Happy Birthday Daisy

Today is Daisy’s 9th birthday!

To honor the occasion, I made her a whole wheat carrot/peanut butter cake with peanut butter frosting. I found the recipe online and made it earlier in the day so it had time to cool. I think as soon as I started getting the ingredients together, Daisy knew that I was doing something for her. She sat right behind me the whole time! I even let her lick the mixing beaters.

The birthday girl and Isabel, holding the cake that I made for Daisy.

We sang “Happy Birthday” but she wasn’t the least bit interested…
she wanted that cake!
We let her lick some of the “icing” before cutting off a slice for her to eat before her dinner. She loved it! Her little tail was just wiggling.

Happy 9th Birthday, Daisy!

Kindergarten: Day 102

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

Today is the 100th day celebration!
I know Isabel (the whole class for that matter) has been so excited to celebrate this milestone of 100 and all it’s things!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

This morning as we headed into the classroom, Isabel was the first to step through the door and she immediately got excited about what was ahead. The east wall bulletin board was just beginning to be decorated with the bags of 100 items for those who had turned there baggies in earlier. I will have to get a picture of that for sure!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

The opening activity was a dot-to-dot to 100!
Isabel did such an amazing job, she really took her time counting all the numbers!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

Isabel’s 100 items were… pom-pom’s!

Mrs. Boettcher (Thank you for the above photo!) had the kids count out the items into groups of 10 and then to 100.

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

After counting out there items they were allowed to walk around the room and see the 100 items that others had brought (if they weren’t up on the board yet).

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

Writing/counting to 100!
Mrs. Boettcher told me that Isabel took her time working on this, she actually didn’t get it finished at school. So we had her do it at home. Beautiful writing!

100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100 – 100

New Job Orientation

Today was my new job orientation. It was scheduled for 3 hours but we actually got all the areas covered early.

My official job title is Substitute Teacher.

I am on a 90-days probation. The school needs to get a “feel” of my working abilities and I need to get a “feel” of where I fit at the school. I will be in the classroom with a lead teacher. There is plenty of work already, so I look forward to actually getting into the classroom with the kids. I will be working with 3 and 4 year-old in the pre-school program.

Kindergarten: Day 101

What a wet rainy day! Sometimes the rain came down hard, sometimes the rain was soft, but mostly the rain just came down! The weather looks to be wet for the next several days and on into the weekend. How does your weekend look ahead?

Today was Thursday and the means P.E. Isabel says she doesn’t like Thursdays and P.E. because she gets hot and sweaty. With the rainy day outside, P.E. was held in the gym today. Isabel said they played a game called “quicksand”. The gym floor was “quicksand” and along the way there were hula-hoops spaced out across the floor. Each of the kids and to make their way across the “quicksand” without falling in. Isabel said she fell in the “quicksand” once and had to sit out of the game for awhile. Otherwise she sounded like she had a fun time… and didn’t mention anything about getting hot and sweaty!

Nothing else was mentioned about the day, other then a disciplinary issue in the classroom.

The opening activity was a dot-to-dot counting to 20. Very cute!

I don’t know why Isabel didn’t complete her work again today…
she said she had to go P.E. and didn’t get to finish.

Back: “Dd” practice writing.

Tomorrow the class will be celebrating Wednesday’s 100th day! Some of her classmates have already taken their 100 items to class. I’ve seen macaroni and pennies. I can’t wait to hear about the other items that are brought to class!

In honor of tomorrow’s 100th day celebration, Mrs. Boettcher read the book “Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten” by Joseph Slate. Looks like a great way to prepare the kids for 100th day!

Kindergarten: Day 100

Today is day 100 of school!

The class was given their baggies to fill with 100 items, which they will share on Friday when the celebrate the day! Isabel has changed her mind several times over the past several weeks over what items she was going to take. Tonight however, she decided on what it is she’s taking. I will keep it a secret until after school on Friday. It’ll be interesting to hear what everyone brought to share…

Today was also Show and Tell for the boys, they were to bring something that was red. Lincoln brought red Angry Birds,  Lliam brought a red robot, and Jayden brought red race cars. Ja’Siah and Nevan forgot their’s and Mishy went home sick today.

Before recess Isabel said her and 4 of her classmates went to do their MAP testing. Afterward they were able to go out and play with the rest of the class already outside.

The opening activity was letter “Cc” practice writing.

Back: more writing practice for letter “Cc“.

Phonics work with the letter “Oo“.
Oo” is for Ostrich, Olive, Ox, and Otter.

Back: More phonics practice.
Isabel said she didn’t get to finish this page because she had to go to MAP testing.

Kindergarten: Day 99 – Valentines Day

This morning we (all) headed out the door to school. Gino and I were volunteering during the party! Gino grilled up pancakes, while I helped with set up and waitress-ing. We had fun!

After morning exercises, the class was broken up into 3 groups and each group went to a different station… a Valentine art station/hand out Valentines to classmates, a Valentine Bingo station, and the pancake breakfast station. Enjoy!

The opening activity was a coloring page. Isabel did a wonderful job coloring this!

First group for Valentine Bingo. The kids used conversation hearts as the pieces.

The first group of pancake eaters. Most of the kids just had one pancake but  a few of them actually had 2. Isabel was lucky she was in this group, she said she was hungry!

Breakfast was pancakes, sausage, apple slices and grapes, and juice boxes. Yummy!

Group 2 of the pancake eaters. They did very well eating together, most needed help cutting their pancakes.

After pancakes, Isabel’s group moved on to handing out their Valentines to their classmates and making Valentines art.
While handing out Valentines, each of the kids had a red paper gift bag with their name on it, lined up along the front. Each of the kids got to place their Valentines in their classmates bags before working on the Valentines art.

The last group playing Valentine Bingo before heading over to eat pancakes.

The last area Isabel’s group visited was Bingo. Isabel never did get Bingo but she did get a small prize anyway, a small top.

After all the kids had visited each area, the class went outside for recess and then headed to Chapel. Isabel said they talked about sacrifices but couldn’t remember who the speaker was. I’ll find out more later. While the kids headed out to recess, Gino and I, along with the other volunteer’s cleaned up the room. Afterward, we headed back home. Later, when it was time to pick up Isabel from school, I headed back to get her.

Isabel’s Valentines from her class. The pencil she’s holding is from Mrs. Boettcher.
When I asked her later what her favorite part of the day was; she said, “The pancakes!”

Kindergarten: Day 98

Hope you had a good weekend. We stayed home all weekend and indoors. I am still battling this cold that I’ve had since last Tuesday but I am doing better.

Isabel said she didn’t have any MAP testing this week. Maybe she’s finished or maybe they forgot or maybe they will finish on another day. Not sure.

The Bible story was the continuing story from Exodus 8:12-15, 20-32 and was about Moses and 2 plagues; lice and locust.

The opening activity was writing with the letter “Tt“.

Back: more practice with the letter “Tt“.

During recess today, she said she played with Lincoln and Nevan. They played Dr. and Isabel was the Dr. She said that Lincoln and a cough and had to give him cough drops. She said she even got to chase around Lliam, Lincoln, and Jayden.

Phonics work with the letter “Oo“.

Back: more phonics practice with the letter “Oo“.

Tomorrow is the class Valentines day party. Gino and I have both volunteered to help out in the classroom. Hopefully I can get some photos while I’m in there! See ya tomorrow…
