Her Toe

Like I mentioned last week, we took Daisy to the vet. The vet remembered us from 2 years ago when we took Daisy in for her front toe sore then. I asked lots of questions and got lots of answer’s.

First, all the little bumps that we feel on her body are fat pockets. She has one on the side of her neck, her right chest side, the top of her prosternum (sternum) area and one on the back of her neck. The one on the back of her neck is of concern to the vet. She said to me, if Daisy was her dog, she would have this one removed because it is not fat. However, since she’s had it for a long time and it hasn’t changed size or shape it’s not of to big concern but still get it removed.

Daisy also has a very active “skin tag” on the top of her head. It bleeds and scabs over and then the scab falls off and then it bleeds, scabs over, again and again. She mentioned getting that removed as well as not to cause infection with it being so “active”.

Now the toe that is irritated now, is not the same toe that was irritated 2 years ago. Daisy’s left foot was infected last time, this time it’s her right foot but it’s the same toe on both front feet that get irritated. The vet said that Daisy might have a toe nail allergy to her own nails!! The problem will never really heal and we should look into getting the nail removed completely (on just the toe that has the problem, not all her nails would be removed!). Poor baby!

So Daisy is now up to date on her shots and is on antibiotics, again, for her toe. She is healthy otherwise and has a great sounding heart (Isabel even got to hear it!), no parasites in her body, and has a great appetite!

Last night the wound was filled with puss and blood causing it to appear black! Yuck! This morning we realized that she had taken her shoe off during the night and had “cleaned” the wound herself!

This afternoon the wound is very red and still swollen but it’s not bleeding or oozing puss. That’s a good thing…right?!?

Old Girl

Thought I would add a picture of our ole girl.

We are taking her to the vet tomorrow for a check-up, shots and hopefully some calming medicine for the fireworks in 2 weeks! She had such a rough time last year, it was days before she was her normal self.

Daisy at 9 years.

Happy Birthday Daisy

Today is Daisy’s 9th birthday!

To honor the occasion, I made her a whole wheat carrot/peanut butter cake with peanut butter frosting. I found the recipe online and made it earlier in the day so it had time to cool. I think as soon as I started getting the ingredients together, Daisy knew that I was doing something for her. She sat right behind me the whole time! I even let her lick the mixing beaters.

The birthday girl and Isabel, holding the cake that I made for Daisy.

We sang “Happy Birthday” but she wasn’t the least bit interested…
she wanted that cake!
We let her lick some of the “icing” before cutting off a slice for her to eat before her dinner. She loved it! Her little tail was just wiggling.

Happy 9th Birthday, Daisy!

Happy Birthday Daisy

Today is Daisy’s 8th Birthday!

More white coming through as the years pass…

Most days you can find her sleeping either on our bed, on the guest room bed (if the door is open), the sofa, her bed, or her bed downstairs (never the carpet! She’s funny that way!) . She likes to snuggle but it’s mostly with Gino and me on occasions (usually when he’s not here and she realizes he’s not coming back soon enough for her liking). She’s gotten very spoiled over the years, she gets more “special”  people treats like banana’s, sweet potatoes, popcorn, rice, apples, pretzels, corn chips, Cheetos®, peanut butter, carrots, and anything she can find after Isabel is done eating a meal! However we have gotten her to sleeping on/in her own dog bed at night, instead of sharing the bed with Gino and I like when she was younger. Now that she’s older, she wears her sweaters more often and has been known to wear them during the summer months as well! Yet, she still acts like a puppy at times and could probably out run other dogs her age. She’s been a great dog and yet at times she gets on our nerves! We love her and would miss her dearly… like Dakota.

Happy Birthday Daisy!

Away

It’s been about a month or two since I’ve updated the family blog. At the beginning of August my Grandmother passed away and Isabel and I traveled back for the funeral. The plan, originally, was for us to stay a week or two and then that all changed after we realized the cost of flights to return home. So we decided to stay and drive back with my parents to Utah and then take a flight out of Vegas. Well, that didn’t work out either, so we ended up staying until the end of the month when my parents went on vacation… to our house. We rode along with them back home and got to save ourselves a few hundred dollars on flights for us. So now that I’m home and things are again starting to fall into a normal routine, I can hopefully get the blog back up to the latest news, information, and happenings of our life’s. So keep coming back, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do! See ya…

So Sleepy

We had spent a good portion of the day outside getting more plants planted into the ground and by the end of the day, we had one sleepy dog! We could’ve done some “dog tipping” (like cow tipping) with this sleepy pooch! After dinner she didn’t really care that Isabel had dressed her up to paint the town…she was tired. Enjoy!

All dressed up and to tired to care…poor Daisy.

UPDATE: Daisy’s foot

Thinking her toe was better, we were shocked when we spotted blood all over the carpet last night. Her toe/toe nail was oozing/gushing blood and I was worried I would pass out. Thankfully Gino was home and he was able to sit down and really see what was happening. I on the other hand, just tried to stay calm (for Isabel’s sake) and keep my toes from facing up! I got on the phone with the receptionist at our vets office and she advised us to  bring her in right way (thankfully, they weren’t closed yet!).

After Gino bandaged up her foot with what little supplies we had in our first aid kit, we headed to the vet. The vet was a bit surprised to see us back again, thinking that the toe/toe nail was healed. He poked around with it, while Daisy wiggled and licked his face (she LOVES the vet!). The vet offered some info on what might be the problem but stated he didn’t want to sedate her to really see. He’s hoping, like us, that this heals up without having to put her under and getting in there. Anyway, he mentioned it might be a sliver (maybe from when she pulled her toe nail out) that is up there causing irritation and bleeding, since the toe nail appears to be solid now (he pulled on it, Gino pulled on it, so it’s not the nail). Also he mentioned doing a biopsy on the toe (he really doesn’t want to have to do that) and seeing if maybe it’s a tumor on the toe that is just getting big, irritated, and bleeding. If that is the case then they would have to remove the toe to get the tumor.

Finally he said, “Let’s change the medication and get a stronger dosage to see if we can get this taken care of without having to do surgery, which I don’t want to do. We’ll bandage it up again, keeping it dry, and keeping her away from licking it!”

Finding comfort on Isabel’s bed this morning…pathetic!

So that is where we are with that!  We are back to keeping an eye on her, so she doesn’t rip the bandage off and get to the toe. We have to keep the bandage dry, so she has to wear a “boot” whenever she goes outside and give her med’s every 12 hours for the next 20 days!
