Kindergarten: Day 115

This morning was a gorgeous morning, the sun was out and it’s expected to reach 60 degrees today! Heat wave! Maybe we can get outside to ride bikes or scoot on her scooter. We’ll see…

I got a call this morning after taking Isabel to school about working this afternoon. So after picking Isabel up from school and eating lunch with her and Gino, I headed back to school to learn how to “close” out the day the kids.

Before heading to school, Isabel was able to tell me all about her day during lunch.

The opening activity was a dot-to-dot of a Apatosaurus (uh-pat-oh-sore-is).

Dice rolling math. Roll the dice and add up the numbers that you get!
Don’t know why she didn’t finish this.

Today was P.E. class. So her class and the other Kindergarten class got together in the gym for some indoor fun! They did some warm-up exercises like jumping jacks, running in place, and jumping from side-to-side. Afterward they used hula-hoops to play 2 games, one called “scrambled eggs” and another game Isabel couldn’t remember the name of. Isabel said she really liked playing the games and enjoyed using the hula-hoops. For the last game they played she got a really pretty blue one.

The class also went to art class today too. Isabel said they went to another classroom with a different teacher, not Mrs. Boettcher for art. During art class they were given a piece of paper and told to draw characters from the book/movie, “Charlotte’s Web“. They drew a sheep, Wilbur, a goose, and Charlotte.

Isabel’s amazing drawing from art class.

The Bible story was the continuing story of Moses again, but Isabel said she couldn’t remember what they talked about today.

Isabel was able to make a Noah’s ark during some free-play time. She used plastic stencils to make the deer and elephant but drew the boat and cat on the boat.

My day went by very quickly and before I knew it the kids began to head home. We had 2 kids just up to 6 p.m. when the center closes. It was a good day, I learned a lot and got to meet more of the kids in the program.

Kindergarten: Day 114

Today was show-and-tell and it’s the girls turn. They were told to bring something green to class to share. Isabel doesn’t have anything in the green family, until I remembered her little stone turtle. We purchased it last year when we visited Mt. Saint Helen’s with Grandma and Grandpa. It’s a very light green but at least it was green!

She mentioned someone brought a microphone (but it wasn’t green) and that’s all she said about show-and-tell and her day. I got side-tracked with eating lunch and getting to the grocery store that I completely forgot to talk about it anymore! Terrible…

Kindergarten: Day 113 – Class Chapel

We woke up to a little covering of snow. Nothing to close the schools but it made for a pretty drive to school.

RAWR! RAWR! RAWR! RAWR!

The opening dot-to-dot activity was of a Brachiosaurus (bray-kee-oh-sore-is).

Back: Isabel drew her own dinosaur on the back .

Continuing the Dino theme, Mrs. Boettcher read from the How Do Dinosaurs series again today. Today she read How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight by Jane Yolen. Isabel said she liked this book too.

The Bible story was the continuing story of Moses and the Israelites traveling to the Promised Land. The story was from Exodus 20:1-17 and the Ten Commandments.

Today was a special Chapel with Isabel and her class giving the message.

We opened with the Pledge for the American flag given by Madeline, followed by the Christian flag given by Mishy, the Bible pledge was given by Jayden and the opening prayer was given by Reece. Mrs. Seal and some helpers from the 5th grader class opened with a few songs.

Then Mrs. Boettcher called the class up to the stage to sing their class theme song, “I am Jesus’ little flower“. After the song, the class sat down and we were presented with a video story, “The Enormous Turnip” by Kathy Parkinson and read by Mrs. Boettcher, her husband and the kids from class. Following the story Mrs. Boettcher had made a small photo video of the kids following the lesson in the story of the turnip. It brought tears to several of the people in Chapel, myself included. It was an awesome presentation!! Mrs. Boettcher did a beautiful job!!!

Closing Chapel, Isabel and Lincoln were given the opportunity to give a blessing prayer over Mrs. Boettcher. She did a terrific job!

Afterward, the class headed to recess. While I waited in the car reading a book for about 30 min. before picking her up!

Phonics work for the letter “Xx“.

Back: phonics work again. I’m glad to see that she does all the letters and not just the “required” letter. Great job!

Writing practice for the letter “Qq“.

Back: The Queen told Quinn to Quiet his Quack while sitting under a Quilt by a Quail.

Kindergarten: Day 112

What a downpour, we had on our way to school this morning. I felt like I needed a boat to get to school! The rain didn’t last long though and it was cleared up by early afternoon. The sun was actually out for a few hours before it set. I know in our house we are really excited that spring is almost here, in just 15 days! We are looking forward to getting out of the house, getting our hands dirty, heading to the park, and maybe having a picnic or two. So exciting!

RAWR! RAWR! RAWR! RAWR!

When we arrived at school, the room was decorated with the the science theme this month: DINOSAURS! There were many many many books on the subject and even a prehistoric play area with a volcano! Later when I picked Isabel up there were dozens of dinosaurs out for the class to play with.

Isabel said that Mrs. Boettcher read a book, from the How Do Dinosaurs series, today she read How Do Dinosaurs Go to School? by Jane Yolen. Isabel said she liked hearing the story but would really like to read the book herself and the many others in the series too. We’ll have to look into those at the library…

The Bible story today was the continuing story of Moses and the Israelites traveling to the Promised Land. The story today was from Exodus 17:10-13 and the war with the Amalekites. She told me that Moses got so tired holding his arms up during the war, that he had to get help holding them up from his friends.

Since it was raining so hard outside this morning, the class didn’t get to go outside for recess today. They stayed in the classroom and had “free choice” Monday (which is usually on Friday)! Isabel said her and Reece played together with the wooden blocks. They were just making stuff.

TOMORROW is Chapel and Isabel’s class is going to be running the whole show! I am going to attend (along with Gino I hope) and get some video and photos. I’ve been asking her what they will be doing but she won’t tell me anything! I’ll just have to see tomorrow. However I won’t be able to add anything without my desktop working. I hope to get it fix soon. I feel lost without it…

(Will add photos when I get a chance… after my large paper weight is restored to working order!)

Kindergarten: Day 111 – Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Today was Dr. Seuss’ 108th Birthday!

The whole school participated in the Read Across America party to celebrate this special day.

The opening activity was a coloring page for green eggs and ham. Isabel said she got “green eggs and ham”, which was actually a cookie decorated like an egg and two sticky fruit snacks for ham. Isabel said it was yummy!

Word combinations for “at“.

Dot-to-dot of Horton!

Mrs. Boettcher read several books to the class, “The Cat in the Hat” and “The Cat in the Hat Comes Back”. They even got to watch the old 1974 Lorax cartoon. She really liked that too. The class did lots of Dr. Seuss activities, they even made hats…
