Tint The Pages

Saturday all Isabel wanted to do was color.

She spent most of the day in her room listening to A.i.O. (Adventures in Odyssey) and coloring. Enjoy!

The book she’s coloring is a P.M. BIG book.
She told me she wanted to color the whole book. She’s not finished with it yet.

Two boys.

First Grade: Day 97

Today is Fantastic Friday! Normally it’s music class with Mr. G but today he’s away from the school. So they did music yesterday!

Nothing was really said about today except that someone got in BIG trouble! Since the incident happened just before class let out for the day, it was the only thing on her mind.

Today like any Friday is a big testing day.

2013-02-09 006_edited-1

2013-02-09 007_edited-1Today’s DLR (Daily Language Review) test.

Social Studies: then and now.

This week the class began to talk about “Our Changing World“. They will continue to this lesson in the next few weeks ahead. Teacher Mrs. B has requested that if anyone has antiques could they they be brought it to study and learn from in class. Very cool “hands on” learning!

First Grade: Day 95 – Move Up Day

Today is Wonderful Wednesday and it’s music class with Mr. G.

This morning for breakfast Isabel was showing me her math skills with her cereal…

2013-02-06 001_edited-1

3 + 3 = 6

2013-02-06 002_edited-1

2 + 3 = 5
(as she begins to eat them!)

*******       *******

Today is also “Move-Up” Day. Preschool-5th grade get to “move-up” and see what the next classroom is like! Parents are invited (and encouraged) to attend.

First grade Teachers Mrs. B and Mrs. T combined both first grade classes to visit Teacher Mrs. A in second grade!

*******       *******

IMG_20130206_104427_360_edited-1Teacher Mrs. A showing the first graders all the books (3 bookcases full!!)
that second graders get to read! The first graders were all wow’d by this!

Teacher Mrs. A told us that as second graders we will read a lot. We read books in class, in the library and in our own Bibles. In the Bible we will begin to look up verses in the Bible each week! We will write in journals and have more science and social studies. “In January (of next year) we will begin to learn CURSIVE writing! We won’t learn to do it well, that’s for third grade, but we’ll begin to form the letters.” Teacher Mrs. A said. Awesome!!!

Teacher Mrs. A showed the first graders her power point projector. This was very cool too (at least the kids thought so)! Teacher Mrs. A can use the projector to project anything from a book or magazine or whatever onto the wall for everyone in class to see! She can also use her computer on her desk (at the back of the room) to display things to the class!

Teacher Mrs. A told us about behavior in class and what is expected of us. When we are really really good, we can get into her “treasure chest“!! Teacher Mrs. A showed us what is inside her “chest” that we can pick from if we follow the rules in class. There was candy, bookmarks, sports cards, and pencils! Looks very cool!

Teacher Mrs. A told us about each bulletin board in her class. The “special student” board, I thought was interesting. Each week a student is chosen to be on the “board”. That student fills out a questioner about themselves and for the whole week that student is on the “board”. There are also picture on the board of the student that is chosen. Awesome!

Bella Bear and ???? Bear.
(Can’t remember the boy bear’s name)

Teacher A then explained her 2 bears that were sitting at the front of the classroom. Both bears are given a “home” on the weekend when a classmates (1 boy 1 girl)  name is draw on Friday each week. When your name is randomly drawn, you get to take a bear home and the bear’s “story” book for the weekend. Over the weekend, you are encouraged to write (or continue) the bear’s story. You can draw a picture or even take a picture with the bear and add it to the book. This continues throughout the year and at the end of the school year, Teacher Mrs. A picks 2 classmates (1 boy 1 girl) to take the bear story (NOT the actual BEAR) home! Very cool idea!!!!

Today in music with Mr. G, he taught the class a new song. It’s a cute little song and I got Isabel singing it on video. I’ll have to add that video soon. Isabel said they were going to music class tomorrow too because Mr. G wasn’t going to be at school on Friday for class.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy busy day. Music class, P.E., computer lab and story book testing. The story book testing is something they do each and every week. Isabel is in the “cougar” group in class. The cougar  group (along with the other groups in class) read a story together during the week. On Thursday the whole class listens to the story on tape and then they are tested on it. They also write in a journal about the story that they read. Isabel said she has 5 classmates in her group.

Today’s math was learning about congruent shapes.
A congruent shape are two shapes of the same size and shape!

The class got to work the the “Geoboards” again. They made congruent shapes!

The FFOA

After her homework was complete, Isabel went about making her own restaurant!

“Flying Food on the Amazon”

2013-02-05 003_edited-1

The sign outside the restaurant.

2013-02-05 005_edited-1Inside the restaurant.
Even with the place closed for the night there are still people hanging around inside!!

“I went to check out the newest hot spot, last night and was met with a long line to get in! This place was busy!! I decided to sit on the patio even with it being so cold out. However the owner had heaters set up around the area which made for a better eating experience.

The service was a bit slow and I heard one patron get upset about his BBQ oder. Patrons can dine-in or get their order to go. I ordered the breakfast plate; an over-easy egg, sausage, and pancakes. My waiter was very good at filling and refilling my water glass. I really enjoy that when a waiter keeps my beverage filled! The choices are a bit limited on the menu. However they do serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day.

I will have to try it out again, hopefully this time I can get a seat inside to see the decor!”

First Grade: Day 94

Today is Terrific Tuesday with Chapel and library. I wonder what book she’ll bring home today???

Chapel today was lead by Pastor John G. from Christ Community Baptist Church. He spoke about being a LIGHT! Pastor G, demonstrated by using a battery to make a light bulb bright, just like we are LIGHTS to the world. Romans 1:20 The Light of Jesus gives us FAITH, HOPE and LOVE!! Sounds like a great message!!

2013-02-06 007_edited-1

Her choice today in library was another M.T.H. book.

She didn’t bring much class work home today. Only 1 sheet! She had 2 pages of math homework and her spelling words to write out. A light work day is always good.

2013-02-06 005_edited-1You almost miss it when you see it on the paper.

Guardian Of The House

Isabel has gone into training to be the “Guardian of the House”.

She made herself a sword, shield, spear, and helmet to protect us from whatever comes at us! She’s got us covered; so watch out!!!

(I love that the helmet is attached to her head with a headband! She comes up with 101 uses for headbands but doesn’t use them for what they are for!) LOVE IT!!

First Grade: Day 93

It’s Marvelous Monday! Which means All-School Open too.

This morning on the way to school there was a traffic accident at the top of our “hill”. When we drove past the scene, I noticed that our Principle Mrs. B was standing next to one of the vehicles talking with the driver inside. I didn’t notice the drive but did pray for all those involved. I later learned that our kindergarten teacher Mrs. M was in the accident. I will have to stop by her classroom and see how she’s doing. Isabel said, Mrs. M had stayed home today, which is totally understandable! Keep her in prayer…

Isabel had 5 “R’s” on her desk this morning when I dropped her off, she placed them all in the bucket to win during A.S.O. She didn’t get picked for a “Shining R” but she did get called to the front (along with the other participants) by Principle Mrs. B for recognition for the Spelling Bee last week.

She was given a participation certificate by the ACSI.
Very cool.

This week’s Bible verse is:

“Be transformed by the renewing of you mind.” Romans 12:2b
She needs to have it memorized and spelled correctly for Friday’s test.

Front: working with holidays.

In light of Isabel’s birthday today, we got a kick out of this school paper below…

Back: when to use “I” and “me“.

Some math work from today.

Isabel also mentioned that they started adding 3 numbers together! Like 0+0+0=? or 3+3+3=?.

Groundhog day crossword. Isabel loves doing these.

Front: color the pictures that rhyme.
Great job on the coloring!

Back: listen for the /ē/ sound and get the sheep to the tree.

Working with this weeks spelling words.

This week’s spelling words are:

me – mean – bean – be – beet – feet – every – about – low – road
– who – door – tight – letter – else – showing

I took cupcakes to share with the class around noon. Teacher Mrs. B says she shares them with the class before they leave for the day. Isabel told me that while no one was looking she ate another cupcake! That’s O.K. you can have 2 cupcakes in class it’s your Birthday!

Can you see the cupcake residue?
Haha! Happy Birthday Isabel!

The birthday girl and me!
