Second Grade: Day 87

Today is Thursday and it’s P.E. with Mrs. S and piano after school with Ms. G.

During P.E. class in the gym, they played “pac-man” and hockey. Isabel said she’s played hockey before and really enjoys it.

Piano was a review this week, since Isabel didn’t work on piano.

Spelling Bee…

The Spelling Bee is tomorrow, Isabel says she is ready for the Bee to be over. Will update with results later.

Second Grade: Day 86

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel.

When I picked Isabel up she didn’t mention anything about her day. She told me all about her HUGE library book. It’s a collection of 12 short classic stories all-in-one. She can’t wait to begin reading it!

There was MAP testing again today in the computer lab.

Spelling Bee…

Tonight we went over words on the list focusing on words that she has trouble with.

Tonight when I was putting her to bed…

I said, “There is only 1 day left and then it’s Bee time.”

She said, “Hurray and then I don’t have to spell anymore Bee words. I only have my school words each week.”

Second Grade: Day 85

Today is Tuesday and it’s music with Mr. G and it’s MAP testing week.

Isabel said they listened to the Nutcracker again during music class. She said it sounds like the same thing over and over again. I told her that the music does sound the same or similar but it’s not. I think she’s losing interest in it.

MAP testing was today. They did math testing and will continue tomorrow with testing as well.

She didn’t mention anything else about her day and she didn’t even say anything about recess!

The Bible verse for this week is…

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me?” – Jeremiah 32:27

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is free choice. Isabel didn’t share today.

The Bible lesson today is God’s chosen people invade the promised land. Cursive lowercase letters this week are: “b” and “l”.

Spelling words for this week are…

beauties
babies
cities
duties

This was on the back of her scratch paper from MAP testing. She finished her work and while she waited for the others in her class to finish she drew. I thought it was cute; a beef gravy river and a hot dog and bacon tree!

Spelling Bee…

Tonight we worked on words again. The next 2 days, we will be working on those words that cause her to pause and think or she keeps miss spelling. The Bee is on Friday and she’s nervous about it already.

Second Grade: Day 84

Today is Friday!

On the way home from work/school I was asking Isabel all kinds of silly questions about her day.

Did you sing a song today?” – Her first response was no but then I reminded her that on the way to school this morning she was making up a song about a dinosaur. “Dino my pet dinosaur…”

Did you do any math?” – Yes.

Did you go to the bathroom?” – Yes.

Did you wash your hands?” – Yes!!

Did you go to recess?” – Yes.

Did you go swimming?” – No.

Did you play baseball?” – No.

Did you get your picture taken?” – Yes. Mrs. B, from the office, took our picture for Blue Friday (S.H. football day).

(This is from the school – I did not take this photo!)

Isabel is right in the middle of the picture behind a girl with a number 3 on her shirt and a tan coat.
You can only see Isabel’s little tiny head peaking out. Can you see her?

Did you eat lunch?” – Yes!! She liked the apples and caramel dip that I gave her with the PB&J sandwich. She said they were crispy and juicy!

Did you like it?” – Yes.

Did you have a good day?” – Yes.

Did you go to the moon?” – No.

Did you eat any bugs?” – No!!

This was great I enjoyed her responses and her laughing in the backseat. I will have to remember to do this again. There were other questions and answers but we can’t remember them and I didn’t write them down because I was driving home!

Second Grade: Day 83

Today is Thursday and it’s P.E. class with Mrs. S and piano lessons with Ms. G after school.

By the time I got off work, I was so tired, I forgot to ask about her day!

I do know that for P.E. they played dodge ball. While I was running kiddos from my class to the bathroom, I got to see a bit of the action as they played in the gym.

Spelling Bee…

Since today is piano after school, we give the spelling bee words a rest.

Second Grade: Day 82

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel, library day and FUN LUNCH!

Pastor C gave the Chapel message today on fear. He asked several teacher’s what they were afraid of. Teacher Mrs. B (from first grade) is afraid of snakes (along with Pastor C). Teacher Mrs. H (from fourth grade) is afraid of heights. Pastor C reminded us that even though we are afraid, we need to remember that God is with us and we don’t have to be afraid.

During library they learned the parts of a book.

2014-01-15 006_edited-1

Isabel said she made up this book about dogs.

For FUN LUNCH, she had cheese pizza, a chocolate chip bar and a crispy cereal bar. Wow! She didn’t eat all of it for lunch, after school she ate her chips and drank the juice.

Isabel didn’t mention anything else about her day, besides her science experiment (see below) they did in class.

The classroom science experiment: Sprout Science, they started last month and finished going over the results today.

2014-01-15 002_edited-1The class learned about seeds and germination. The students were divided into 3 groups;
Isabel was in group 2. Her group put their seeds in a warm, dark place.
Group 1 put their seeds in a warm, sunny place and Group 3 placed their seeds in
(not so cool) refrigerator.

2014-01-15 003_edited-1

They groups checked on their seeds before Christmas break and then again today.

2014-01-15 004_edited-1

Isabel said her groups dish of seeds sprouted or germinated.
Group 1’s seeds germinated and began to grow.
Group 3’s seeds didn’t germinate at all.

2014-01-15 005_edited-1

So the class learned that seeds need light, soil and water to grow.

Spelling Bee…

Tonight we went over the entire difficult word list. She got through the whole list (that’s 109 words!) with only missing 5 words. Awesome!

Second Grade: Day 81

Today is Tuesday and it’s music class with Mr. G.

In music they are still listening to the “Nutcracker“. She couldn’t remember what part they are at but she is enjoying it. She asked if we could go see the ballet and I told her it’s usually only seen in November and December each year. So we missed it but there is always this year!

During math period today the class learned how to “read” a thermostat (see below).

She didn’t mention anything else about her day, other than she hit her head on the ground after falling off the bars at recess. The school called me to tell me about it at the time and there was no bump or redness after it happened. She’s O.K.

Classwork…

Isabel had told me about this back in December and I was wondering when she’d get the certificate.

Spelling Bee…

Tonight we worked on a few really tricky words that have been giving her trouble. Hopefully she’ll be able to get them right from now on after all that hard work.
