Vacation Bible School – Wilderness Escape 2014 – Day 3

Today is day 3 of VBS and it’s raining!

She was happy to get back to VBS and is looking forward to tomorrow when she gets to go on the field trip.

The Bible point for today…

Chase the cheetah says: ” God gives us strength, so… trust God!”

Today they…

  • heard the Bible story about Israel defeating the Amalekites (Exodus 17:8-16)
  • played games in the gym (since it was raining outside). Place “manna” (cotton ball) on your head and try to shot it off your teammates head with a water gun. Isabel didn’t like this game. She said, “Not everyone likes to get wet!”
  • made a weaving craft (didn’t bring it home today).
  • Bible verse for today, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
  • revealed more of the “mystery” photo. Isabel says she figured it out today, it’s Moses.
  • watched a skit preformed live by Pastor S. and his “helpers” and more of the short movie series clip.

Bug In A Jar

Last night Gino and I were outside enjoying a beautiful evening in the backyard when I spotted this pair of frogs.

2014-07-22 002_edited-1

Before I ran to get the camera this little frog had both front feet on the glass staring at the moth!
What was it thinking?!?!

Poor little frog, dinner is right there and there is no way to get it or is there…

While I’m watching the other frog on the other side, this one climbs up and positions itself.

As I’m watching the frogs and the moth, other bugs outside the glass are drawn to the light. I’m thinking, these frogs are SMART, they don’t have to sit and wait hoping a buy will fly by! They just have to wait for them to be drawn toward the light!

Vacation Bible School – Wilderness Escape 2014 – Day 2

Today is day 2 of VBS.

She said today was better then yesterday. She was in a better mood when I picked her up.

The Bible point for today…

Humphrey the camel says: “God gives us what we need, so… trust God!”

Today they…

  • made sandals (she didn’t bring them home today).
  • more water games on the field. Today she was wetter when I picked her up!
  • “For your Father knows exactly what you need before you ask him!” Matthew 6:8
  • watched a movie short.
  • heard a Bible story about God providing manna and quail (Exodus 16) for the Israelites.
  • played a game with “manna” (marshmallows) and “quail” (chicken nuggets). Isabel loved this!

She’s made a new (old) friend (someone from her Prims class last year) and she has gotten more involved with the others in her group.

Vacation Bible School – Wilderness Escape 2014 – Day 1

Today is the first day of VBS: Wilderness Escape 2014!

Learning about Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness and join one of the 12 tribes of Israel.

She was excited to get there but was sad, disappointed and grumpy when I picked her up. Her best friend from school wasn’t there and she didn’t know anyone else in her group. Friends from school were in other groups.

Mo the mouse says, ” God is with us, so… trust God!”

Today they…

  • made a name tag necklace.
  • played a water game with buckets going over their heads. She thought the game wasn’t fun and she didn’t want to get wet.
  • Heard the Bible story about the Israelites crossing the Red Sea. (Exodus 14:1-15:21)
  • watched the beginning series of movie shorts. Each day they watch a little more.
  • Bible verse for today. “God answered, ” I will be with you.” Exodus 3:12.
  • made a clay necklace with beads.

Even though she said she didn’t have a good time today, she still wants to go back.

New Hose Reel

This weekend we installed a new hose reel.

The last one we had, I broke. The whole thing was plastic, what do you expect! Last summer I broke the gear drive button and this year I broke the handle off the wheel to whined the hose up. So we decided we would pay the extra money for a medal reel. We found this nice one at the home improvement store.

Since it was a “mounted” hose reel, Gino came up with this cool idea to make it work for us.

Our new hose reel is nice!

Fun Boredom-Busters: Bracelet

Today we busted out the boredom busters from Grandma that she sent last month.

Isabel wasn’t in the mood to work on the project but that quickly changed when I got out the supplies.

Happily working on her bracelet.

She figured out how to do the knot from the instructions and made sure they were all tight!

She has more cording to make 5 more bracelets.

Nana Sends Gifts

When Preston and Lexci came to our house after visiting Nana and Pompo in Utah. They brought some gifts from Nana for Isabel.

Nana sent her bread-presses, joke CD’s with booklets, clothes and a bed cover. Isabel’s favorite thing… the bed cover!

First thing this morning she asks if she can try it on her bed.
Thank you Nana!

Girls Can Engineer

Last year Gino told me about this new company that is creating toys for girls to get them thinking about other things besides being a “princess“.

Well, I’ve had my eye on the toys at Target and when I noticed they were all on clearance the other day. I bought all 3 kits.

Today with nothing else to really do, we got out our first kit: building a parade float (and other cool stuff).

The parts to our kit include: 1 book and miscellaneous building parts.

Her first words… “Oh, this looks interesting!”

2014-07-09 006_edited-1

After following along with the story in the book we come to our first project build:
a pageant/float seat.

Using the exact same pieces… Isabel’s seat is on the right and my seat is on the left.

Isabel beginning to build the parade float from the book.
She’s focused on her work.

She finished!
(this is just one of examples from the book)

I tried getting her come up with a different float idea, not in the book, but she didn’t want to, today, maybe tomorrow. The book also mentions adding a paper banners to the float and I know Isabel would be interested in doing that. She’s always cutting out things and assembling them into larger paper art projects. The ideas are endless!
