Second Grade: Day 70

Today is the last Monday before Christmas Vacation!

This week is going to be a really busy one, there is a lot going on before we can even think about going on vacation!…

  • Last week’s spelling test was moved to Tuesday of this week
  • Wednesday is the Christmas shop in the gym. (I am subbing on Wednesday morning)
  • Thursday is the Christmas program
  • Piano lesson on Thursday
  • Friday is a class Christmas party, special Christmas Chapel and a half day (which I will miss because of work)

The Bible verse for this week is…

“For unto us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

The Bible lesson for this week is the birth of Jesus.

The spelling words for this week are the same as last week

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is to share your families favorite Christmas tradition. Isabel shared our tradition of eating pancakes on Christmas morning. Teacher Mrs. A shared that she makes homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. Yum! Yum!

On the way home, Isabel said they practiced again today for the Christmas program on Thursday night. She also told me that she’s going to be singing a solo! Get out the recorder and let’s hear her sing! Can’t wait!

She didn’t have anything else to say about her day. It’s getting harder and harder to get information out of her about her day. I keep trying though…

Language arts is proper nouns with a test on Tuesday and “From Seed to Plant“. Which ties in with the Science lesson about plants.

Christmas Tree

We finally got our Christmas tree up and decorated.

We had started last weekend but ran out of time and with work and school activities going on throughout the week we didn’t get it finished then either. So we spent the afternoon getting it finished up.

2013-12-14 026_edited-1

Compared to last year’s tree, this one is about 2 feet taller and a tiny bit wider.

Our tree has been trimmed!

Second Grade: Day 69

Today is Friday and it’s testing day in class and computer lab with Mrs. T.

Isabel said she didn’t take any tests today except for the Bible verse. She had to say the verse aloud to Teacher Mrs. A.

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2a

They also had a free-choice day (their first one!). They got to choose whether to read a book (from the class library), play a game from the cupboard or put a puzzle together. Isabel said she put a puzzle together with some help from Teacher Mrs. A. Together they worked on a 100-piece puzzle with a “cute raccoon that was in a pair of pants hanging from a clothes line” she said. She had a lot of fun doing that.

During computer lab, they didn’t do any lab work; instead they watched 2 movies! She really enjoyed that!

Overall, she said that today was the best school day.

Second Grade: Day 67

Today is Wednesday and it’s Chapel and library.

My Project 3-001_edited-1

Chapel today was given by Pastor S., who asked the question, “What does Christmas mean to you?” Christmas means wait, trust, and celebrate!

Wait is anticipation that Christmas is coming just as the Israelites anticipated the Messiah so long ago.

Trust is trusting God.

Celebrate is the opportunity to celebrate the precious gift given to the world when Jesus was born.

My Project 3-001 - Copy_edited-1

For 1 week the sixth grade class has had a peanut butter and jelly drive for a local area food bank. Each class (K-6th) was challenged to bring the most jars. The first grade class won the challenge by bringing 159 jars! The class will have a root beer and pizza party next week!

The total school results for the PB&J drive was 369 jars of peanut butter and jelly collected! What a huge blessing to all the families that will benefit from the sixth grade class drive.

Second Grade: Day 66

Today we awoke to snow. It actually snowed last night before I went to bed but Isabel was super excited to see it.

Backyard with our first fall snow.

2013-12-10 003_edited-1Not a lot but enough for Isabel to say she wants a snow day.

Today is Tuesday and it’s again music class with Mr. G. Yesterday Isabel said they practiced in the sanctuary of the church.

She didn’t bring home any school work only her award.

Gym

Isabel made this picture earlier this year or late last year, not really sure when, but it’s been hanging on her bulletin board in her room for awhile and I’ve never thought to look at the back.

Today when I went to clean up the board, I flipped over the page and found this delightful artwork!

2013-12-10 019_edited-1

The front page just reads gym.

The back has lovely drawings of what I can only image is Isabel at the gym doing exercises.

Second Grade: Day 65

Today is Monday and it’s music class with Mr. G. The Christmas program is coming up next week, so they are working very hard learning songs and hand motions.

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is to share a favorite book about Christmas. Isabel shared her book…

2013-12-10 004_edited-1

By Carol Heyer from Grandma and Grandpa.
This book has beautiful illustrations and we read it several times during the Christmas season.
This year Isabel said she was going to read it to us.

This week’s Bible verse is…

“Do not confirm any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  – Romans 12:2a

The Bible lesson for this week is God sets His people apart – the Ark of the Covenant.

Last week’s 10 commandments test.

I need to get a video of her singing the awesome song that Mrs. A, taught the class to remember the commandments. I think that helped her tremendously learn the order of each one.

Today was a sad day at school. Our twin boys Mr. Ben and Mr. Nathan are leaving for Belgium with their family. Their parents have been doing missionary work there and have gotten funds to head back. The family is leaving on Thursday.

Isabel is very sad to see them leave since she likes both boys.

Please pray for this family as they continue to do the ministry work they have been called to do in Belgium.

Mr. Nathan (left) is in her class this year and Mr. Ben (right) was in her class last year.
We will miss you Mr. Ben and Mr. Nathan, may God watch over you and your family. God bless.
