Independence Day

Tonight we headed to a BBQ and get together with some of our church family and friends.

After arriving we took a walk around the pond, while we waited for others to arrive and dinner to be served.

After dinner Isabel went off with 2 girls that were around her age. We found them later playing volleyball in the front yard.

We sat over by the pond for the fireworks, which were going to launched in the far left area of the yard.

After dessert Isabel came back and hung out with Grandma and I while we waited for the fireworks to begin.

Snuggling down with Grandpa and Grandma as the fireworks begin.

Started out small…

a bit bigger…

bigger still!

It got cool after the sun went down but that doesn’t matter when you’re enjoying the show!

Almost to dark to get a photo.

As the sun gets further away the fireworks get brighter!

Starburst.

What a great show.

It was getting harder to capture the fireworks, so I stopped trying and sat back to enjoy the show!

Happy Independence Day America!

My Parents Arrive

My parents arrived this evening. They will be visiting us for about 2 weeks!!

Early in the day Isabel made Grandma a necklace out of flowers however in the heat of the day it didn’t last for long…

Isabel has been counting the days down until they have arrived. We are hoping the weather is warmer and not so cool as it has been. So glad they are here! Looking forward to getting out and seeing some new stuff!

We took them out to eat after they arrived. Grandma is deciding what to order while Isabel is drawing on the table.

While waiting for the food to arrive, Isabel and Grandma drew together on the table.

A group shot of us at the table taken by our waiter. We ordered a Pepperoni pizza and Chop! Chop! Salad to share with Grandpa and Grandma had something with chicken and a salad. It was yummy!

Happy Birthday Mila

Today was a gorgeous day for a princess/superhero party for Mila.

At the last minute, Isabel had wanted to go as a superhero but since we don’t have a superhero outfit she went as a princess…

Just before heading out the door. She had to get just the right look.
Bracelets. Ring. Crown. Shoes. Go to go!

The princess’ running in the backyard. So cute to see the dresses flying as they ran back and forth. No 2 princess’ wore the same dress either.

Piñata time!

Kelly (Mila’s mom) had purchased a pull tab piñata. Just pull the strings and the candy falls. A smart and safe idea for all those princess’.

Time to open gifts.

Isabel’s gift to Mila. A princess coloring desk and…

… a  lenticular princess puzzle.

Mila and Isabel.
By the end of the party most of the girls had their dresses off because they were getting to warm!

Happy Birthday Mila!

Art Museum

Today we took a trip over to see American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Art Museum.

We were not allowed to take any photos of the the Norman Rockwell pieces (BUMMER!). We did see 44 original paintings and 323 original Saturday Evening Post Covers. These covers were great to see, starting in the 1920’s and going until the last cover that Rockwell did on December 14th 1963 in In Memoriam: A Senseless Tragedy – John F. Kennedy, 1917 – 1963 “The New President”.

Some of the original art we saw was: Uneasy Christmas in the Birthplace of Christ (1970)Murder in Mississippi (1965), The Problem We All Live (1964)The Art Critic (1955), Merrie Christmas (1929), Welcome to Elmville (1929), The Law Student (1927), A Scout is Helpful (1939), A Girl Reading the Post (1941) – this was one of my favorites and was signed and given to Walt Disney. The Stay at Homes (Outward Bound) (1927), Checkers (1928) – this one looked as though you were standing right there in the picture and could smell the circus smells!  Going and Coming (1947), Christmas Homecoming (1948), Girl at Mirror (1954), The Discovery (1956) – Gino liked this one, he couldn’t get over the fact that the wood was only paint! It looked like real wood! The Peace Corps (JFK Bold Legacy) (1966), and 4 giant posters of the 4 freedoms that Rockwell did Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear (all from 1943).

We also saw a few glass works in Dale Chihuly’s Northwest exhibit along with wool Indian wool blankets and baskets from the Washington History Museum.

A tiny portion of the large wall of wool Indian blankets part of the inspiration of Dale Chihuly’s work.

After walking around for more then an hour we headed up to the third floor and into the art room, before heading up though we stopped by the giant puppy named Leroy.

The highlight of her day!

Leroy is made of cardboard and held together with glue and screws. He was made in 2005 by Scott Fife and is 10 feet tall! (He seemed a lot taller then 10 feet!)

Hanging out in the art room at the museum.

A cylinder chalkboard.

Below is some of art that we created while visiting the art room at the Museum…

A tissue paper flower and oil crayons by Daddy and Isabel.

Flowers with oil crayons by Daddy and Isabel.

Apple Tree with oil crayons by Isabel.

When we arrived at the museum the ticket lady gave Isabel a notebook  and small pencil to borrow. She told her to draw whatever she pleased as she looked at the art throughout the museum.

This was a lifesaver because Isabel got bored very quickly looking at all the Rockwell exhibits. Her final drawing is a house with Daisy in the left window and Isabel in the right window. There are 2 birds on the house and 3 butterflies, a rainbow, and the sun above it.

A Flock Of Crows

Again today, we spotted a bald eagle in our neighborhood. This time however it was so close I was able to get photos!

I first spotted the bird, as we were leaving the WalMart parking lot. It was picking up some road kill, followed closely by a large angry flock of crows. The eagle flew within feet of our car but I was s0 excited that I forgot about the camera in my purse! We followed the bird over to a empty lot next to Kohl’s…

Getting “attacked” by the crows!

Keeping watch over all those crows, while protecting it’s dinner.

As more crows move in… the eagle tries to eat it’s road kill.

Taking flight to get away from all those pesky crows.

25th Annual Easter Eggstravaganza

The school where Isabel attends held an Eggstravaganza on Saturday and it was a perfect day for the event. The event was held from 9 a.m. to noon and there were egg-hunts for all ages (crawlers to 12 years), face painting, 5 large inflatables, food, drawings, pony rides ($5.00), free balloons, a fire truck, live music (from the schools band) and 40,000 eggs!

Waiting patiently to go to the Eggstravaganza.

We arrived early enough to park in the school parking lot (some people had to park several blocks away!) and headed over to several of the inflatables for Isabel to crawl up, over, in, and slide down. We walked around and entered a few drawings and then headed over to “the fields” and the fire truck.

Sitting in the fire truck! She told the firemen thank you for keeping her and others safe.

Big smiles are had by all who sit in this seat! One little guy got so upset with his Daddy… big tears!

Enjoying the sunshine sitting on the front of the truck.

After that we headed back over to the gym to get Isabel’s face painted. The line moved quickly enough and we were done before the big egg hunt began.

Picking out a design; a bunny, a pirate, flowers, a heart with a cross in the middle, and a rainbow. Isabel chose the rainbow.

Holding still.

Cool! It actually last all day until bath time.
She actually wanted to keep it on until school on Monday.

Getting ready for the fire engine blast!

A quick shot of the crowd that attended with us.

Us!
Look at all those eggs… how many you going to get Isabel? She says 40…

… and she’s off (along with hundreds of other kids!!!).
3+ hours of waiting and it was over in 1 minute… seriously!

How many did you get Isabel?… 13!
(selective picking, going for the orange/pink ones this year)

Rock and Worship Roadshow 2011

The Rock and Worship Roadshow came to the area again but was held at Key Arena. Just like last year you could get in the door with just $10 to see; Anthem Lights, Lecrae, The Afters, Matt Maher, Thousand Foot Krutch, Jars of Clay and MercyMe. We arrived late and got to see everyone except Anthem Lights. Enjoy!

Bart Millard from MercyMe speaking about Compassion International before the show got into full swing.

Matt Maher.

Intermission before Thousand Foot Krutch, Jars of Clay, and MercyMe came out.
I really liked all the green.

Thousand Foot Krutch. Isabel was rocking out when they were on stage. If it hadn’t of been so dark I would have video taped her!

Isabel enjoying the show! This year we were farther away from the stage then last year. It was hard to hear when the artist’s were just talking and the music sounded a bit muffled at times but we had a great time. I didn’t get any pictures of Lecrae or The Afters and I don’t know why…

Jars of Clay. Only the 2nd time Gino and I have seen them. The 1st time was at Creation several years ago.

MercyMe!
