Roller Action

We let Isabel help me paint the east wall in the living/dining room. After some prep work this morning we were able to get going this afternoon.

Doing the “V” pattern.

For her first time roller painting she did an awesome job!

Getting this wall completed means we can get back to working on the flooring!

We’ll let this dry and then after dinner, Gino can apply the second coat and we’ll call it good.

Complete changes the look of the room.
I’ll have to get some better photos when it’s not so bright out.

This picture the paint looks really dark almost brown but it’s not.

Technical Diffuculties

Due to some technical difficulties with our old server, Gino had to move our family blog to a new server. Thus creating a few technical bumps in the road with updating the blog on my desktop computer.

Don’t worry, hopefully soon we will have the issues worked out and I will be back at. When that happens watch out, because I have a whole month of blogging to add. So check back and be ready!

Until then…

Kitchen Cabinets

Our new kitchen cabinets arrived this morning at 7:30 a.m. The delivery man was kind enough to deliver them into our garage.

The first pallet looks great!
The top box had damage but we opened the box and the item inside was fine.

The second pallet we had to disassemble in order to check off  the delivery list and get the delivery man on his way.
After an hour, the list is checked off and we are good to go!

Acclimate The Flooring

In order to get the new cabinets in the garage, we have to move the flooring.

So Gino figured out how many boxes of flooring we would need in order to do the main areas and then we prepared that many boxes. We left the remaining boxes sealed (we’ll acclimate them later) and moved and stored them in the formal dining room area. The boxes we opened and acclimated, we stacked (according to the manufacturers specifications) in the formal dining room and family room.

The dining room will be used to acclimate one pallet of flooring.

The finished pallet of flooring 9 rows high.

The family room area will acclimate another pallet of flooring.
We planned ahead and cut out the carpet below this area so we aren’t moving wood around before installing.

Beautiful strand bamboo resting 5 (or more) days before installation.
(the board with the blue tape is my gorgeous piece of wood – I told Gino he needs to put it somewhere so it can be seen!)

We have a lot of projects to do before this is actually laid down. Tomorrow the cabinets arrive and then my Father will arrive later in the evening to help us get this project started. Get your work gloves on!

Project: Family Room Lighting

Since the kitchen, dining and family rooms are all in one room it only makes since to add lighting throughout the whole space. Today Gino worked on getting the holes cut for the lighting in the family room. He is also adding surround sound speakers as well.

Three holes begin the project.
It’s like one big giant canvas of nothing.

2015-03-29 010_edited-1

I can picture the lighting.
It’s going to brighten up the place!

2015-03-29 011_edited-1

By early afternoon Gino has all the holes cut for the new lighting.

2015-03-29 014_edited-1

Getting the first speaker hole cut.
It’s a big one.

2015-03-29 017_edited-1

First speaker hole is cut.
Another one will be cut out directly across from it.

2015-03-29 032_edited-1

By early evening the holes for both the lights and speakers are cut out.

Now it’s time for wiring.

Project: Dining Room Light

It’s time for the dining room to have some light.

This room has been in need of light since we purchased the house 8 years ago. We’ve lived with it but now it’s time for an upgrade!

2015-03-27 010_edited-1

2 new recessed lights and a relocation with a new fixture.

The location of the old hanging lamp in the dining room was so far off. The table would’ve been positioned right next to the sliding glass door. Very poor design but it’s fix now! No one will know but us.

2015-03-27 013_edited-1

The hanging light will be replaced with the light from our classroom (formal dining area).

The new hanging light is now centered in the room or where the center should be.

2015-03-27 014_edited-1

Removing the old lamp light box.

A while later, he was back doing more light work.

2015-03-27 018_edited-1

Canister’s are going in and we’ll have 2 new lights soon.
Tomorrow we’ll get the new (old) light hung.

In the other room, Isabel is practicing her piano while the new lights are going in.

Cheese!

Project: Kitchen Lights – We Have Light

Gino got the 4-inch canisters and lights in and now we have light! Thank you for the lights, Gino!

Our kitchen looks bigger and it’s so much brighter. No more dark corners.

2015-03-23 013_edited-1

 Getting wired.

2015-03-23 018_edited-1

The lights are in and it looks awesome!
Don’t mind the mess.

2015-03-23 031_edited-1

Later, I got more photos after he started patching up the old light holes and stuff.

2015-03-23 032_edited-1

Look at that coverage!

2015-03-23 042_edited-1

Looking across the dining room into the kitchen. The area is just awash in light!

Part 1 is completed and and now he’ll finish up wiring and adding the new switch plate. Then it’s onto the next project!
