Kindergarten: Parent Conference Day 3

This is the day! This is the day! This is the day that the Lord has made. That the Lord has made. That the Lord has made. I will rejoice! I will rejoice! I will rejoice and be glad in it!” sung by Isabel while getting ready for school this morning.

Isabel didn’t have a lot to say about her day at school. She did say they went to music class with Mrs. Seal and practiced their Christmas program. Isabel got to go up on stage and said her line. She said, she got it wrong the first time and was allowed to do it again…”The angles sang beautiful praises to God.” Each of her classmates has a spoken part in the program. I can’t wait to see the finished show in December!

After practice the class headed out to recess and then back to the classroom.

Beautifully colored turkey!

Kindergarten: Parent Conference Day 2

This morning we got ready and out the door on time and without delay. We arrived at the class just after Mrs. Boettcher opened the door.

Today was the girls turn for show and tell with the letter “Gg“. Each girl was to bring something that started with the letter given. Isabel said that someone brought a snow globe, that lite up and had lots of snow falling down inside. Someone brought gold coins. Another girl brought a trophy with a girl on it. Isabel took 2 stuffed animal giraffes from her Noah’s ark boat. She said she didn’t get to see the rest of the show and tell because she had to leave to go home. Bummer!

Today they had free-choice recess, because it was raining outside. Isabel first chose computer games and then decided to play school with Lincoln, Nevan, and Emma. Isabel said she was the teacher the again and I reminded her she needed to share her “role” as teacher with others.

The Bible story today was about Abraham and Issac. Abraham was offering his son as an offering to God. However God provided a ram for the sacrifice instead.

It’s raining on the sidewalk. It’s raining on the street. I think I’ll put my rain coat on and let it rain on me.” Is a new action song that she has learned the whole thing.

Mrs. Boettcher brought her guitar again to class. They sang “I am Jesus’ little flower”. Don’t know if this is the actual title of the song but Isabel said she really like the song.

BTW…

Our parent/teacher conference went very well. Isabel is doing great in school. Mrs. Boettcher is just amazed with her love of books. Mrs. Boettcher said when given the choice between coloring and reading, Isabel will go for a book instead. Mrs. Boettcher says she just loves that about her! Also, Isabel is at a 2nd grade reading level!

Isabel is meeting all her requirements for Kindergarten for the first quarter. She does need to work on slowing down while writing. She gets in such a hurry, that her work comes out sloppy sometimes. When we know that she can write each letter correctly.

She has picked up counting, very quickly, at the beginning of the year she could only count to 1-10, now she can count to 109 and beyond! She can also count by 10’s and does so all the way to 100.

We received alphabet flash cards for word blending of sounds. We also learned that after Thanksgiving she will be given a book each day and will be required to read the book for homework each night. The next day, she will have to read the book to either Mrs. Boettcher or Mrs. Kelso. At the end of the day she will get a new book to work on. Isabel is going to love this! And finally, we received “lines” for the Christmas program coming up in December. She only has 1 line to learn and I think she’ll pick it up quickly!

Way to go Isabel! You are doing so well and we are so proud of your hard work. God has given you an amazing mind to learn and we hope you continue to learn and grow as the year continues.

Kindergarten: Parent Conference Day 1

The book fair started at school today and runs all week long. Also parent/teacher conferences started this afternoon as well. Tomorrow is our conference day.

After school today Isabel and I walked through the book fair displays. Looks like a lot of great books are being offered for ssle. We didn’t stick around long because it seemed like they were just setting up. Maybe we’ll pick something up later in the week…

Today was Chapel. Isabel didn’t mention anything about it. Just that they went and it was sunny out. They didn’t get to have recess today because of Chapel.

With the new seating arrangement in class, she is now on the yellow (was on the blue) team and is getting to know Reese better. They seem to play together at recess more often. When we asked her what they play, she said they play school. When I asked her who the teacher was, she said she was.

Number practice. The pictures along the right side are 6 flowers.
We’ve been working on our numbers at home as well. She still gets them backward.

Kindergarten: Day 51

Today begins parent/teacher conferences which begin tomorrow and the book fair at school begins tomorrow also.

Our meeting with Mrs. Boettcher is on Wednesday.

Isabel didn’t mention anything about class today. Her answer is always the same, “We did lots of stuff.” When we try to get more information she “can’t remember”.

Great practice work. All the numbers are going the right way!

Circle all the items that begin with the letter “Dd“.

Phonics practice with the letter “Dd“.

Kindergarten: Day 50

Isabel didn’t tell us anything about school today. Only that they got donuts for Ansley’s last day and that in honor of her last day Isabel drew her a picture. The picture was a rainbow with flowers.

The opening activity was “Nn” work.

Phonics practice with the letter “Dd”. She missed one and colored the carrots and then got lazy or rushed with her coloring.

Back: I noticed she didn’t even complete this side while at school and when I asked her about it…she said, she forgot. Later when I went to scan the page, I noticed she had completed the work at some point.

She’s doing great at memorizing her Bible verses for each week. She does struggle a bit (sometimes) with Chapter and verse but otherwise she has done a great job learning them each week and remembering the previous weeks verses as well. Way to go, Isabel!

Kindergarten: Day 49

The road crew was out early this morning working on the new traffic signal at the end of our main street. It’s going to be so nice! I got to go through the green light on our way to school and felt safe crossing traffic. Some of the road “ladies” were removing cones from further down the street to open the final lane for traffic. It’s been over 2 years since the work began and I am so ready for it to end!

Mrs. Boettcher and Mrs. Kelso were both excited to see Isabel back at school. Her cough has subsided but is still lingering around. She was excited to be back and showed off her new purple fingertips!

I found out from the internet yesterday, that there is no over-the-counter medication for children under the age of 12 with a cough. The FDA has banded it since 2008. I did find information about giving her a 1/2 teaspoon of honey.  Yesterday it worked! She still was coughing but it seemed fewer and less harsh. I was surprised and will try it again for sure!

Today was Show-and-Tell Wednesday, for the boys that is. The items the boys had to bring had to begin with the letter “Dd“. Ja’Siah brought a Pillow Pets® dinosaur and a toy dinosaur that was smaller. Lincoln or Nevan (Isabel couldn’t remember who) brought a puppy dog. Since there are only 5 boys in the class they mostly brought dinosaurs.

Isabel has also learned to count by 10’s. She practices while she’s eating at the table. So cool to see that she’s picked up numbers and counting so quickly and easily.

Only one paper today.

Back: dot to dot.

Tomorrow is Ansley’s last day. She’s moving. I’m not sure exactly if she’s moving schools or moving locations. Isabel has just said she’s moving.

Today is the half way mark to day 100 of Kindergarten! I know the class is excited about this day, that is so fast approaching.
