Chili Verde

Yesterday, Gino roasted and made himself some Chili Verde for the first time ever. Enjoy!

8 peppers roasting in the oven.

It was great to watch him watch the peppers in oven; like a little kid in a candy store! He also shared great stories of his Grandma Tee doing this exact same thing when he was a kid.

Roasting up nicely! The skin would pop and a few times made Gino and I jump!

The smell bothered me but it’s not as bad as pinto beans in a crock pot!

Time to turn them.

All roasted up and ready to steam in the bowl.

After letting the peppers “rest” in a bowl, he took out the seeds and took off the skin.

The “meat” of the pepper.

Gino kept telling me that I would be able to take the “heat” from these peppers. I didn’t believe him because they smelled HOT to me.

Chopped up.

Gino’s Chili Verde!

By the time he actually got to eat it, it was to hot for me to eat but at least he got to enjoy it!

Mother’s Day Gift

Today I celebrate my 6th year as a mom to my special daughter. I finally got to open my gift from Isabel…

She had given it to me on Monday after school and she made me wait the whole week to open it. However, I didn’t think Isabel was going to be able to wait for Sunday to arrive! Every morning she would ask me if the next day was Sunday, so that I could open my gift.

Lots of love for Mommy today!

My gift; a stepping stone inlaid with precious jewels!

School News: Ran Out Of Time

Today when I arrived back at the classroom to pick up Isabel, she acted like she wasn’t pleased to see me… and she wasn’t. She had a rough morning and was not happy about the day ending at school.

My understanding is that the class was given on opportunity to make necklaces for their mothers (Mother’s day gift) and while they were making the necklaces Isabel had to go to the bathroom. When she got back to the classroom from going to the bathroom, free play had already begun and Isabel needed to finish her necklace. So she finished it and that cut into her free play time and she wasn’t allowed to join the others for the same amount of time as what they had. She was upset because she didn’t get to play with her friends and wanted the chance to play all day with them at school for the rest of the day!

After talking with her and getting her back into a slightly better mood, she then popped up and said she had to show me something! She then took me over to the play-kitchen area and showed me a very pretty wooden baby cradle that looks as though someone made for the class and the baby dolls. She seemed to be in a better mood after showing me this and then proceeded to “hide” the necklace she made for me. After rounding up all her paperwork, giving hugs to Mrs. W, we finally left the classroom after everyone else had left for home.

The May bulletin board with the flowers from April.
Can you find Isabel’s flower? I’ll give you a hint… it’s under Jesus’ feet.

The academics board for May. Isabel really likes this one, she says it’s very colorful and pretty. May is a review of all the numbers, colors, shapes, and letters that they have learned over the entire school year.

When I asked her what the Bible story was about she said it was about a man and a lady going to see Jesus. There were people taking Jesus somewhere, she couldn’t remember, and the man and the lady got to see Jesus.  She asked me if I had heard that Bible story before and I told her I’ve heard a lot of Bible stories about Jesus but that one sounded new.

Today they got an extra long recess time outside. The class got to play in both the courtyard and the the playground. When I asked her who she played with she said she played with everyone for a little bit.

With my Mother’s Day thumb-print flower.

“This little flower is special, you see,
Because it was made from a part of me.
My painted thumb made each flower part
To show I love you with all my heart!”
Happy Mother’s Day!

The special helper today was Emily. For show and tell Emily brought 2 small stuffed dogs and a large stuffed reindeer. The reindeer had a light-up nose and sang. For snack Emily brought to share, Spider-man® and Tinker-bell® fruit snacks and juice. The Tinker-bell® fruit snacks had birds and acorns on them.

Orange Strawberry Juice

Last year Gino bought himself a BlendTec blender for Father’s Day and his birthday rolled in one. Since then he’s been making smoothies and shakes for special treats.

This morning however I wanted to try something different, our morning started with a orange strawberry whole juice.

Everything thrown in… orange juice (since I didn’t have oranges), strawberries, and ice… even the leaves.

Whirling in the blender. It was a bit tart, next time I’ll add a bit of banana.

After the juice, I later found Isabel reading in the guest room with Daisy.

School News: A Very Special Mother

What a BEAUTIFUL day out! Thank you, God for this great day! I’m loving it…

Have to tell a quick story… yesterday Gino, Isabel and I were on our way to the bank around 9 a.m.. When out out the main road leading to our house, I spotted sitting in a large dead tree; a very large BALD EAGLE! It was so awesome, what a fantastic way to start the day! Unfortunately I didn’t have a camera to take any pictures!

Today’s Bible story was from Genesis 21:1-5 and was the story of Sarah the mother of Isaac.

The class made a sort of Mother’s Day cards with this verse on the outside…

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small,
And always leave fingerprints,
On the furniture and walls.
But every day I’m growing-
I’ll be grown some day,
and all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away.
So here’s a little handprint
Just so you can recall,
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

…talk about make your Mommy cry! Can she stay little a little longer?!?

On the inside of the card is a blue handprint…
with what appears to be a heart in the middle!

When I walked into class to pick her up, all the kids were holding these pictures for their mothers. Isabel and I with our cup of tea. “A cup of tea for Mommy and Me.”  – with an actual tea bag tucked inside!

The special helper today was Mila. For show and tell Mila brought a brown stuffed dog. Whose name was Fluffy. For snack Mila brought to share, a sticky thing (not sure what this was!), fishy crackers, and juice.

Tumbling Tykes: Day 13

Ms. Mo has really been working with the kids to get them to stand up from a forward roll. Today was more obstacle course work and practice with the forward roll.

To get the class warmed up, Ms. Mo had them do a series of jumping exercises… jump the stick, jump the step, jump the hoops.

Isabel came back through the course; they had a few close calls (collisions with each other!!) since the kids thought they were supposed to go back the way they came instead of just running back to get in line!

Jumping over the step. Ms. Mo was also gaining knowledge as she watched each of the kids to see which foot is the most dominate.

Ms. Mo working with Isabel on the forward roll. Ms. Mo used several “aides” (steps, wedge, mat, and Ms. Mo) to help them get to stand up. No one actual stood up today.

Isabel coming down the mat from her forward roll.

After practicing the forward roll with Ms. Mo they were told to work their way around the room again, just as in past classes. Today the exercises were:
monkey roll, balance beam work with ice cream scoop, jumping the step (just like in the warm up), jumping the hoops (just like in the warm up), cart wheel practice, forward roll practice w/out help, and then forward roll w/help and “aides” (steps, wedge, mat, and Ms. Mo).

Ms. Mo hasn’t handed out certificates the last several classes so it was great to get one today! The scent for today was LEMON!

School News: Mothers Day Gift

I was wishing for a sunny day just as gorgeous as yesterday but awoke to heavy clouds and rain… again.

Isabel was captivated by the new bulletin board for the month of May (will get a photo later in the month). I have to admit it’s very colorful! The class will be going over all the letters in the alphabet and all the numbers up to 20. They will be going over all the colors and shapes they have learned throughout the year as well.

The Bible theme for this month is “truthfulness” and the Bible verse is “I have chosen the way of truth.” Psalm 119:30. The Bible concept for the month is “I can ask Jesus to help me tell the truth.” Very good stuff for the end of the year!

Lots of events are planned for this month as well… next week is a Teddy Bear picnic with all the other pre-school classes attending as well. Isabel said she didn’t know what a teddy bear picnic was and I told her she has to attend to find out! Also this month is Isabel’s last special helper day, it will be on the 27th. I have signed up both Gino and I to be in attendance for the helpers that day in class. Also, there will be a Spring Program as well. It will be on on the night of the 26th. So I will be sure to have my camera charged and ready to go for all these special events!

The Bible story today was about John. When I asked Isabel her if it was about John the Baptist, she said, “No, it was about the other John, Jesus’ friend.” So the story must have been about Jesus gathering is disciples, not really sure. She didn’t give me anymore information and couldn’t quite remember.

In honor of May day and staff appreciation week at school.

Isabel said the Mrs. W had all the children go to the preschool office to give Heidi (office admin) yellow flowers. Isabel said they hid and when Heidi returned she was surprised to see flowers at her desk from all the kids! I told Isabel that was a great surprise for Heidi and it probably made her feel very special to get flowers from the kids. Isabel thought so too.

The special helper today was Ezzra. For show and tell Ezzra brought a cute lamb and everyone got to pet it. For snack, Ezzra brought to share carrot sticks and juice.

My Mother’s day gift from Isabel… but I can’t open until then!

Driving Now In Her Imagination

Today was a gorgeous day to be outside! Gino and Isabel headed out to get started on a vegetable garden box while I stayed inside making a few phone calls. While I was on the phone with my parents, Isabel came inside to tell me that she really needed to show me something and I had to come out and see. So I headed out to see what it was…

Keep in mind that Isabel has been talking about growing up faster then she is now! Case in point, today we realized that we need to invest in boaster seats because she is now to big in weight and height for her car seats. While placing her in the truck I noticed her head is now above the back of the car seat!

She would like to be 10 just for the sake of being 10. To her 10 sounds like a big number and she wants to be 10, she told me so just the other day. Also, she’s been talking about driving. She would like Gino and I to buy her a tiny car and she would like it to be purple because she likes purple… so…

She’s driving now and already she’s breaking the law by talking on the phone! She might get her privileges taking away for awhile… both the car and the phone!

She made a car out of the hill of dirt. She added a control panel, a steering wheel, foot controls, and a seat.
