Second Grade: Day 158

Today is Monday and it’s music class with Mr. G.

For music class they continued talking about P.I. Tchaikovsky from Russia.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world…
let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds
and praise your Father in heaven. ” – Matthew 5:13-16

The Bible lesson is to learn how to let the light of Jesus shine in our life.

S.a.T. ( show and tell) for this week is to share a stuffed animal but you must share a real fact about the stuffed animal you are sharing.

This week there will MAP testing on Tuesday and Friday.

This weekend, Isabel worked on her mammal animal report. She got her first draft finished that will be needed to be complete by Friday. Next weekend she will rewrite her first draft and work on drawing her pictures. The report is due on the 6th of June.

Second Grade: Day 156

Today is Thursday and it’s P.E.

For P.E. class they played regular dodge ball and 21 dodge ball. Either way, it’s dodge ball!
Watch out for flying balls!

After school Isabel had piano lessons. She is working hard on her new song “Beauty and the Beast“. It’s a bigger song then other songs she’s learned in the past, so it’s been a challenge for her.

Yesterday after school we worked together on her mammal animal report that is due in June. She checked out a book from the library about her animal she chose and she read it yesterday for her 20 min. of reading homework. We also went online to look at different websites (i.e. National Geographic and others) for information and photos. However I think she got the most information from her library book.

This weekend she will write up her first draft for her report. Next weekend she has to have the first draft completed. The following week she has to have the final draft written up and pictures drawn and colored. The final report is to be turned in on June 6th.

Second Grade: Day 155

Today is Wednesday; it’s Chapel and library.

Today’s Chapel was lead by KidCo, the kid lead program about anti-bullying. The kid program has been to school 2 times before and ended the year with another great assembly.

The whole school has learned these important lessons…

  • I’m Now! – they are valuable and other’s are valuable too.
When kids recognize their value, they are less likely to allow bullying.
  • See, Say, Stand! – If you see bullying tell (say) it to an adult and take a stand against it.
  • Spring Into Action – When you see bullying, intervene

These core lessons are at the heart of our school. We teach the children from preschool on up through high school that we are uniquely created in the image of God and worthy of respect. Respect is part of our 3R’s program at school; Respect, Relationship, and Responsibility. The key to any anti-bullying are those 3 key lessons and they need to be taught each and every day.

She returned her library book for a mammal book for her animal report due in June. The mammal she chose from the provided list last week, was the porcupine.

The report is to written by her, with hand drawn pictures that are to colored as well. The report is to have 15+ sentences or so with specific questions answered about the mammal chosen.

Like…

  • what is the habitat of the mammal chosen.
  • what is the baby’s name of the mammal chosen.
  • what does this mammal eat.
  • how does this mammal protect itself from other animals.
  • what makes this mammal uniquely made by God.
  • (I can’t remember the other questions she had listed)

Otherwise, Isabel didn’t have much else to say about her school day. She was excited about the KidCo program and chatted about it all the way home.

Second Grade: Day 154

Today is Tuesday and it’s A.S.O. (all-school open) and music class with Mr. G.

Isabel was feeling much better this morning after resting all day yesterday in bed, so it was back to school.

Isabel said they listened to a musical/story drama about P.I. Tchaikovsky from Russia in music class with Mr. G. Isabel enjoyed the story and she liked his music too.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
– 2 Corinthians 9:7

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is free choice. Isabel was absent Monday so she missed her day and this morning we forgot about it. So she won’t be doing it this week.

Also, this week the class will be learning the capital cursiveE”, “N” and “M“.

She didn’t have much else to say about her day, other then she was glad to be back and she was feeling fine.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before but Isabel has a pen-pal from one of the other campuses at school. She mentioned it to a few months ago that she had gotten a letter from her and she had replied back. Today she finally brought the letter home.

My group of girls with Mr. Mishy and his brother Bo.
We’re soggy and wet but we had fun and hopefully learned a few things about the animals we saw.

Second Grade: Day 150

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel!

Isabel said Pastor Shawn talked in Chapel today. He talked about never giving up, even when you feel like it; try again and again.

Back in the classroom, they talked more about mammals today and the field trip. After the field trip the whole class will be working on a mammals project that will be due in 4 weeks. We’ll learn more about this mammal project Friday.

Today was RTI training (special training/teaching that groups (mixed aged) kids together with the same learning level). Isabel and Ms. Reece go to Ms. Mila’s class, while the rest of Isabel’s class stays in the classroom. Today the RTI class worked on a “directions” assignment (see below).

2014-05-07 004_edited-1

Read the “interviews” and draw a description of what you think the “monster” looks like.

2014-05-07 002_edited-1

Isabel’s version of what the “monster” looks like from the “eye-witness accounts”.
So cute! I love when she draws!

After school, she was excited about getting an invitation to Ms. Mila’s birthday party in June.
