First Grade: Day 65

It’s Marvelous Monday!

There is no All-School-Open today. Tonight is the 3rd-6th grades Christmas program. So they were rehearsing all their lines and songs for the performance. Good luck!

This morning Isabel had 7 R’s on her desk! The most anyone has gotten in class ever! She was super excited about it when she got out of school!

Today she played with Joy at recess. They play “horses”. They take turns being the horse, while the other person was the rider. With a jump rope around the “horses” middle, the “rider” rides around the play ground.

May His love reign in your life and bring you joy now
and throughout the new year of 2012.”

First Grade: Day 63

Today is Thankful Thursday!

Thankful Thursday is P.E. with Mrs. S and computer lab with Mrs. T. For P.E. with Mrs. S they played “four corners”. Not sure how to play but she said they played the game in library because the room was smaller then the gym.

I am working a full day the next two days. My lead Teacher Mrs. D is home sick with the flu. Yuck! So I will be filling in for her for both the a.m. pre-school 3’s class and the p.m. class. This should be fun!!!….

Today Isabel went into the Extended Day program.

The Extended Day program is our school’s after school care for elementary kids. Since I was working this afternoon, Teacher Mrs. B dropped her off after school and then I picked her up after I was finished with class. It worked out great but I missed out about hearing about her school day and only heard about her after school Extended Day.

The Bible verse for this week is…

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

Not much work from class but she did have 2 pages of math homework and spelling words to practice.

Read the story and then write about the “details”!
Love that it’s a ladybug!!

Working with nouns; a person or place.

First Grade: Day 62

Today is Wonderful Wednesday and it’s music class with Mr. G and science lab!

Today’s music class with Mr. G was rehearsal for the program next week. Isabel is very excited about the Christmas program because she has 2 speaking parts!!

Today was science lab as well and Isabel loves doing science! Today’s lesson was on “properties of matter”.

The science lab is called “milk color mix”.
Sounds interesting…

Working around Teacher Mrs. B the class observed the reaction from the experiment above with dye, milk and soap.
Isabel said she thought this was cool!

Changing properties and what it might look like.
Great stuff!!

Front: listen for the /sh/ sound in each picture.

Back: working with the /sh/ sound more.

Fill in the word that best completes the sentence.

First Grade: Day 61 – On The Air

Today is Terrific Tuesday, which means it’s Chapel and library day!

Today’s Chapel was given by Pastor Shawn. Pastor Shawn’s message was about endurance! He asked for student volunteers (Isabel raised her hand – but wasn’t called upon) to show their physical strength and spoke about training for sports. He then spoke about our spiritual strength and our eternal life race. Sounds like it was a great message! Thanks Pastor Shawn! (There will be no Chapel next week due to Christmas Program rehearsals)

Today is also the day that the whole class is “on air” at the local Christian Radio station!

They were nominated to pay tribute to all military personal by saying the “Pledge of Allegiance” on the radio!! After saying the “Pledge of Allegiance“,  they sang a small song that they sing each day after saying the “Pledge”. I waited patiently and recorded the broadcast in the car while it played on the “air”. So awesome and so proud!

(The video below was recorded on Monday but the kids reciting the Pledge didn’t air on the radio until today.)

Back in the classroom they worked on a lot of work today, Isabel brought home 5 pages of work and 3 pages of homework! Busy day.

Front: working with the /or/ sound as in for.

Back: working with /ed/ at the end of a word as in started, loved, and missed.

Front: nouns are people and places.

Back: working with more nouns.

Front: listen to the sound of the word pictured and pick the sound.
Does it go the beginning, in the middle, or at the end.

Back: is the sound a /th/ or /sh/.

First Grade: Day 60 – Spirit Award

It’s Marvelous Monday and it’s the first one in December!

  • There are only 9 days until the Christmas program,
  • 2 weeks until our SUPER CHRISTMAS SURPRISE arrives,
  • and 3 weeks until Christmas vacation!!

Marvelous Mondays are All-School Open.

This morning she had 4 Shining “R’s” on her desk when we arrived. She didn’t get her name draw for this week but that’s O.K. she did last week.

However, her whole class won the “Spirit Award“, for the first time this year! This award is given to the class that has the most student participation on “Spirit Friday’s” (which was last Friday!). The class gets to keep the banner in their room until the next “Spirit Friday“, which should be some time next month.

The “Spirit Award hanging in the classroom.
Isabel and her fellow classmates, are so excited about this!

The new Bible verse for this week is…

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

The new bulletin board in class… “What can I give Jesus”.
There answers are written on each one of the 21 bells on the tree.

Not much school was completed today. Isabel mentioned that they had practice for their Christmas program next week.

She said they had 2 recesses today. 1 in the gym and the other outside. In the gym, she played with tools and wood building something (like Daddy!). Outside she said she ran around chasing some of the other kids, “… actually the whole class did,” she said.

Today was Maddie’s Birthday and they had chocolate cupcakes. She brought home the cupcake topper which was a “Tangled” ring.

Front: spelling words for the week.
Each week she is given 10 new words that she has to learn for a spelling test that is given on Friday.

They have been chosen (nominated) by our local Christian Radio Station to pay tribute to all military personal by saying the “Pledge of Allegiance” on the radio tomorrow!!!
After saying the “Pledge of Allegiance“,  they will sing a small song that they sing each day after doing the “Pledge”. So be sure to tune in and hear!
(I will record it and the recording today was filmed as well)
