Learning About Bones

This afternoon Isabel was trying to “teach us” about bones in our body.

She got out her body book and read different “bone” facts from in it and then gave us a “slide show”.

I love love love the drawing that she did for the “slide show”. It’s AWESOME!

She also wanted us to play a game she called… “Pin the skull on the neck!” Ha! Ha! (to hear her say it is hilarious!!) Tomorrow we are going to learn about muscles, maybe we’ll get a picture for that too!

First Grade: Day 9

Monday in class is called “Marvelous Monday” and today was Marvelous for Isabel!

Marvelous Mondays are also All-School Opening.

All-School Opening is an assembly held each Monday for the entire school. The Bible verse for the week is recited together, the school rule for the week is reviewed and discussed, new needed announcements are made as well. Special student awards (called Shining R’s) and recognition takes place at this time as well. The Shining R’s awards are given (usually the teacher) to anyone who show’s Respect, Relationship, or Responsibility to fellow classmates in class or on campus. Last week Isabel got an “R” almost every day, she then placed those “R’s” in a larger container for All-School Open on Monday. Each Monday, Principle Mrs. B draws names from the container and those people win a Shining R! Isabel’s name was drawn for the first time today! After All-School Open, she was able to take her Shining R award to the office to get a special prize from the prize box.

Hurray for Isabel for showing Respect, Relationship, and/or Responsibility to others! Keep it up Kiddo, not just to get a prize in the office but to shine your light for Jesus! So proud of her! (Last year she wasn’t able to participate because she was only 1/2 day, so she has been really excited that she has gotten some and that she actually won a prize!)

She chose an eraser for her prize.
She said the box was filled with bracelets, pencils, and even candy!

Front: phonics work with the letter “Y”.
I love this visual of  how many sounds a “Y” can make!

Back: phonics work with the letter “Y”.
There are 4 sounds a “Y” makes! Awesome.

Front: rhyming words!
I loved doing this when I was in school.

Back: more rhyming words.

Gino and I were surprised when just before school started Isabel said she didn’t know how to write her numbers anymore. So all this practice is great to see!

Word practice.
I love her writing!

Social Studies work on what is a community.

What is a community?
What is a citizen? Who is a citizen?
What is a rule?
What does a vote mean? Who votes?
What is a law?

When asked all the questions Isabel was able to give an answer for each!
This is awesome!
