Fuzzyphobia

Fuzzyphobia: is the fear of lint (or in our house we like to call them fuzzy’s).

The story begins last winter when I purchased a pair of black sweat pants. After washing the pants for the first time, I wore them. That first day that I wore them, the floor was covered with fuzzy’s all over the house. In the hall. On the stairs. In the bedroom. In the bathroom. In the den. In the living room. And in the kitchen. Anywhere I had gone that day the fuzzy’s were found scattered all along the floor. Gino had stayed home from work and as we were preparing lunch that day, Isabel was commenting on all the fuzzy’s all over the ground.

So as Isabel bend’s down to get a closer look of a rather large fuzzy; at the exact same moment the furnace kicked on and the air caused the fuzzy to dance crazily across the floor. Isabel jumped back with eyes as big as saucers, terrified out of her whits!

From that moment (over a year), she has been terrified of fuzzy’s. Wouldn’t go near them until they are removed from her path. Forget about touching them…she would scream, cry, and run away. Something had to be done…you can’t have fuzzyphobia forever, their everywhere, even in your clothes!

So last weekend, Isabel was laying on our bed in our bedroom and somehow the subject got around to fuzzy’s. Gino found some fuzzy’s and told Isabel that it was a nice little “bug” and it needed some love. He found a few more and began to pile them on the bed. At first she wouldn’t have anything to do with it. Then after about 5 minutes, Gino talked her into giving it a “kiss” and a “hug”. Another 15 minutes later, she was holding the fuzzy on her leg (not in her hand)! Another 15 minutes later and she was holding it in her hand!

Now she likes fuzzy’s and when she spots one she bends down and says, “Can touch it? Can I touch it? Mommy, I can touch it! It’s a nice fuzzy!”

No more fuzzyphobia in our house!

What Equals 100%? What does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been in situations where someone wants you to GIVE OVER 100%. How about ACHIEVING 101%? What equals 100% in life?

Here’s a little mathematical formula that might help answer these questions:

Conversation With Isabel

Tonight as we headed out the door to make a run to Lowe’s to look at Christmas decor. Gino decided to drive around the corner to the mail box to get the mail. After checking the mail, Gino headed around the back of our street and then back down our block. As we are driving down our street, Isabel is sitting in her seat pointing out things as we pass…

“Look Mommy, a scarecrow. Look Mommy.” she says
“You saw a scarecrow!” I say, seeing the scarecrow
A little further down the street we pass our house and Isabel says…
“That like our house.” she says, pointing to our house.
“That is our house, silly” We say with a chuckle.
“That like our house.” she says.

Later after we arrive back home, while we are eating our dinner. We made a side salad to go with our meal. While we were waiting for our meal to cool. We sat down to eat our salads. Gino shared part of his salad with Isabel. He cut up the pieces smaller for her and added tiny croutons (she loves croutons) to the top. After Isabel says grace, we begin eating. Gino and I both notice that immediately Isabel picks off all the croutons and eats them first. She then begins to eat the salad; a few minutes go by and she says…

“Mommy, where the coupons?” she says
“Coupons?” I say, while Gino and I look at each other perplexed.
“Where the coupons go?” she says pointing to her salad this time.
“Coupons?” I say again
Then it hits Gino…Croutons!
“Those weren’t coupons, they are called croutons. You ate all the croutons, silly.” I say

Away From The Blog

Since last Monday, we have been out sick.

Isabel awoke Monday morning with a cough, low fever, and a runny nose. By Monday evening it was a high fever, which lasted up until Thursday morning. The runny nose finally stopped drippng about that time too. The cough she still has with her but it’s nothing that disturbs her sleep or interrupts the day to day. So we’ll be back to blogging. Until next time…

Tear-a

Thanksgiving 2005

Gino and I traveled back to Nebraska for a family reunion during the Thanksgiving holiday in 2005 and during that time we had family photos taken of the Kuhr’s that were in attendance. After arriving back home Gino and I purchased a large photo of the family that is displayed in our front room.

A great learning tool that I started with Isabel is to point out people in the photo and say their name to her and how they are related to her. She has gotten very good at pointing out members of my immediate family – my parents and brothers but  then she gets a little confused about others – aunts, uncles, cousins…EXCEPT…my cousin Tera. If you point to Tear-a (that’s how Isabel says Tera; it’s so cute!) and ask her who that is, she’ll say, “Tear-a, I like Tear-a!”

Where is God?

This morning while Isabel and I were eating our breakfast, she was singing a round of “Twinkle Twinkle little star” and the way I have taught her how to sing it goes a little something like is…

“Twinkle Twinkle little star how I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle Twinkle little star God has placed you were you are.”

Well this morning when she got to the part in the song about God; I stopped her from singing further by asking her this…

Me: Where is God?

Isabel: (thinks a moment and says…) At the store.

Me: At the store? What is God doing at the store?

Isabel: Buying groceries and pushing bus.
(Our store has a shopping cart with a bus attached to the front of the cart and Isabel has just become aware of this and asks all the time to go to the store and ride the bus.)

Then later this evening, I again asked her the same question during dinner; while she was again singing Twinkle Twinkle.

Me: Where is God?

Isabel: At the store?

Me: What’s he doing at the store?

Isabel: Buying food.

Me: What kind of food?

Isabel: Eggs.

Gino: Does God like eggs?

Isabel: Yah. I like eggs.

Remembering…

Today is my Gma Euny Kuhr’s birthday; she would have been 83.
This is my tribute to her…

1981 – Grasshopper Junction, Arizona
My family and I had just moved to Arizona the previous year and my grandparents came out to visit. We took them to the Grand Canyon, the London Bridge in Lake Havasu, Vegas, and even the booming town of Grasshopper Junction!

1988 – Killeen, Texas
My parents, grandparents, and I went to visit my Uncle Denny and his family for Christmas. My Gma loved to play cards and the card game of choice for the Kuhr clan is Pinochle or Euchre. My Gma would play any card game though, it was her way of visiting with family and friends.

1991 – Omaha, Nebraska
This is Gma and my nephew, Kevin. Unfortunately, Kevin passed away from SIDS three months later. I was the one who received the call from Gma that he had passed…I can still her frantic voice like it was yesterday.

1994 – Ozark Lake, Missouri
This is how you could always find Gma (if she wasn’t playing cards),
in the kitchen either cleaning or cooking.
She could stuff you like a turkey – her food was so good!

Summer 2000 – Copenhagen, Denmark
Gma and Gmpa made a trip to Denmark were the Kuhr’s came from, of course.

August 1997 – Lincoln, Nebraska
My grandparents 50th wedding anniversary.
This is by far my most favorite photo of them together.
(it looks so much better then this scan!)

September 14th, 2007 – Blair, Nebraska
This was the last day I saw my Gma Euny.
She passed away on January 19th, 2008.

Still like two young “kids” so deeply in love!

60 years together equals
4 sons,
7 grandsons,
3 granddaughters,
5 great grandsons,
and 7 great granddaughters.
