Project: table part III

Gino’s been working on the table these past few days. Here is an update for the work he’s done so far. Enjoy!

This is the table support and drawer without the tabletop.
It’s all tacked together for now but Gino will take it apart to sand it.

Project: table

Gino started working on Isabel’s Christmas present last night after work and unlike the crib that he made for her, I wanted to make sure I documented the build for this project. Enjoy!

An oak panel cut in two and then will be joined (see below) to form the table top.

Then tonight he headed out to the garage to work on it again…

A arc was put on both ends with a router to give it a less square look.

A sample of what the height and look of the legs will be.
The finished height will be: 21 inches.

New Lawn

Yesterday, we awoke early and headed out the door to get the sod picked up just after 9 a.m., we had rented a U-haul trailer which made for an easier hauling/unloading. Enjoy!

600 square feet of fresh cut sod; cut from the “farm” @ 3 a.m.!

dsc_0360_edited-1

We laid the first piece down at around 11:30 a.m. after Gino treated the dirt with some lime. After getting a good flow going we moved along rather quickly….

Isabel doing her part with helping lay the sod down. We let her walk on the seams to get them “meshed” together. She thought this was fun!

Looking south off the patio. We finished up around 1:45 p.m. and needed to clean out the U-haul and get it back before 3 p.m.

Time for a “Reckless Rainbow” Popsicle…and then a bath!!!!

Curb Appeal

Yesterday, we had the same guys that did the work on the patio come back and do some curbing in the front and backyard (before the sod is placed down (Tomorrow!!!)).

dsc_0312_edited-1

Backyard: the curb coloring is a brown color with black as a crack filler and is the same texture as the boarder on the patio. I took these shots early in the day before the sealant was applied, so it’s still a bit “wet”.

dsc_0316_edited-1

The curbing wraps around from the “new” fence to the patio; which is about 60 linear feet. All the area between the fence and the curbing will be for plants/shrubs. The area between the curbing and the paver pathway will all be sod!

dsc_0320_edited-1

Front yard: the curbing goes from the driveway over to the north sidewalk;
and is about 40 linear feet.

Later in the evening I got a close-up of the curbing.
Same color and texture in front and backyard.

Last Post

In the corner area of the yard were the three waste containers will be, we decided to put up a fence so you wouldn’t have to see them when your enjoying the backyard. So today, Gino worked on getting the post hole dug and the post cemented into the ground as well.

dsc_0318_edited-1

This post hole was by far the easiest hole to dig for the entire fence!
He’ll get this done and leave it to set overnight and then tomorrow he’ll finish up.

dsc_0321_edited-1

Bucket head; this reminds me so much of my nephew Bryson…

dsc_0322_edited-1

Monday: Gino finished up this little bit of fencing; all that needs to be done is to splash it with some stain.

Another Day of Dirt

I didn’t get outside earlier to take some photos because Isabel and I had to run and do a grocery store run. By the time we got back home, Gino had moved a lot of dirt on his own!

dsc_0210_edited-1

Looking southwest; have almost made it to the fence…

dsc_0215_edited-1

But still a lot more to do!
The material on the ground (far right) is to keep the top soil from clogging the French drain that we had installed a few weeks ago.

dsc_0255_edited-1

In the heat of the day, we take a break to get cool and wet our whistles.

dsc_0305_edited-1

Drinking the last drops of water.

dsc_0267_edited-1

Something we haven’t ever seen in Daisy’s 6 years…her laying in the dirt!
Trying to get the best heat…this dog is always cold!

dsc_0260_edited-1

We are finished! The area not covered with top soil, we are going to leave for something else like cement, larger pavers, bark, or gravel; we just haven’t decided yet.
That area will be for our 3 waste bins; garbage, recycle, and yard waste.

dsc_0261_edited-1

Enjoying another break in the shade.

dsc_0262_edited-1

Now all that’s left is some sod and we have ourselves a back yard! Woohoo!

Good Dirt

To get the yard even more ready for sod, we brought in a better grade of top soil then what we had delivered last year. This stuff is high quality dirt! It’s a 3-way mix of manure, compost, and screened soil.

dsc_0197_edited-1

8 cubic yards of top soil.
Isabel likes to climb the mound on but don’t tell her what’s in there…she won’t touch it!

Looking southeast, we work until 7 p.m. and then call it a day.
