Kindergarten: Day 106

Today was Free Choice Friday!

Isabel said she played with the animals, not the hard ones but the soft stuffed ones. She played with Madeline and Lincoln. She also told me that she likes to play with Lincoln because he’s nice to her and he’s her boy-friend.

She also got 2 stickers for helping out in class. One was for cleaning up after play time and the other was for saying the Bible verse for the week when she was asked to do so. Great job!

The Bible story today was a review of Moses and the 10 plagues of Egypt found in Exodus.

The opening activity was a ocean maze with an Octopus.

Math today was dot-to-dot counting by 10’s.

Back: dime counting practice.

I forgot to take a picture of her reading homework book. It was Family Fun at the Farm book 4. We read each book through twice (she reads aloud to Gino and I) before taking it back to class for another one. After she’s returned it to class, she sits down with either Mrs. Kelso or Mrs. Boettcher. It’s been great to see her move through the books. So far, she hasn’t had any difficulty reading them.

Kindergarten: Day 105

Today is Thursday! It’s time for P.E.! Isabel told me she doesn’t really like P.E. because all they do is run. I had to chuckle at that because, she’s got a big surprise ahead! She better get used to running…

Today for P.E. they played “alphabet soup”. The 2 kindergarten classes broke up into mixed groups and each group were given letters to form with their bodies. Each group had to work as a team in order to get the letters formed correctly. Isabel’s group had the letters: “Tt“, “Ss“, “Xx“, “Aa“, and “Qq“. She liked playing alphabet soup and even got laid on while they were making one of the letters!

They also went to music class today with Mrs. Seal. Isabel said that the class was doing so well today that Mrs. Seal moved them up from a 6 to a 7. I’m not sure what that exactly means and Isabel said they would get a prize next time. So I guess that’s a good thing to be a 7!

Number writing. She did a great job with this today, no numbers writing backward!
We have been working on this at home though.
(The scribble along the bottom, is a word search. Can you find the hidden word?)

Back: number practice and counting.

Writing practice with the capital letter “Jj“.
Jack and Jill went to Jay’s…

Back: writing practice with lowercase “Jj“.
Jack and Jill went to Jay’s for jam from a jar and juice.

Today’s borrowed book is a Christopher Churchmouse Classic: Saved by the Bell by Barbara Davoll. We just love these little books, such wonderful lessons to learn!

Christopher becomes friends with his enemy, the cat.
“A gift given in secret pacifies anger.” Proverbs 21:14

Kindergarten: Day 104

Today is Wednesday and that means show and tell! Today was the girls turn and they were asked to bring something that begins with a vowel. Next week it’s the boys turn to bring something that begins with a vowel.

Isabel took Ella the Elephant from her Noah’s ark.

Marianna brought a butterfly umbrella. Isabel really liked it.
Madeline brought a  unicorn stuffed animal.
Emma brought a letter “Ee” shaped pillow.
That’s all she could remember (2 girls didn’t bring anything)… the following day Audrey brought a ukulele that she got in Hawaii while visiting last week.

Isabel also mentioned that she had been the helper for the morning pledges. She got to hold the Bible for the Bible pledge. She said she likes doing that pledge best because she knows it better then the other pledges for the American Flag and Christian Flag.

Consonant and vowel sounds.

Back: “-ap” blending sounds.

Writing practice with the capital letter “Ff“.

Back: writing with the lowercase “Ff“.

For recess Isabel said they went outside to play today. She said she made a bakery with larger rocks and she sold all the bread she made. She said the next time she’s outside at recess she’ll have a bakery again but she’ll sell cakes instead!

Kindergarten: Day 103

Today is Tuesday, that means Chapel, and I forgot to dress Isabel for the occasion! Oops! Chapel was led by the principle today. She had volunteers act as superhero’s to explain character traits in Colossians 3:12-14. “Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience… and over all these virtues put on love.

Isabel said they had recess today but it was very short . She said she didn’t get to play because she was trying to get people to play with her and by that time it was time to go.

Not much was said about today. She did mention that someone was sent to the principles office for disciplinary action. YIKES!

Letter “Ee” writing practice.

Back: Ella the Elephant visits Dr. Eric for an Eye Exam.
Mr. Elk gets an Eye Exam too.

Phonics work with the letter “Ww“.

Back: phonics work with the letter “Ww“.

-am” word writing.

Back: “-at” word writing.

Isabel’s reading book that she brought home…. Mr. Faksimily and the TIGER.

Mr. Faksimily heads into the wild jungle with only a handkerchief, an umbrella, and his camera! He ends up getting what he wanted only using his umbrella (and his camera of course!) to get it! Isabel and I were laughing throughout this great book.
New words Isabel learned: ferocious and rampageous.

Isabel got to bring home her penguin paper sack. It was on the bulletin board last month. She hasn’t been able to bring home her snowman yet, they are still hanging in the classroom.

Happy Birthday Daisy

Today is Daisy’s 9th birthday!

To honor the occasion, I made her a whole wheat carrot/peanut butter cake with peanut butter frosting. I found the recipe online and made it earlier in the day so it had time to cool. I think as soon as I started getting the ingredients together, Daisy knew that I was doing something for her. She sat right behind me the whole time! I even let her lick the mixing beaters.

The birthday girl and Isabel, holding the cake that I made for Daisy.

We sang “Happy Birthday” but she wasn’t the least bit interested…
she wanted that cake!
We let her lick some of the “icing” before cutting off a slice for her to eat before her dinner. She loved it! Her little tail was just wiggling.

Happy 9th Birthday, Daisy!

Kindergarten: Day 102

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

Today is the 100th day celebration!
I know Isabel (the whole class for that matter) has been so excited to celebrate this milestone of 100 and all it’s things!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

This morning as we headed into the classroom, Isabel was the first to step through the door and she immediately got excited about what was ahead. The east wall bulletin board was just beginning to be decorated with the bags of 100 items for those who had turned there baggies in earlier. I will have to get a picture of that for sure!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

The opening activity was a dot-to-dot to 100!
Isabel did such an amazing job, she really took her time counting all the numbers!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

Isabel’s 100 items were… pom-pom’s!

Mrs. Boettcher (Thank you for the above photo!) had the kids count out the items into groups of 10 and then to 100.

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

After counting out there items they were allowed to walk around the room and see the 100 items that others had brought (if they weren’t up on the board yet).

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

Writing/counting to 100!
Mrs. Boettcher told me that Isabel took her time working on this, she actually didn’t get it finished at school. So we had her do it at home. Beautiful writing!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

They made 100 mini spectacles!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

New Job Orientation

Today was my new job orientation. It was scheduled for 3 hours but we actually got all the areas covered early.

My official job title is Substitute Teacher.

I am on a 90-days probation. The school needs to get a “feel” of my working abilities and I need to get a “feel” of where I fit at the school. I will be in the classroom with a lead teacher. There is plenty of work already, so I look forward to actually getting into the classroom with the kids. I will be working with 3 and 4 year-old in the pre-school program.
