Happy Birthday Gino

Today is Daddy’s birthday!

Mommy worked really hard at keeping everything a secret including his new gift. Since he always tends to find out what his getting.

Mommy made his favorite burrito’s and we had gluten-free cupcakes from our favorite local baker. Everything was yummy!

2013-10-23 022_edited-1

It’s big and heavy.
What could it be?

2013-10-23 023_edited-1

It’s a brewing machine or as Daddy said, “a stink machine”.
I like to think of it as a “less stink machine” since I can’t smell the aroma as much as I can with traditional coffee maker.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Second Grade: Day 36 – Field Trip

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel, it’s library day and it’s also a field trip day!

In library today, Isabel got a Boxcar Children book. She is going to read it to me for her after school reading homework. This week she check-out “The Mystery at the Alamo”. Can’t wait to find out what the mystery is.

Isabel’s new Chapel dress.
She has grown so much since school began she’s grown out of all her dresses!

Today’s Chapel was given by Mrs. D, our librarian. Mrs. D spoke about obedience from Joshua 22:5

“But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that moses the servant of the Lord gave you; to love the Lord you God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” – Joshua 22:5

Mrs. D explained that this message is for all “folks”, which means everyone. She made a clever acrostic to help us “folks” remember…

Follow Him
Obey Him
Love Him
Keep Him close
Serve Him

The field trip was just after noon and I was a driver with 3 other classmates and Isabel. I drove them to another campus in our school district and we watched a skit given by our local fire and rescue department. There were lots of laughs as 3 silly clowns gave tips to all the kids on how to be safe in your home, at the pool and in the car. The skit lasted about an hour and half, I was able to drop the kids off and then pick Isabel up at the end of the day.

Isabel told me today that she doesn’t like to write the letters “Q” and “J”. When I asked her why, she just said she doesn’t like to.

Western Terrestrial Garter

Or also known as the Wandering Garter snake.

I had no idea we had snakes in our area or neighborhood until today!

Isabel and I were driving back home from school when I noticed this reptile crossing the main road to our house. I thought ran it over but after stopping the car and getting out, we realized it was still alive. Luckily, I also able to get a photo with my camera too.

2013-10-23 001_edited-1

It’s a Western Terrestrial Garter snake (which means it’s not poisonous to humans)
and it can get up to 42 inches in length.
This one was a good size.

2013-10-23 002_edited-1I tried getting a picture of it’s bright red tongue but it was to fast.

Isabel wanted to pick it up but I told her I wasn’t sure if it was poisonous to us, so we just observed it and it watched us.

Second Grade: Day 34

Today is Monday and it’s music class with Mr. G.

The whole class is practicing hard for their upcoming Christmas program. Isabel was singing little bits of songs after school. Sounds like it’s going to be a fun program. Can’t wait.

This week is going to be quite busy for us and it’s early dismissal on Friday (for Isabel) as well. The first field trip of the school year is this Wednesday and I will be a driver! I love when I am able to participate with her and her class.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to repentance.”
– 2 Peter 3:9b

This week’s S.a.T. theme is to share a favorite stuffed animal. Since she had just taken the Lula’s (both) 2 weeks before, I told her she had to take something else. Her next favorite stuffed animal is…

2013-10-22 009_edited-1

BIG BEAR (with a Lula shirt on)!
She has had Big Bear since she was 3.

She said that while she had him at her desk several of the girls had walked by her desk just so they could rub his head! They liked BIG BEAR too.

Autumn Leaves

For the past week or so Isabel has been asking us to rake leaves. Normally we don’t have any leaves to rake but since our tree out front has produced enough to actually rake up this year, we let her rake them. We had fun!

2013-10-20 003_edited-1

She’s got a big task ahead but she’s excited!

2013-10-20 005_edited-1

Daddy helped, while she picked up hand fulls to get her pile big!

2013-10-20 013_edited-1

While she was picking up leaves, she found a caterpillar.
It wasn’t moving so I don’t know if it was still alive.

She did several leaps into the pile until it got to scattered and she didn’t want to rake anymore.

Pure joy!

I can…

Second Grade: Day 32

Today is Thursday and it’s P.E.

For P.E. class today they played their human tangle game and “clean the yard”. Isabel loves playing clean the yard!

She didn’t mention anything else about her day other than they played a new game in class for math.

Classwork…

She brought home a lot of work today and finally had math homework after not having any for the past 2 days. We worked on her Bible verse, spelling and did her reading homework too.
