Mrs. T had testing in the computer lab.

Today the class watched a short video on Martian Luther King Jr. and then did some worksheets to better understand him, his life and why we celebrate this man today.

Music class with Mr. G was a fun time, Isabel enjoys going to music class. Today they sang “Oh, Susanna”, “Old McDonald”, and “Itsy-Bitsy Spider”.

Today was Fun Lunch at school. Isabel enjoys having fun lunch. Today’s fun lunch was Papa John’s pizza, fruit tape, fruit cup, mini cookies, and juice. Yummy!

Today the class store opened! Teacher Mrs. B called it “Classco”.

First Grade: Day 81

Today is Terrific Tuesday, which means it’s Chapel and library day!

I had a meeting today after school, so I didn’t get to hear about her school day. She did tell me all about after school care and what they did together, they did marble painting! I didn’t get to see the picture she did, but it sounded like she had a lot of fun doing it.

As we were walking to the car at school, she said that she was tired (it was a long day!) and she only had 10% of her energy. So after coming home eating dinner and doing her homework, she went to bed (an hour earlier) and fell asleep within moments! I’m surprised she lasted that long to eat and do homework! Can you say growing spurt!!

Today’s Chapel was given by Pastor Shawn again this week. Isabel’s mind was so sleepy she couldn’t remember what he talked about.

For library she got one of her missing books (in her own private collection) in the Magic Tree House series; Mummies in the Morning.

Her library book for this week.
Need to get into the computer lab for some AR testing on this one!

An activity she did while waiting for her classmates during her visit to the library.

Teacher Mrs. B has asked parents and students to collect clean non-soiled items from the recycle bin like cans, cartons, and boxes. The class is collecting the items for a store in the classroom. Isabel took several items today to get the store going.

The class did the above exercise; a spoonful of sound.

First Grade: Day 80

It’s Marvelous Monday!

I have to work today for a few hours but I’ll be off just in time to pick Isabel up from school!

Today is All-School-Opening. Isabel said it wasn’t all that exciting but they did sing, “I am a C” (which was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid!).

I am a C
I am a C-H
I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N

And I have C-H-R-I-S-T
In my H-E-A-R-T
And I will L-I-V-E E-T-E-R-N-A-L-L-Y!

She had 4 R’s on her desk this morning and was able to get them in the bucket before A.S.O. However she didn’t get her name drawn this week. Which is o.k. there is always next time…

The Bible verse for this week is…

“May integrity and uprightness protect me because my hope is in you.”
Psalm 25:21

Remember starting this month and continuing throughout the year, the class will have to write out the Bible verse each week. It needs to have the correct spelling and punctuation, it’s something new we will have to remember to work on each week instead of just memorizing it!

Today was also science lab! Isabel loves her some science lab!

Today the class talked about “sound”. Isabel says that every sound in the world comes from vibrations. Such as a little drum when played will make a big noise and a big drum when played will make a little noise. I love when she teaches me and tells me things that excite her!

Telling (and showing) me how vibration makes the sounds that we hear.
“Place your fingers here and hum.” she says.

Front: pick the right word that completes the sentences.

Working with this weeks spelling words.

This weeks spelling words (along with her spelling bee words!):
sir – dirt – bird – burn- fur – her – quit – when – work –
grew – turn – about – read – write – family

Teacher Mrs. B gave the whole class new rulers.
Isabel used her new ruler to make the star above.

Front: working with “er” with the /ûr/ sound, “ir” with the /ûr/ sound,
and “ur” with the /ûr/ sound.
I love that Teacher Mrs. B is so committed to teaching Phonogram’s!

Back: more work with the /ûr/ sound.
I love the coloring that she did for each little picture!

Which /ûr/ sound goes correctly with each picture?

After school Isabel told me that Teacher Mrs. B had a doctor’s appointment, so Mrs. K. filled in for the remainder of class. Mrs. K played hang man with the class. Isabel said the first puzzle was Martian Luther King Jr. and the second puzzle was the “100 mile” club at school. Isabel got to choose 2 letters for each puzzle that they played, she choose the letters “a” and “e” and they were both in the puzzles! She said that was fun to play.

Showing off her Mickey shirt (from Mommy and Daddy for Christmas) and her
“super fun!” slap bracelet.

Bee Update: We got a letter today with more information on the Bee. What day, time, directions to get where we need to go, and all other info. Isabel (dressed in Chapel wear) will go to school on that day and we will pick her up around 10 a.m., we will meet with the other contestants for prayer before heading to the Bee. When we arrive at the Bee, we are NOT allowed to film or photograph while the Bee is going. We can however take photos at the awards assembly. I was a bit bummed by this news and I am so glad that I decided not to be a judge, I would have missed out on seeing her completely! I will continue to keep you posted on all the Bee happenings and look forward to seeing her there! God bless.
