When I arrived back at school to pick Isabel up. The whole school was outside for a fire drill. However after sitting in the car for a moment, a fire truck pulled up and that doesn’t happen during a fire drill! I later learned that some men working on a fire hydrant across from the school had set the alarms off due to low pressure. Which causes the alarms to go off at school.

The Bible story today was about Noah and the promise from God given in the sign of a rainbow. After the story the class worked on making their own rainbows out of paper.

Isabel had to show me the new sensory table addition, “dirt”, after I came into the classroom to pick her up but I could smell it the moment I walked into the classroom! Isabel said there were worms and buckets to dig in the “dirt”. When she showed me the “dirt”, I didn’t need to see the “dirt” to know what it was and said it was coffee grounds. Isabel said, her and Makayla played in the “dirt” today and Isabel was a puppy.

The class worked in their Monday Morning journals and they worked on the letter “T”.

Makayla got her haircut over the weekend. Her mom said that she was trying to trim her hair but Makayla moved and she ended up having to take her to get her haircut. After class, Makayla wanted their picture taken again today, but I didn’t have the camera. So I’ll have to remember to take it on Wednesday.

Zachary was the special helper today. He brought a noisy yellow and black dump truck for show and tell. For snack Zachary brought to share cookie bears and milk. Isabel said she ate all her cookie bears and drank all her milk.

Today was the last day of celebrating Dr. Seuss and his amazing work. To finish up the week, the class tried “green eggs and ham” and to cook this meal, volunteers were needed so Brienna (Anika’s mom) and myself pitched in to help. Enjoy!

After arriving in the classroom, Brienna and I got straight to work on cooking up the green eggs and ham. Since Dany was the one to bring extra eggs, Mrs. W let him help me stir (for a little bit). Thanks for the help Dany!

In honor of Dr. Seuss: Green Eggs and Ham. I tried some of the eggs (from Isabel) but the ham just looked disgusting!

Reading the book Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss before heading to the tables to try it. Mrs. W asked for all the kids to try the green eggs and ham. Most of the kids did and seemed to like it. However their were a few that wouldn’t even touch it!

Makayla, Anika, Isabella, and Isabel all tried the green eggs and ham and like it. I do know that Isabel ate all of her’s and really enjoyed it.

Mila, Ja’Siah, Zachary, Rebecca, and Payton all seem to have mixed reactions to green eggs and ham. (Heidi from the office is taking pictures too!)

Rebecca wouldn’t have anything to do with her green eggs and ham and gave them to Zachary to eat.

They wrote their own names on them and then could draw their own picture on it.

After coloring their windsocks the kids would bring them over to Brienna and I and we added the streamers, made them into the cylinder shape, and added yarn to hang it.

After they were finished with their windsock they began making their letter “S“.

Today’s special helper was Emily. For show and tell, she brought her favorite stuffed dog, Pinky. For snack Emily brought to share granola bars and juice.

After class was over and parents arrived, I felt this little tap and looked down to see Makayla smiling up at me. She said,”Can we get a picture?” Of course!

The letter S is for snake, Seuss, and sun. I thought it was awesome that S was the letter for this week in celebrating Dr. Seuss!

Isabel’s completed windsock. She drew a picture of Daisy bouncing a ball and an umbrella. She decided that she wanted it hung in her bedroom. So it’s hanging in there.

After class, I volunteered to help with the p.m. preschool class as well (that’s a lot of work to cook up green eggs and ham). So I ran home, dropped Isabel off, cleaned up the skillet (that we used to cook the green eggs in), ate some lunch, and then headed back for more fun with the p.m. class.

I have got so say, Mrs. W and Mrs. Calvert were right about one thing; the classes are totally different in the way the kids act! The p.m. class size is a lot smaller then the a.m. class, there were only 13 kids today in class and several of the kids were out. Mrs. Calvert told me that the class is always missing someone and they never have a full class. Also, no one hardly volunteers (parents) with the class. Mrs. W told me that she thinks all the parents work and are unable to volunteer. Could be the case. There were more spills, more “quiet” please, more “inside voices” please, and more “keep your hands to yourself”. All in all though the kids are great and play nicely together during recess and free play.

Unlike the a.m. class however, only about half of the p.m. class would even try the green eggs and ham (which might have to do with the fact that they had a big lunch before coming to class). The few that did, enjoyed it and walked away with green teeth! So fun! I stayed for the remainder of the class, which was a surprise (and I think relief) to Mrs. W and Mrs. Calvert. They greatly appreciated all the help I gave them and I really enjoyed it. However it made for a very long day and I was worn out when I got back home so I laid down and took a nap before dinner with Daisy.

Today was mostly about reading and Dr. Seuss’s birthday (see more below), however they still did all the normal things they do each day. Enjoy!

The Bible story today was from John 9: 1-11 and was the story of the blind man being healed by Jesus.

At some point (before the 6th graders arrived) they painted Isabel’s hand and allowed her to decide the color to use, either blue or yellow. She chose blue. After painting her hand blue, they placed her hand on paper to make a hand print flower for the bulletin board (will have to get a photo!).

Today, they played outside, which they haven’t done in awhile because the weather just hasn’t allowed for it. She didn’t get a bike but had fun running and playing with Makayla and Payton.

The special helper today was Mila. For show and tell Mila brought 2 stuffed animals! One was a meerkat that was wearing a yellow crown! The other animal she brought was a white and gray wolf with pointy ears. For snack, Mila brought to share grape flavored applesauce, cheese crackers, and juice.

For the Read Across America project, the 6th graders were invited into class to read and play games with the preschoolers. Each classmate (or 2) was partnered up with a 6th grader. Isabel says she can’t remember the girls name that read with her and Addie but they played Cat in the Hat tic-tac-toe and Isabel won a game and the girl won a game too. Together, they read Horton Hatches the Egg.

On the way to school it was snowing and raining at the same time. Isabel thought this was so interesting and wanted to know how that could happen. I tried to explain it as best as I could and it seemed to answer her questions about how it was even possible.

After arriving at the classroom, Isabel noticed the colorful daisies someone had brought for Mrs. W. I spoke with Mrs. W briefly and she said she was feeling much better and was glad to be back. I didn’t want to pry so I kept it at that and told her I was glad she was feeling better and was back to class.

Later when I arrived to pick Isabel up from school. I was delighted to see her and Makayla talking with Ezzra (special helper today) about her show and tell today. Before leaving school the two girls, Isabel and Makayla, gave each other a huge hug and said goodbye. It was so sweet and cute, I have to chuckle just writing about it. When I asked about her school day today, she told me all about what happened during snack time when she had wanted to sit next to Makayla. She said she had an idea (about fixing the problem) and got to sit kitty corner to Makayla instead of right next to her. Since the 2 girls got to spend so much time together over the weekend, they have really bonded with each other! So great to see!

The Bible story today was from Jonah 1-4 and was the story of Jonah and how he disobeyed God and tried to ran away from God.

The class worked on their Monday morning journal writing, they worked on the letter “S” for snake. They also worked on their 5 senses; sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.

Sight, touch and hearing. When I asked her later at home, if she could remember them, she got them all except for touch.

When I asked what more she did for her day she mentioned Dr. Seuss’ Birthday coming up and they were going to celebrate with a small party or some other celebration. They had painted Dr. Seuss hats and when I spotted them drying on the counter, Isabel said that we weren’t allowed to take them home yet because they were going to use them for the party. I thought that was cool.

For recess they played relay games in the gym and duck-duck-goose because it had been snowing all morning long.

The special helper today was Ezzra. For show and tell, Ezzra brought a white dog, that had a special bag to carry it in and had lots of accessories too. Isabel also said that BOTH Ezzra’s Mommy and Daddy were the helpers today in class. For snack Ezzra brought to share cupcakes; with red, blue, yellow, and green frosting on them and juice to drink.

Gino had told me last night that we were expecting snow in the forecast (next several days actually) for this morning. Luckily for Isabel it wasn’t enough to close the school’s! The sun actually come out on the way to school and started melting what was on the ground fast. Then it was back to snowing, then it would stop, then snow again, then stop, etc. All morning long that’s how it went. Hopefully it doesn’t stick around for long.

This morning, we learned that Mrs. W will be out of school until next week. Her doctor “visit” on Friday was for minor surgery. Mrs. Calvert said that she is doing a great job recovering and is at home with her husband and daughter. So keep her in prayers…

Today the class worked on their Monday morning journals (since they were off Monday). Today’s letter was the letter R. R is for robot, rug, red, and Rebecca.

The Bible story today was from Exodus and was about Moses. When I asked her what part of Moses’ story did they talk about she said they talked about the plagues and the Pharaoh.

During recess Isabel got to “borrow” some extra gloves (which she said were very pretty, they were all different colors and even had sparkles in them too) from the school and got to play outside with the others. She said that they played in the snow together.

The special helper today was Isabella but unfortunately she wasn’t there today. So the special helper was Mrs. Calvert. For snack they had a cookie and juice.

Isabel’s name writing is getting so good. I wish she would focus more on it during the morning and complete the whole page but at least she finishes it and does a great job!

Her last name writing is so wonderful. I think the practice that we’ve done at home has helped her do such a wonderful job.

No school today in observation of Presidents day!

What a difference a day makes, the ice today on the windshield was thinner then yesterdays which made for easy scrapping. Thank you, Daddy! When we arrived at school today, the parking lot was completely empty, for a few moments I was worried that there wasn’t any school. Then realized that it’s the K-6th grade that have no school today. Lucky for them, they get a 4 day weekend with Monday being Presidents day.

Gino went with me to pick up Isabel and he went to the classroom to get her while I stayed in the warm car!

The letter Q is for: Quilt

When I asked Isabel about her day today, the first thing she told me about was who had to sit in time out. I really didn’t want to hear about that but she seemed to think it was important. After a bit more “digging”, we learned that Mrs. W was out of class today because she had a doctor’s appointment. Isabel said the class prayed for her twice. So I hope it’s nothing major and that it’s just a  routine check-up.

The Bible story today was in a different book with different pictures and it was a story about Jesus but Isabel couldn’t remember what it was exactly about.

This week the class has been talking about their pets. The above picture is of Daisy.

The special helper today was Dany. For show and tell Dany brought a Thomas the Tank Engine book. For snack Dany brought to share grapes, carrots w/ranch dip, cookies, and juice. Isabel said she didn’t want to eat the grapes and carrots (the good stuff!), so all she ate were the cookies BUT she didn’t eat a lot because she wanted to save room for the pizza we were making for lunch!

BTW: The practice we’ve been doing with our last name has really paid off. She has done so much better with it. Now if she can just focus on doing it and get it done cleanly and fast… will have to work on that!
