First Grade: Day 48 – Half Day

Today is Terrific Tuesday which means it’s Chapel and library day (normally)! Since today is a half day, library has been cancelled for today.

This week is Parent-Teacher Conference and the book fair is going all week long too. This Thursday is also a special hat day, the kids can wear a hat all day in honor of one of our first grade students (I’ll explain later).

Today however is a special Grandparents Chapel.

Welcome to all the Grandparents.
The sanctuary was filled with many grandparents today!

Since I am off work I get the honor of attending in place of our Grandparents. The program began at 10:30 and went for over an hour. All classes and even a few of the preschool classes got up to sing to all the grandparents in attendance. It was great!

Pastor Carpenter (from the church) gave a great message about being a “cheerleader” for the grand kids. To enjoy a grandchild’s successes without the constraints that come when you are also responsible for the child’s behavior. Just cheer them on! Set a strong Christ-centered foundation for parents and grand-kids to follow in. The example he gave was of Timothy.

Fantastic message even for me, as I’m laying my “foundation” for my future grand kids!

My Parent-Teacher Conference was short and sweet. Isabel is doing fantastic in all areas. Her report card shows all “Excellent Progress” or “+”. She won’t receive a “grade” report card until next year. She needs to work a bit on her neatness and completing her work on time, otherwise she’s going great!

Below is a copy of Isabel’s MAP testing results. They do this testing twice in the school year to see where the children are academically. This was the first test for this school year…

Isabel is the top dark blue line!!
The school district average is the middle orange line.
The national average is the bottom light blue line.
