Kindergarten: Day 47

Our long weekend was great. We stayed close to home and in the house were it’s warm. Friday was a rainy day. Saturday was windy and sunny but not warm. Sunday was cloudy in the a.m. but cleared up later in day. We missed church this week because Isabel is battling a nasty cough and has a very runny nose. Anything coming out the nose, means we can’t go to church (Sunday School rules). I’m hoping she gets over this soon and it doesn’t develop into something more than it is. I guess we’ll just have to see…

Isabel didn’t talk about her school day today. She said, it was school open which is always the day before Chapel but she didn’t mention what they did during that time.

She did mention that several of the kids were not willing to share with her today, either at recess or in class. We talked about it further while we ran a few errands after school and hopefully this gets better for her. She sounded really sad about the whole thing. She also told me about the Canadian geese that were in the large field during recess.

She also told me she got to see Mrs. W for a moment while she was waiting in line, she waved at her. Otherwise she couldn’t remember anything else. On my way to pick Isabel up from class I too ran into Mrs. W and she just loves seeing Isabel and her smile too.

Kindergarten: Day 46

Isabel didn’t tell us anything about her day. She did mention recess and how Mrs. Boettcher pushed her on the swing. She didn’t even bring any paperwork home in her take home folder.

Gino picked her up from class and she was excited about that. Afterward we headed to the post office to check the mail (sure wish the HOA would hurry up and fix our mailbox!). On the way home we stopped and got a bite to eat.

Kindergarten: Day 45

After arriving at school we stopped by Mrs. W’s class and said hello. Mrs. W took a picture of Isabel with the classes fall decor and told us she would hang in on her fridge and give us a copy. Mrs. W really enjoys getting morning hugs from Isabel and I know Isabel does too.

Also, this morning, Isabel asked Mrs. Boettcher about her missing warthog book. Mrs. Boettcher said she hadn’t found one yesterday but she might have an extra one for Isabel to take home. Isabel actually found the book in her backpack, it had somehow gotten wet so it needed to air dry when we got home. She “read” the wordless book to me later in the afternoon about a warthog making muffins with his friend. If you turn the wordless, boundless book over the pages become a puzzle. Neat!

Today was show and tell for the girls, next Wednesday will be the boys turn. The girls were to bring something that began with the letter “Nn”.

Isabel had the same idea as a lot of the other girls, she took a necklace. The necklace she took was from one of the volunteers in her Sunday School class. Isabel said one of the girls brought a teddy bear.

The Bible story in class today was about Abraham. Isabel said she’s heard the story before but when Gino asked her what the name of his son was, she couldn’t remember. She did say that the story was bout Abraham moving away. Gino asked her if he used U-haul. I thought it was funny but she didn’t think so.

During recess Taylor and Isabel swung on the swings together. Isabel said that Taylor doesn’t push as high as I can because she likes to go high.

The opening activity was capital “Nn” practice. She did a great job except the far right column of “Nn’s” are really tight. Maybe she thought she was going to run out of paper.

Kindergarten: Day 44

The main road to the school is finally open! Hurray!! I can now leave home and be to school in under 5 min. instead of taking 20 min. So excited!

Isabel didn’t have much to tell about school today. When I arrived to pick her up they were coming in from recess. So I was able to observe without being noticed for awhile.

As we were walking to the car, she was looking for a book about a warthog. I told her we couldn’t go back to class, so she would have to ask Mrs. Boettcher about it tomorrow (and she did!).

Today was Chapel and Pastor Shawn gave the message. Isabel couldn’t remember what it was about. So I’ll have to find out Thursday in the school newsletter.

The opening activity was just a coloring sheet. I was a bit disappointed that all she did was scribble.

Isabel did mention that Mrs. Boettcher and Mrs. Kelso both tested the kids today. Mrs. Kelso had the kids point out letters of the alphabet as she asked them a letter. Mrs. Boettcher told the kids to count as high as they could go. Isabel said she counted all the way to 109 and then showed me she can count to 109! Silly girl!

With the first quarter ending in just a few weeks, the testing is getting more frequent. Isabel did a great job on this just missed the “Ss” and “Pp“.

Kindergarten: Day 43

This weekend we stayed close to home. Saturday, we actually got to sleep in! Isabel said she woke up early and thought to herself that there was no school or Sunday school, so she could go back to sleep. So she did and slept until 9 a.m.!! It was great! In the morning, I watched my home state football play and win!! Later after the game the sun came out and Gino went out to mow the front and back lawn while Isabel and I worked in the house cleaning up.

Sunday was a rainy wet day and after church we headed back home for some leftover lunch. In the afternoon Gino headed out into the garage to start a project of a rack/shelf. He has to get all the wood he purchased at auction moved off the floor. So he worked on getting a rack/shelf up along the north wall. In the meantime, Isabel and I were inside making chocolate chip cookies! The first batch of cookies were to salty and after much thought as to way, Gino figured out that I had used his salmon smoke rub of brown sugar and salt! Oops! Talk about salty! So we started over and ended up with much better less salty cookies!

When we arrived at school this morning, we noticed the “traveling farm” semi trailer truck from the fair. We talked about all the things Isabel might see when she visited it this morning. She thought she would see cows, stinky pigs, baby chicks and other animals. After arriving at the classroom we learned that Isabel’s class would be the first one to visit the “mobile farm”. So hopefully she remembers some of the stuff inside! We’ll see…

The traveling farm this morning.

Isabel said she had to take a few photos of the traveling farm as well! Ha-ha!!!

After school as we headed out by the farm again, I stopped to get another photo with the animals.

In the pens along the trailer were goats, sheep, chickens, and bunnies. We didn’t stop long though because the man with the farm jumped up and started yelling that the area was closed and we needed to move on. How rude! We were only looking.

Isabel said she enjoyed the farm. Before they stepped into the trailer, they got to step on this mat and when they did bubbles would fly up! Cool.

Inside the trailer they got to explore on their own. Isabel said she got to see food magnets. The magnets were strong but not as strong as Daddy’s magnets.

There wasn’t an opening activity today because the class was going to the traveling farm first thing.

For this activity, the class was given a newspaper clipping and told to find all the “Nn’s”. I think this is a cool idea! Why haven’t I thought of it before???

Today starts the beginning of the new month for the class. The class will be going over previous letters and numbers learned and will learn “Nn“, “Dd“, “Gg” and “Ff“. This month the class will begin show and tell, each Wednesday, alternating between the boys and the girls. This Wednesday is the girls first turn for show and tell. This month also marks fall parent/teacher conferences the 15th – 18th. Looking forward to seeing were Isabel stands with her learn and where we need to work in areas.

Kindergarten: Day 42

Again, Isabel didn’t tell me about her day. She did say it was free choice Friday again. Nothing else was said, other then she forgot.

More number practice.

Tower of Babel.

Back: (didn’t scan well) she didn’t tell me what this was, if it’s the whole tower or just the top, I don’t know.

Kindergarten: Day 41

This morning when we arrived at class Isabel handed Lliam the dinosaur picture that she had drawn for him yesterday after school. This how it went…

(as Lliam is walking away from Isabel) Isabel: Lliam this is for you.
(Lliam turns around and grabs the paper) Lliam: IS THIS A DINOSAUR!!!!! (yelling)
(Isabel steps back) Isabel: Yes.
Lliam: Thank you!
I say to Lliam: She drew it just for you.
Lliam to his dad: Look at this dinosaur my best friend gave me!
Lliam’s dad: That’s a great looking dinosaur. Did you tell her thank you?
Lliam: Thank you!

The whole exchange was so cute! I think both the kids were just tickled pink! Lliam for the dinosaur picture and Isabel for the kindness from her new friend in Lliam.

After school Isabel didn’t tell me anything about her day.

The opening activity was a maze.

So glad for this review of numbers. Isabel a times still writes her numbers backward.

Back: evidence of some of her backward numbers.
