The Hunt

The hunt for the right Christmas tree began after school today. We picked up Isabel, stopped and got some lunch before heading to our local Christmas tree farm.

The Christmas Tree Farm barn.

The Farm has 6 different species of Christmas trees available: Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, Grand Fir, Turkish Fir, Noble Fir and Norway Spruce. The first year, we didn’t get a tree but have gotten our Christmas tree from here for the past 2 years! Last year we got a Douglas Fir, very soft and full. This year, we decided to get something different. After speaking with the owner, we decided on getting a Grand Fir, which is the most fragrant of trees!

Which way should we go??? Norway this way. Fraser over there. Douglas that way. Norway back there. We got to find those Grand Firs!

What a gorgeous day to go hunting!

Heading back to see the Fraser firs. They are an O.K. looking tree, stiff branches for holding those heavy ornaments but not very smelly…

What a beauty! It would work… seriously!
It would just have to sit in the middle of the front room and it would take up the whole room!

Isabel found a “cross” laying on the ground.

O.K. this is more our size. This one looks good… or not.

We headed clear over to the other side of the lot (all those trees begin to look the same!) before stopping at the bathrooms and coming back to this first area again. Gino spotted a perfect tree but got there to late; another family was cutting it down! So we keep hunting…

We found it!

Getting down to work.

Trying to lift our tree.

Can you drag it back for us? Use some muscle!

Our fresh kill. Our hunt this year was a 7 1/2 ft. Grand Fir. It’s a beauty!

Getting a good shake and getting tips on how to make the most of our fragrant catch (pop the pimples!).

After payment and hauling it to the truck, we stopped by the beverage table in the barn for some delicious hot apple cider to warm us up! We enjoy this place and what a great way to build memories during this time of year! Let the decorating begin….

Kindergarten: Day 59

Today was just more practice for the program next week.

They did get back to the classroom for snack and free-choice Friday! The whole school was on 1/2 day for a teacher’s work day.

The opening activity was a maze. Isabel did a great job coloring her “Cc” for cake maze.

Phonics work with the letter “Ff“.

Kindergarten: Day 57

Isabel was excited to show everyone at school her missing tooth. We stopped by and showed Mrs. W, who was excited to see that she had lost it so quickly. When we arrived at the classroom the first person she showed was Mrs. Kelso who just happened to be standing at the door when we arrived!

After school, Isabel told me she was a great “pusher” on the playground. She said that she pushed several of her friends on the swings today and she did a great job. Also during recess, she said she was looking for white rocks. She wants to start a white rock collection. Oh boy, please not another collection…

The opening activity was a maze again but this one was for “Ff“. “Ff” is for flower.

I thought this was interesting… Isabel and Lliam were talking about sharks. Lliam was telling Isabel that he didn’t know how to draw a shark, that it was to hard to do. So Isabel showed Lliam how to draw a shark (easy) and a sword fish and for fun a bear face. When she told me about this I thought it was great that she was helping her classmate draw something that to Isabel was so easy. I love it!

This was a lesson with remembering. They had two stories earlier in the year about a wort hog and one with elephants. Each character made something, either a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or muffins. So Isabel had to recall the story and group all the items used to get the final product.

Back: phonics work with letters “Dd” and “Nn“.

Math work with pennies, counting and matching.

Back: practice with the number “7” and she had to draw “7” cookies.

More math work. Working with patterns.

Back: More “7” practice and working with pennies.
Isabel said she used several colors to get the exact color of the pennies.

Today was Show and Tell for the boys. Their letter was “Ff“. Isabel said she didn’t get to see all that was brought but she got to see what Nevan brought and he brought a fish named “Fishy Fish”, who was actually Nemo from the movie “Finding Nemo”.

UPDATE (12-01)! I asked Mrs. Kelso if it was alright to take a picture with the tooth chart before we left and she said go ahead. 5 classmates, including Isabel lost their teeth during the month of November. Mrs. Kelso told me that they did a count the other day and there are 15 kids with loose teeth in class. So December is going to be a very busy month for the tooth fairy!

This week’s Bible verses:

“Ll” – “Look unto Me and be ye saved.” Isaiah 45:22

“Kk” – “Keep thy tongue from evil.” Psalm 34:13

Jj” – “Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

Missing Something

Isabel lost her 2nd tooth today! It went so quickly that she didn’t get to name it this time! She had been wiggling it quite aggressively after school that during lunch it popped out.

All she wants for Christmas!

Both teeth are coming in!
(Sorry for the dirty mouth we just finished lunch and I didn’t think to have her brush.)

Now she gets to write her name on the tooth at school! She’s excited for that!
(I’ll have to get a photo)

…also something I found interesting while I was doing this blog. If you notice in the top picture, Isabel’s top teeth are separated, there is clearly a gap! She never had a gap! If you click on the link and go back to October and her first tooth coming out, her top teeth are together and there is no gap! Is her jaw growing? Is it getting ready for the two front teeth? That is so fascinating, I have to keep my eye on that one… amazing!

Kindergarten: Day 56

This morning we awoke to a thick blanket of fog outside. It was thicker in our neighborhood but as I got down to the main road to school it lifted a bit to see better on our way to school.

After arriving at school, we bumped into Mrs. W on our way to the classroom this. Since we haven’t seen her in awhile, Isabel was excited to show her, her new loose tooth. We stood and talked for a bit before saying goodbye and heading off to class.

Today was Chapel. Isabel said that Mrs. Standfield gave the message today. Except she couldn’t remember what it was about.

Today was music class, they met again today to practice for their Christmas program coming up next week! Isabel has picked up her line very well. We practice during meal times at the table and I try to remember to give the line before hers so she remembers when it’s her time to say her line.

Opening activity was “Gg” practice.
She started out good but they eventually turned into 6’s. We need to work on that.

Math working was counting with pennies!

Back: practice with the number “7“.

During class time Isabel said they made a card (cards) for Mrs. Boettcher and her family. I thought that was a great idea! Isabel said she wanted to make a card too. So after lunch she made several to take to school tomorrow.

Kindergarten: Day 55

It was only 34° when we headed out the door this morning. It was cold but the sky was clear except a few clouds and the sun was shining! It’s a great day when the sunlight hits your skin!

When we arrived at the classroom no one was at the door to greet us, which was a bit odd. Since Mrs. Boettcher is always standing there waiting to greet everyone coming through. Not today though…I told Isabel to give me a kiss and let her go in without me, thinking that class might have started early, which it hadn’t. I’ll tell you more about that later…

After class, Isabel said they had All-School Opening. With the whole school in attendance, they practiced their Christmas program, which is coming up next week!

They also had an earthquake drill and a fire drill; which they were doing when I arrived back at school to pick her up. She got to see Mrs. W during the drill but only said “hi” since she had to stay in line and keep quite.

The opening activity was a maze through a goldfish. I love the little bit of coloring she did on the fin. She’s starting to blend colors and use more of them when she does color. It’s great!

She brought home this thankfulness book today. She said that they had been working on it for several days last week.

Page 1: Thankful for family.
I love that she included Daisy in the drawing!

Page 2: Thankful for friends
I believe this is Taylor from her class.

Page 3: Thankful for Jesus
Precious! Love it!!

Page 4: Thankful for Thanksgiving
Gobble Gobble!

Page 5: Thankful for food
I like that she made the bowl so big and can only see a bit of food.
Wonder what else is hiding in that bowl??

On the way home, she told me about Mrs. Boettcher. Who will be out of school the rest of the week because her father “went to heaven” Isabel said, over the holiday break. Mrs. Kelso will be filling in for Mrs. Boettcher in her absence. So please keep the family in prayer during this very difficult time.
