School News: Elements Discovery

Today I was able to see get a close view of the special helpers show and tell and even got to ask her a few questions before she left for home. Isabel also showed me several new items in the classroom at the science table. There was a large (tall) giraffe and large brown bear. Along with 3 new elements; green sand, grass, and water, to discover in plastic trays. This is a very popular hang out before and after class. The kids are always so eager to see and do what the new items are.

Todays Bible story was from Jonah 1:1-17 …

and was the story of Jonah.

Isabel said they got to play in both the playground and the courtyard. When I asked her who she played with, she said Olivia and several others, were playing in the playhouse. In the courtyard, they were just running around.

The special helper today was Payton. For show and tell, Payton brought a brown teddy bear dressed up like a lady bug. Payton got her bear at Build-a-Bear. For snack, Payton brought to share rectangle shaped cakes with striped frosting and water.

School News: Nature Walk

Today when I picked Isabel up from school, we sat down on the quiet time rug and she read me a story, Little Quack’s Opposites by Lauren Thompson, a story about 2 ducks, Quack and Puddles. It was a great fun book (the illustrations were fun) and she did a great job reading it to me, even Lilliana started to listen too!

Today’s Bible story was about the tiny seed grows into a tree. I am thinking she heard the story of the mustard seed found in Matthew 13:31-34.

Planted marigolds.

The class headed outside today to do a nature walk. Isabel said she found a pine cone, 2 leaves, a stick, and a bud (it was either opening or closing she said). The class then took some of the many things they found on their walk and brought them to the science table inside the classroom. I would have gotten a picture but Isabel was telling me this as we were getting into the car.

Mrs. W read the story Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman. Isabel told me it was the same book that she has! She likes the book because in the end all the dogs go to a big party on top of a huge tree! What fun!

The special helper today was Eden. For show and tell Eden brought a purple hippo pillow pet. For snack, Eden brought to share pretzels, Cars fruit snacks and juice. Isabel said that while they were eating they played a game to see if anyone could name the fruit snack cars.

School News: Letter X

Last week I had to ask Mrs. W and Mrs. Standfield if we had missed the letter “X” and come to find out we were not the only ones. Somehow Mrs. W had completely skipped over the letter “X“! She told me that the kids were telling her that they had skipped the letter “X“. She had told them that they must of missed school that day but by the time the third kid had said something to her, she realized that it was her that had skipped that day! So today they went back and did the “X“.

The letter “X” is for X-ray.

Today they finished reading the Bible story about Joshua in the book of Genesis and they also went to Chapel too! When I asked Isabel about Chapel she said she didn’t want to tell me, which I thought was very odd. When I pressed her further for information about it, she said that they had a guest speaker and it was a man. When I asked her what he talked about, she said that he had taken his shoes off and made people smell his shoes and then he sprayed the shoes with air freshener to make them smell good. She said she didn’t like it and thought it was, “yucky – gross” to smell someones shoes. When I tried to get her to explain it all she said she couldn’t remember.

The class got to play in the playground today. When I asked her who she had played with she said Emily, Eden, and Payton.

The special helper today was Addie but she was not there. So there was no show and tell today and Isabel was sad about that. For snack, they dipped into the “stock pile” of snacks! Isabel said she had 1 Oreo, teddy graham crackers, and fruit snacks. When she was done with the fruit snacks she had asked for more and she got more! When I told her that sounded like a lot of food, she said, “No, can we eat. I’m hungry!”

Teddy Bear Picnic

For lunch today, Isabel and I headed over to the school for the teddy bear picnic for those who attend the Early Learning Classes. The gathering was a good size but not as large as last years picnic or so I heard.

Mrs. W was there when we arrived and stayed for awhile (before heading to her afternoon class) snapping pictures of all her students that attended. From Isabel’s 4’s AM Class their were 6 students including Isabel. Enjoy!

While I got the lunches ready; I had Isabel decorate the lunch bags for us. This is Isabel’s bag, it has teddy bears, a horse, hearts, stickers, and balloons on it.

This is Mommy’s bag, it has teddy bears, a flower, and stickers. She used stencils to get the teddy bear shape and the horse shape as well.

Before we headed out the door for the teddy bear picnic… Daisy had to get in the photo too even though she didn’t go to the picnic.

Just after we arrived Mrs. W came over to our blanket and took a few photos.

After our lunch we headed over to the “big kid” playground, where Isabel will spend her time next year during recess.

After playing at the playground we headed back to the blanket for pudding and then it was time to go. We had fun! It was a bit cool with the overcast sky but at least it didn’t rain!

School News: Tissue Paper Flower

Isabel didn’t have a lot to say about school when I picked her up today.

They made tissue paper flowers again this week. Today’s flower was a dark blue.

The Bible story today was about Joshua from Genesis 37:1-4. Isabel said they didn’t finish the story today but were going to finish it on Wednesday. Later during dinner we talked more about Joshua and his family before he became a slave in Egypt.

They also read a story about a boy who wanted to make his mother a very special Mother’s day breakfast and while he was getting the eggs he dropped the whole carton on the floor. Isabel said she liked the book but forgot the name.

The special helper today was Zackary. For show and tell Zackary brought a monster truck. For snack he brought to share pretzels and juice.

School News: Ran Out Of Time

Today when I arrived back at the classroom to pick up Isabel, she acted like she wasn’t pleased to see me… and she wasn’t. She had a rough morning and was not happy about the day ending at school.

My understanding is that the class was given on opportunity to make necklaces for their mothers (Mother’s day gift) and while they were making the necklaces Isabel had to go to the bathroom. When she got back to the classroom from going to the bathroom, free play had already begun and Isabel needed to finish her necklace. So she finished it and that cut into her free play time and she wasn’t allowed to join the others for the same amount of time as what they had. She was upset because she didn’t get to play with her friends and wanted the chance to play all day with them at school for the rest of the day!

After talking with her and getting her back into a slightly better mood, she then popped up and said she had to show me something! She then took me over to the play-kitchen area and showed me a very pretty wooden baby cradle that looks as though someone made for the class and the baby dolls. She seemed to be in a better mood after showing me this and then proceeded to “hide” the necklace she made for me. After rounding up all her paperwork, giving hugs to Mrs. W, we finally left the classroom after everyone else had left for home.

The May bulletin board with the flowers from April.
Can you find Isabel’s flower? I’ll give you a hint… it’s under Jesus’ feet.

The academics board for May. Isabel really likes this one, she says it’s very colorful and pretty. May is a review of all the numbers, colors, shapes, and letters that they have learned over the entire school year.

When I asked her what the Bible story was about she said it was about a man and a lady going to see Jesus. There were people taking Jesus somewhere, she couldn’t remember, and the man and the lady got to see Jesus.  She asked me if I had heard that Bible story before and I told her I’ve heard a lot of Bible stories about Jesus but that one sounded new.

Today they got an extra long recess time outside. The class got to play in both the courtyard and the the playground. When I asked her who she played with she said she played with everyone for a little bit.

With my Mother’s Day thumb-print flower.

“This little flower is special, you see,
Because it was made from a part of me.
My painted thumb made each flower part
To show I love you with all my heart!”
Happy Mother’s Day!

The special helper today was Emily. For show and tell Emily brought 2 small stuffed dogs and a large stuffed reindeer. The reindeer had a light-up nose and sang. For snack Emily brought to share, Spider-man® and Tinker-bell® fruit snacks and juice. The Tinker-bell® fruit snacks had birds and acorns on them.

School News: A Very Special Mother

What a BEAUTIFUL day out! Thank you, God for this great day! I’m loving it…

Have to tell a quick story… yesterday Gino, Isabel and I were on our way to the bank around 9 a.m.. When out out the main road leading to our house, I spotted sitting in a large dead tree; a very large BALD EAGLE! It was so awesome, what a fantastic way to start the day! Unfortunately I didn’t have a camera to take any pictures!

Today’s Bible story was from Genesis 21:1-5 and was the story of Sarah the mother of Isaac.

The class made a sort of Mother’s Day cards with this verse on the outside…

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small,
And always leave fingerprints,
On the furniture and walls.
But every day I’m growing-
I’ll be grown some day,
and all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away.
So here’s a little handprint
Just so you can recall,
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

…talk about make your Mommy cry! Can she stay little a little longer?!?

On the inside of the card is a blue handprint…
with what appears to be a heart in the middle!

When I walked into class to pick her up, all the kids were holding these pictures for their mothers. Isabel and I with our cup of tea. “A cup of tea for Mommy and Me.”  – with an actual tea bag tucked inside!

The special helper today was Mila. For show and tell Mila brought a brown stuffed dog. Whose name was Fluffy. For snack Mila brought to share, a sticky thing (not sure what this was!), fishy crackers, and juice.

School News: Mothers Day Gift

I was wishing for a sunny day just as gorgeous as yesterday but awoke to heavy clouds and rain… again.

Isabel was captivated by the new bulletin board for the month of May (will get a photo later in the month). I have to admit it’s very colorful! The class will be going over all the letters in the alphabet and all the numbers up to 20. They will be going over all the colors and shapes they have learned throughout the year as well.

The Bible theme for this month is “truthfulness” and the Bible verse is “I have chosen the way of truth.” Psalm 119:30. The Bible concept for the month is “I can ask Jesus to help me tell the truth.” Very good stuff for the end of the year!

Lots of events are planned for this month as well… next week is a Teddy Bear picnic with all the other pre-school classes attending as well. Isabel said she didn’t know what a teddy bear picnic was and I told her she has to attend to find out! Also this month is Isabel’s last special helper day, it will be on the 27th. I have signed up both Gino and I to be in attendance for the helpers that day in class. Also, there will be a Spring Program as well. It will be on on the night of the 26th. So I will be sure to have my camera charged and ready to go for all these special events!

The Bible story today was about John. When I asked Isabel her if it was about John the Baptist, she said, “No, it was about the other John, Jesus’ friend.” So the story must have been about Jesus gathering is disciples, not really sure. She didn’t give me anymore information and couldn’t quite remember.

In honor of May day and staff appreciation week at school.

Isabel said the Mrs. W had all the children go to the preschool office to give Heidi (office admin) yellow flowers. Isabel said they hid and when Heidi returned she was surprised to see flowers at her desk from all the kids! I told Isabel that was a great surprise for Heidi and it probably made her feel very special to get flowers from the kids. Isabel thought so too.

The special helper today was Ezzra. For show and tell Ezzra brought a cute lamb and everyone got to pet it. For snack, Ezzra brought to share carrot sticks and juice.

My Mother’s day gift from Isabel… but I can’t open until then!
