First Grade: Day 28

Friday in class is called “Fantastic Fridays“.

On Fantastic Fridays, they attend music class with Mr. G, just like on Wednesdays. Like I mentioned on Wednesday, they are practicing for their Christmas program in December.

This weeks Friday was STUFFED with all this weeks past work. They do so much work throughout the week! So I won’t be posting it and I don’t remember doing that much work when I was in first grade!

Today, they had a birthday celebration for Fiona. Fiona brought cupcakes to share and goody bags with small gifts for the class. Like purple plastic teeth, tattoos, erasers, a squishy eyeball, and a ring!

Isabel with her purple teeth and squishy eyeball.

The class also had some special guests; Isabella’s parents taught the class how to make a lizard out of beads. They gave the kids a pattern and some beads and then had them arrange the beads on the pattern. Isabel said she had a lot of fun making hers.

Isabel’s pink lizard hangs on her bulletin board in her room. The “white” beads glow-in-the-dark! She thought this was so COOL!

Front: learning contractions.

Back: What happens next? They eat the pie!
I love this drawing!

Finished up the story of Babel this week.
Genesis 11:1-9

Midterm progress reports were sent home today as well. Isabel is doing a fantastic job in all academic areas; Bible, phonograms, handwriting, spelling, math, and reading.

First Grade: Day 27

Thursday in class is called “Thankful Thursdays“.

Thankful Thursday is also P.E. with Mrs. S and computer lab with Mrs. T.

For P.E. today they played a game with hula hoops and bean bags. They had to “capture” bean bags from the other team. Isabel said she got a lot of bean bags from the other team!

For computer lab, they did AR testing. Isabel said she got all the answers right on her testing.

Finish the question sentences.

This worksheet reminded me of the book “The Little Red Hen”.

Practice writing for the Bible verse this week.

<>< o <>< o <>< o <>< o <>< o <><

Big smiles while we do some homework.
I love that little face!

Prims: Apron

On Wednesday nights, Isabel heads to Prims Discovery Girls Club. Which is a club (they have boys clubs too) through the church at school.

During club time the girls discuss the topic for the week, go over the Bible verse, have a snack, play games, and just have fun with other girls their age. Since Isabel was in the club last year, she knows a few of the girls already, however this year  one of the girls from her school class is in the club too!

The Bible verse for girls club is…“I was hungry and you gave me something to drink, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in” Matthew 25:35

These next 5 weeks (for October) the club will be learning about cooking. This week they answered the question, “what are a person’s basic needs?“.

This week they also got apron too…

Isabel got to pick out the purple ribbon on her apron.

A close-up of her apron which ties in the back.
So cute!

First Grade: Day 26

Today is Wonderful Wednesday! Today is music class with Mr. G.

In music class they have begun to practice for their Christmas program in December. I got to hear one of the songs (very cute) and it sounds like Jingle Bells. Can’t wait to hear and see the whole program when they bring it all together!

The class is finishing up their M.A.P. testing this week. M.A.P. testing is a tool Teacher Mrs. B will use to see where Isabel is academically. Where she is at. Where she needs help. The school does the testing 2 or 3 times a year, to see where the students are.

Today the class did another science experiment.
The page above explains what they did together.

Science results of the experiment for solid, liquid and gas.

Learning how to structure sentences.
Capital at the begin with punctuation at the end.

More writing sentence practice.
This one she wrote her first letter backward and added an “s” to the end word.

Great job on everything!

First Grade: Day 24

Monday in class is called “Marvelous Monday”!

Marvelous Mondays are also All-School Open, the school assembly that is held first thing each Monday of the week. This morning Isabel had 6 R’s on her desk!! She was super excited about that and wanted to get them to the office quick for All-School open.

We also noticed she had 3 papers on the bulletin board; a spelling test, a math sheet, and a writing sheet. We’ll probably see those in her Friday Folder for the week.

This morning was a long All-School Open with a visit from the high school football team and cheerleaders. The football team and cheerleaders opened the school year for the “Fuel up to Play 60” program. A program used to encourage kids to make healthy choices at school and in life and to be active for 60 minutes every day! They had the program last year as well, but Isabel wasn’t as involved with only being half day.

Front: phonics work.

Back: word match.

Braiding

Isabel has been wanting to know how to braid hair for a while now and today I decided it was a great time to learn!

We tied 3 pipe cleaners together and sat on the sofa for about 15 min. or so just going over the leap-frog concept of braiding. She tried it twice and then declared she didn’t want to do it anymore because she’d never get it! After a bit of encouragement from Gino and I, she surprised herself when she got it…

Her first 2 braids! She did a great job! With practice she’ll get better.
She worked with the pipe cleaners for awhile and then took them apart to make a crown for Daisy.

Looking Back

What a week!…

  1. First with my mother-in-laws major surgery and now the waiting to see what her diagnosis is. (She still can not see properly) Please keep her (us) in prayer…
  2. Second the busy work week I had at school. The kids seemed to be flying by the seat of their pants! Craziness everywhere! In the moments I’m with them, am I really getting through…
  3. Third the passing of my Uncle, who had just recently celebrated 48 years of marriage to my Auntie last month. The last time I saw him I was Isabel’s age, but he was still a great husband, father, brother, son, and friend. He will be missed dearly.

Even when my life is in chaos; my calender devotional says it all…

“The Lord doesn’t always remove the sources of stress in our lives…but He’s always there and cares for us. We can feel His arms around us on the darkest night.”
– FOTF: Loving My Wife Back to Health

“He takes care of his people like a shepherd. He gathers them like lambs in his arms and carries them close to him.” Isaiah 40:11

Even in all this stress, sadness, worry, and grief, I can feel His arms around me, comforting me, carrying me. He’s there. Just within my reach…

I’m a bit behind on posting things and probably won’t get around to doing it all. I just want to keep moving forward. The next few days, I just want to relax and reflect…

First Grade: Day 23

Today is Friday!

Friday in class is called “Fantastic Fridays“.

On Fantastic Fridays, they attend music class with Mr. G, just like on Wednesdays. My class, the 3 year olds,  also had music with Mr. G today. They were captivated by him and his guitar!

Today is also the Friday Folder, which is folder filled with all of the weeks graded work. Isabel’s was stuffed this week! They really do a lot of work each week!

This is the clown I mentioned before that were hanging the classroom for a while, she got to bring it home.
I love that her clown is the only one with it’s feet turned inward!

Who can make a rainbow?
There is a little song, that she sings with this as well.

There is a new bulletin board in class. It’s a place where Teacher Mrs. B puts up students work that is fantastic.

Math packet that was on the board.

Her number writing has improved so much since school began.
She really focuses on doing her work well.

Back of math packet.
She did each page correct and complete.

This is part of her math homework that she does every day after school. She completes one side at school and then the other side is homework at home. The next day she hands it in and then we wait until Friday to see how she did. This week she got all the answers right. (I later learned that 1 of the papers from the week was on the bulletin board in class – probably get it next Friday.)

There is more homework in the Friday Folder but I’m not going to post it all. She did a great job this week on all her work.
