Second Grade: Day 173

Today is Tuesday and it’s A.S.O. and the pen-pal picnic.

Isabel was excited this morning to finally meet her pen-pal, Emily. Emily is an African-American and has black hair with braids. Isabel said she enjoyed spending time with her. They had lunch together and got to play at recess. Isabel said they enjoyed playing on the rings at recess. Emily loved playing on the rings!

When I asked Isabel if she asked her all the questions I had wanted her to, she said she forgot.

Isabel didn’t have anything else to say about her day. She was just excited to meet Emily and have Daddy home.

Second Grade: Day 172

Today is Monday and it’s the last WEEK of school before summer vacation!

There are 7 days of school left but this is our last full week of school. Next Monday is a field day and Tuesday is an Honor’s Chapel with a early dismissal.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:3031

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is to share your summer vacation plans.

This week the class will be learning the capital cursive: review letters.

Spelling words for this week are… there are no more spelling words for the year!

Tomorrow is a special occasion in class. Isabel will be meeting her “pen-pal”, Emily during a special picnic lunch. She’s been talking about this picnic since she first learned of the meeting. I hope they both have a wonderful time together (and maybe keep in touch). I know that might be hard with Emily being on another campus but you never know.

Friday the class is having a “read-in” and celebrating summer birthdays. During the “read-in” Isabel can take several books, a blanket and small pillow to keep her comfortable. She’s looking forward to spending the day doing something that she already loves to do.

Second Grade: Day 171

Today is Friday and there are only 7 days of school left!

When I picked Isabel up after school she was in a good mood. We went and had frozen yogurt together and then went shopping for a birthday gift for a party for Ms. Mila tomorrow. We had a fun afternoon.

She had a good day in school. They worked in pairs using flash cards for math. Her partner was Mr. Blake and he wasn’t interested in practicing math. She got frustrated with him as her partner.

Today was the day to hand in their Northwest Trek Mammal animal report. Isabel had her report completed by Tuesday and was thankful to finally hand it and be over with it. I’m hoping she gets a good grade, she worked so hard on it. She enjoys everything about school but hates writing. So it was a struggle to sit down and get words on the paper.

She didn’t mention anything else about her day other then they also worked on a few division problems as well.

Second Grade: Day 170

Today is Thursday and it’s P.E. with Mrs. S.

Today was also my Preschool promotion day! We had 28 out of 31 kids in attendance. I’m so sad to see these kids go but the majority of them are returning in the fall!

Isabel and her class played dodge ball in the gym with Mrs. S.

Yesterday’s library day was today. It was the last day of library for the school year. While in the library, they talked about the book fair in July and August and they heard the story of “Princess Smartpants”. Isabel said the book was funny and she enjoyed it.

She didn’t have much else to say about her day and she went to piano lessons after school. She’s finished her first lesson book in piano and will be working through book two during the summer.

Second Grade: Day 167

Today is Monday and there are 12 days left of school! Sounds better to Isabel then more than 2 weeks.

She’s ready for school to be over and she’s bored. She says all they do is review and review some more. Hang in there kiddo, it’ll be over before you know it!

This week’s Bible verse is…

“I pray also for those who will believe in Me… that all of them may be one.” – John 17: 20, 21

The Bible lesson this week is to serve others in unity.

S.a.T. this week is to share something you hope to learn in third grade. Isabel hasn’t done S.a.T. for several weeks. She keeps telling me she done with it, she doesn’t like doing it. No one listens to her when she’s at the front of the class. So she’s done, she doesn’t want to do it anymore.

This week the class will be learning the capital cursiveZ”, “V”, “W” and “X“.

This weekend, Isabel worked hard at getting her Northwest Trek mammal animal report completed. It’s due this Friday, June 6, 2014.

She did an awesome job! She told me she’s glad she picked the porcupine because most of the class picked the fox. She also said she’s glad it’s over because she tired of writing about porcupines. We keep telling her she better get used to writing papers because she’s only going to be doing more of them!

The illustrations MUST to be drawn and colored by Isabel. The cover can have photos from the internet.

Second Grade: Day 164

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel and library in class.

Today was Family Chapel. Family Chapel is were students get together with other mixed age/grade students and receive instruction from a sixth grader. For Family Chapel today however, the family groups worked on their banners and shirts for “Field Day” that will be next month.

Isabel got to pick the design for her tie-dye t-shirt but an adult will be doing the actual dying. Isabel’s group is called “Steel Teal”. Their group color is teal.

The banner that they worked on today has all the students names from her group on it and the name of their group, “Steel Teal”.

For library she check-out a G. Stilton book called, “Valentine’s Day Disaster”. We’ll read this together for her homework reading assignment after school.

She didn’t have much else to say about her day at school.

Second Grade: Day 163

Today is Tuesday and it’s music class with Mr. G and A.S.O. (All School Open).

This week’s Bible verse is…

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news.” – Isaiah 52:7a

The Bible lesson this week is to tell others about Jesus.

Isabel couldn’t remember anything about A.S.O.

S.a.T. this week is to share something that is your favorite thing you LEARNED this year in second grade. Isabel said the favorite thing she learned in second grade was learning cursive and multiplications.

Meals that mammals eat.

Her recess times today were playing with Ms. Mila and a few third graders that she’s friends with. Nothing else was said about her day.

This weekend she worked really hard on getting her mammal report finished for next week. She has written several pages and has drawn her first picture. She’ll work on it again this weekend to finish it up for the 6th.
