Kindergarten: Day 76

When I dropped Isabel off at her classroom this morning Mrs. Boettcher stopped me and to told me to head back to school around 10:30 for Chapel. Isabel was going to be giving the prayer and singing a special song with her class. I was excited to attend but need to get some errands finished quickly before getting back to the school.

When I arrived back at school, I headed over to the church sanctuary since I knew that is where Chapel was held on Tuesdays. As I stepped inside, I was surprised to see about 6 other parents attending as well.

The principal, Mrs. B, welcomed us to Chapel and let 4 “helpers” take over from there. 3 of Isabel’s classmates lead us in the pledges to the Christian flag, American flag, and the Bible. The last “helper” lead us in opening prayer. Afterward Mrs. S, the music teacher, lead us in singing. After singing, the Mrs. B gave the microphone over to Mrs. Boettcher, who had invited a special guest to give the message for today’s Chapel. Before the speaker, Isabel and all her classmates got on stage to sing the “Flower Song“.

I am Jesus little flower.
I am planted in God’s love.
I am growing growing daily by the sun and rain above.
I am learning how share, how to give and how to care.
How to spread God’s love everywhere and give God’s grace to all.

I am Jesus little flower.
I am planted in God’s love.
I am growing growing daily by the sun and rain above.
Give me strength and light each day in hopes I might move someday.
Bless the world in a special way and give God’s best.

I am Jesus little flower.
I am planted in God’s love.
I am growing growing daily by the sun and rain above.

After singing Mrs. Boettcher introduced her “special” guest, Mrs. C, who happened to be the principal from the old school where Mrs. Boettcher taught last year. Mrs. C told the story of the “Gingerbread man” but it wasn’t the same story I remember…

A little old lady was lonely and just wanted a friend. So she made a friend out of gingerbread. Into the oven went her little gingerbread friend. When she went to take him out of the oven, the gingerbread man popped out and he said, “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.” Oh rude! He ran away and ran into a little old man. The little old man asked him where he was going. The gingerbread man said, “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.” He ran away and ran into a cat. The cat said “meow.” The gingerbread man said, “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.” He ran away and ran into a cow. The cow said, “moo.” The gingerbread man said, “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.” He ran away and ran into a fox. But the fox was sly and ignored the gingerbread man. The gingerbread man got upset because he just wanted to tell the fox, “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.” The fox told the gingerbread man he was trying to get to the other side of the river. The gingerbread thought, “well, I want to get to the other side of the river too.” The fox told the gingerbread man to get on his nose and he did! Guess what they fox did?

After the story was over Mrs. C told us to think of what would happen if the gingerbread man read his Bible and did what the Bible told him so…

Instead of running away from everyone and being rude, the gingerbread man said, “Care and share, don’t be rude. I love you, I’m the gingerbread dude!” When he finally met the fox, he would invite him to the home of the little old lady because she was lonely and needed friends. What a great lesson!

“Care and share, don’t be rude. I love you, I’m the gingerbread dude!”

After Chapel Isabel headed back to class while, I headed to the car to wait a 1/2 hour before having to pick her up. After class, she met me at the door eating a gingerbread cookie.

Kindergarten: Day 72

Today was Isabel’s first day back to school after the Christmas holiday and being sick since Saturday.

When we arrived at the classroom, everyone was excited to see her. Hugs were given all around while I spoke with Mrs. Boettcher.

After school we learned that today had been a show-and-tell day for the girls. Maybe next time we’ll get to participate!

Isabel got her first book homework today. Her book homework was “I do read” book number 3. She easily read the book for me and later in the evening she read it to Gino before bed.
