Second Grade: Day 75

Today is Monday and it’s the first day back from Christmas vacation.

It was a long day for Isabel but she made it through; just a little sluggish toward the end.

Teacher Mrs. A is delayed back east delayed in a winter storm and will not be back until Friday. So the class has a substitute, Mrs. V for the week. Today, Mrs. V, forgot about recess. Isabel was bummed out about that since she had a few gifts to give to friends during that time. No big deal there is always tomorrow.

The Bible verse for this week is…

“In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? – Psalm 56:11

S.a.T. this week is to share your favorite Christmas gift – anything! Just share! Isabel shared that she got a Nintendo 3D DS.

The new year brings with it new skills to learn at school like CURSIVE! Isabel has been wanted to learn this forever, she says. This week they will learn lowercase cursive; “i”, “t” and “u”. Teacher Mrs. A asks that the kids ONLY practice the letters that are given each week. Also NO NAMES are allowed in cursive!

Spelling Bee…

For the past 4 days we have been working on words she doesn’t know.

There are

  • 115 easy words
  • 237 average words
  • 109 difficult words
  • 461 published words total
  • the longest word is “friendliness”
  • the shortest words are “aim”, “eye” and “its”

Isabel has been working hard and has only about 70 of them to learn before the Bee on the 24th of January.

Looking forward to the competition!

Year In Review

Tonight as we were coming home from dinner out, I asked Isabel what she was thankful for from 2013.

Her first thoughts were…

  • “running through the sprinklers a few times” and
  • “getting her ears pierced”

After talking with her further, we created a list of events that we are thankful for;

  • winning the Spelling Bee – hard work pays off
  • Dodge truck fire – only the truck was lost, we were safe and our house didn’t catch fire
  • birthdays in February – Isabel and Daisy
  • Gotcha day – something we celebrate privately
  • Good health – all of us
  • Being able to get outside and enjoy God’s beauty in our own backyard – our garden produced some awesome eats
  • Graduating first grade – moving onto second
  • birthday in July – Mommy’s
  • family vacations – being able to spend time together and learning together
  • birthday in October – Daddy’s

We have had a good year. God is in control and we are so blessed and thankful for everything He provides. Even though we don’t know what 2014 will bring, we are looking forward to seeing where God lead’s us and seeing where He uses us.

God bless and we’ll see you in 2014.
