Second Grade: Day 29

Today is Monday! A new week of learning is ahead and there is more MAP testing this week.

The Bible verse for this week is…

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good work.”
– Ephesians 2:10a

Today during class they played a new game. It was a shape (math shapes) game that they played together on the floor. Isabel said she liked this game but got stuck on 2 of the shapes.

Music with Mr. G went better today. The class has been having issues with talking out of turn and not listening to instructions. They worked on their program coming up in December and I got to hear a tiny sample of one of the songs! Sounds great.

For S.a.T. (show and tell) the class is to share something that they have learned about fall.

Isabel said no one from her group did it today and I was shocked! We had gone over several things that she has learned about fall just the night before. But she said she couldn’t remember and no one did it anyway. Bit of a disappointment.

Concert: The D.A.

Last night, we headed to an area church to support our fellow Christian brothers in the new band: The D.A.

These brothers used to be part of another larger band called, DCB. While the leader of DCB, wanted to move on with his career and life. The D.A. wanted to stay together, so they formed a new band.

They are doing a great job and their music is another awesome addition to our collection!

2013-10-30 009_edited-1We purchased a bracelet and CD for Isabel.
(bracelet inside: I’ve never felt more found than when I’m lost in you.)
After the concert we waited around to talk with the band and to get autographs.

God bless The D.A.

Second Grade: Day 28

Today is Friday, which means it’s test day in school. There is a spelling test, Bible and math. Isabel has worked really hard this week learning in all those areas. We’ll find out how she does on Monday!

Today, Isabel said they worked on a continent book.

My Project 3-001_edited-1

They had to cut out the continents and then paste them to a page in their book. When I asked her what continents there were she said…”Asia, North America, South America, Antarctica, and Africa.” She couldn’t remember any of the others. She did great! She missed only 2; Europe and Australia. She really enjoyed doing this little project, “it was the most fun she had all day!” (it bet out recess!).

The class played their “sparkle” math game again today. Isabel couldn’t remember who won.

During lunch, Teacher Mrs. A has been reading the Boxcar children series by Gertrude C. Warner. Isabel is really enjoying these stories and when I told her they books originally came out in the 20’s she was surprised.

Speaking of lunch, Isabel said the whole class (except for 2) got hot lunch today. So they all had to go and get their lunch together since so many were getting lunch! Usually lunch is brought to the classroom.

Friday’s are also clean out your desk days. Isabel said she cleaned her desk out and got rid of all the trash from the week. She put all her journal’s and folder’s on one side and book’s and other things on the other. Isabel said Teacher Mrs. A doesn’t allow anyone to dump there desk on the floor! So each Friday everyone has to clean out there desk and make it neat.

Tonight we are heading to a concert. Isabel has been super excited about it all week! We are going to see the Digital Age. These guys used to be part of the DCB or David Crowder Band. Looking forward to a great night of worship!

Second Grade: Day 27

Today is Thursday and it’s P.E. with Mrs. S.

For P.E. Isabel said they played dead ants and don’t steal from the cookie jar. She was disappointed that they didn’t play clean the yard, which is her favorite game. Maybe next time.

I asked her about S.a.T. and she couldn’t remember who brought anything.

She didn’t mention anything else about her day. Other then her time out at recess.

Second Grade: Day 26 – Fun Lunch

Today is Wednesday it is Chapel and library day.

It’s also FUN LUNCH! It’s the first Fun Lunch of the year! Isabel loves these days. The school orders pizza from an area chain and then the kids also get a bag of goodies to go with it. Today she had cheese pizza, cheese stick, fruit roll up, cookies and juice. Everyone loves Fun Lunch days!

This morning just before heading out the door, I told Isabel I wanted to get her picture because she looked very nice for Chapel today…

2013-10-09 015_edited-1

She looks very grown up today!
She’s adorable!

In class today they played their game called “sparkle“. Isabel was trying to explain it to me and what I understand the game to be is it’s a spelling game. They played 2 rounds and Isabel won the first round, the second round no one won.

Today’s Chapel was lead by a parent whose child is in the kindergarten class. Isabel said the lesson was about being “tied up in sin“. She said several of the 4th grade kids demonstrated how it feels like to be “tied up in sin” with a cassette tape. Sounds like a great message.

Isabel said they also went to the computer lab today. While there, they worked on “packet work“. Today she learned that there are 101 keys on a keyboard and she learned about the “space bar”.

During library, she got a new M.T.H. book called “Good Morning Gorilla“. We’ll read it together after school as her reading homework.

She also talked about recess. She’s been working on learning how to move on the monkey bars. She said today during on of their recesses, they had to stay “up top” on the asphalt because the mower was out mowing the grass today.

Second Grade: Day 25

Today is Tuesday and it’s music class with Mr. G and A.S.O. (All School Open)!

In music they practiced their songs again for their music program. Isabel can’t remember the songs… hopefully she remembers them the night of the program!

Today was MAP testing. The school does this testing 3 times a year throughout the school year to see where your child falls locally and nationally.

Several kids brought items for S.a.T. There was a Jesse and Woody doll, a robot and an airplane. Free choice S.a.T. is turning out to be a good week because so far most of the kids are participating.

The last recess was in the gym because of sever thunder and rain. Isabel said the thunder was so loud it went “BOOM” at school. I told her, I had heard the thunder too and it was so loud it was shaking the windows at the house and vibrating through the floor it was so loud!

Second Grade: Day 24

Today is Monday and it’s music class with Mr. G.

Isabel said, in music, they practiced for their Christmas program and that the program is about a mystery.

This week the class is learning how to change the “y” to “i” and add “ed”. Isabel says she doesn’t like having to do that because it’s just to confusing. I told her once you practice it enough you’ll get the hang of it.

This week’s language arts book is: “Days with Frog and Toad” and naming the parts of a sentence. All week they will be doing assignments to learn the sentence parts.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.”
– Zephaniah 3:17

When I asked her what she said about them. She said, she told the class she’s had them since she was little. She has 2 of them because she lost one in a store once and Momma didn’t want me to be sad, so she got me another one. She also sleeps with them both every night (mostly). She didn’t get to say a whole lot and couldn’t remember what else she said.

The Bible lesson this week is about Moses and the first 9 plagues of Egypt.

Winterized

Today we were able to get back outside to winterize the yard for winter and our rainy season.

Gino had ordered 2-yards of gravel 3 weeks ago and we didn’t get it all moved to the back yard before the first rainy storms moved into the area. With a break in the weather, we headed out to move the gravel from the driveway, mow the lawn, tend the flower beds, garden and get things put away for winter. Busy day but it was great to get outdoors again.

2013-10-06 004_edited-1

The gravel was added around the whole entire shed but we ended up with more then we needed.

2013-10-06 009_edited-1So we spread it out in the area across from the garden and then made a pile with the rest.
