It’s a rainy wet day today… let’s make soup.
At school today, Isabel and her class made stone soup. They added potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, peas, and the stone to their soup. When I picked her up from school, the room smelled delicious but I’m not sure if they tried it because both Gino and I got different answers from Isabel about if they did or not.
The story of Stone Soup has different versions…
Some travelers arrive to a village, caring nothing but an empty pot. Upon their arrival, the villagers are unwilling to share any of their food items with the hungry travelers. The travelers fill the pot with water, drop a large stone in it, and place it over a fire in the village square. One of the villagers becomes curios and asks what they are doing. The travelers answer that they are making “stone soup”, which tastes wonderful, although it still needs a little bit of garnish to improve flavor, which they are still missing. The villager does not mind parting with just a little bit of carrot to help them out, so it gets added to the soup. Another villager walks by, inquiring about the pot, and the travelers again mention their “stone soup” which has not reached it’s full potential yet. The villager hands them a little bit of seasoning to help them out. More and more villagers walk by, each adding another ingredient to the pot. Finally, a delicious and nourishing pot of soup is enjoyed by all.
The moral of the story… that working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good is achieved.
Since it was raining outside they played games in the gym. They played Duck-Duck-Goose. Isabel got to be the Duck and the Goose! During free play in the classroom they got to play with a black and yellow tent with round windows. That was a lot of fun!
The special helper was Payton, she brought a book about ballerina’s for show and tell. For snack they had carrots with dip and juice to drink.
