Piano Recital

Today was Isabel’s first piano recital.

Piano Teacher Ms. G and 9 of her students played 1 or more songs for residents and parents in attendance at an assisted living home. Isabel did a great job. She was very nervous but got through the song with a few tears.

School Teacher Mrs. A. was able to come and we enjoyed visiting together before and after the performances.

Not very many of the residents were in attendance but those that were there loved hearing all the kids play. Afterward we talked with a few that remained after the recital, they all gave Isabel words of encouragement to keep playing no matter how nervous you get. Great job everyone!

My 1000 Post

My 1,000th posting has arrived!!

I am shocked that it’s here.

When we began this blog 6 years ago, I had no idea what to talk/blog about, let alone who’s going to read what I write!?! What do I have to say that is meaningful to those who read this blog?

Someone has been reading my words, most of those people have been family and a few friends. No one else has ever told me they read what I write, besides my own parents and they enjoy it. My father skims through the postings, mainly looking at the pictures and my Mother reads each one through. So someone does read it!

In those 6 years, I have really begun to enjoy blogging. I feel terrible if, I miss a day. This is my journal, about our lives and what we do. Some day, Isabel will be able to look back and read what she did on this and this day. She may even get a few laughs out of it and say, “Hey, I remember doing that!”

What I hope she gets most out of my words/blog, is that I love her very much. I want her to look back and remember those times that she has forgotten when she’s older. So she can sit at her dining room table (eating dinner) and tell her kids about the time she did this and the time she did that. Just like she enjoys doing with Daddy and I now and hearing about when we were her age.

So what I write is for her… remember to have faith, put your hope in Jesus. He loves you more. Laugh and enjoy this website.

It’s for you, Squirt! I love you.

First Grade: Day 61 – On The Air

Today is Terrific Tuesday, which means it’s Chapel and library day!

Today’s Chapel was given by Pastor Shawn. Pastor Shawn’s message was about endurance! He asked for student volunteers (Isabel raised her hand – but wasn’t called upon) to show their physical strength and spoke about training for sports. He then spoke about our spiritual strength and our eternal life race. Sounds like it was a great message! Thanks Pastor Shawn! (There will be no Chapel next week due to Christmas Program rehearsals)

Today is also the day that the whole class is “on air” at the local Christian Radio station!

They were nominated to pay tribute to all military personal by saying the “Pledge of Allegiance” on the radio!! After saying the “Pledge of Allegiance“,  they sang a small song that they sing each day after saying the “Pledge”. I waited patiently and recorded the broadcast in the car while it played on the “air”. So awesome and so proud!

(The video below was recorded on Monday but the kids reciting the Pledge didn’t air on the radio until today.)

Back in the classroom they worked on a lot of work today, Isabel brought home 5 pages of work and 3 pages of homework! Busy day.

Front: working with the /or/ sound as in for.

Back: working with /ed/ at the end of a word as in started, loved, and missed.

Front: nouns are people and places.

Back: working with more nouns.

Front: listen to the sound of the word pictured and pick the sound.
Does it go the beginning, in the middle, or at the end.

Back: is the sound a /th/ or /sh/.

First Grade: Day 14

Monday in class is called “Marvelous Monday”!

Marvelous Mondays are also All-School Open, the school assembly that is held first thing each Monday of the week.

This morning, I was able to get Isabel’s school work from last week. I’m not going to post it because they did a lot of work last week! She did a fantastic job on everything, there was one group of papers that she missed several on. After I reviewed it, I didn’t see how she got them wrong but after talking with Gino he helped me figure it out. After he looked at it, he mentioned how the question would be confusing for a little kid. So I’ll review it with her and hopefully help her to understand why she got them wrong. I later learned that the person that got Isabel’s homework over the weekend, actually corrected the work for her!

On her desk this morning, Isabel had 4 R’s! (I need to remember the camera!) I also took some time to look around the room. Teacher Mrs. B, had art work hanging up on the cabinets that the class had done at some point. Isabel was excited to point out her picture of a clown juggling.

There is a new girl in class, today was her first day of class! Her name is Fiona!

This afternoon we also got a call from the principle… Principle B was calling to tell us that Isabel had done a fantastic job on her testing last Friday in writing, reading, and math. WAY TO GO Isabel!!!

“Every Move I Make” is a song they sang in All-School Open today.
Isabel was singing while she was doing her homework and we decided to share… enjoy!

Phonics work “er” sounds as is her, first and on back nurse, works, early.

Words that rhythm with tap or sat.

What comes next… first he’s at bat, second he hits the ball, third he runs to the base, and fourth he’s at the base!

Phonics work with the letter “a”.
The two things that rhyme with cat (below) are a chefs hat and a baseball bat!

Kindergarten: Day 32

Today was Grandparents day at school. The school had a program with Pre-K, Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 5th grade students. After the program, the grandparents headed to the gym to have lunch with their grandchild(ren).

[vimeo clip_id=”30565911″ width=”400″ height=”300″]

Since Isabel’s Grandparents don’t live in the area, I went to record the show!
I’m not the best recorder, it’s kind of jumpy… Enjoy!

This week’s Bible verses:

“Ff” – “Fear not for I am with thee.” Isiah 43:5

“Ee” – “Even a child is known by his doings.” Proverbs 20:11

“Dd” – “Depart from evil and do good.” Psalm 34:14

“Cc” – “Children obey your parents in the Lord,  for this is right.” Ephesians 6:1

“Bb” – “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” Acts 16:31

“Aa” – “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Kindergarten: Day 24

On the way to school today, Isabel and I saw a huge flock of Canadian geese in the ponds along the road to our house. The ponds aren’t filled with the normal over-flow of water and the geese were feeding on bugs or something. I enjoy watching these birds and enjoy hearing them too. I don’t know what it is about them…

Today was Chapel. Isabel said that Mrs. Abra, the second grade teacher, gave the message today. They sang some new songs that Isabel said she hadn’t heard before. She couldn’t remember the message that Mrs. Abra gave. I learned later in the week that the message was about prayer and praising God. She also shared a book by Beverly Lewis, “What Is God Like?. In the book 2 children discuss what they imagine what God is like. They conclude that God is love and nobody loves us more then God and he never changes. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. This means his love never changes!

Today Mrs. Boettcher had them do review work of “Rr“, “Ss“, and “Tt“.

Lower-case “s“. She did a great job doing these. She didn’t hurry.

Back: She flipped her page over and drew a Super Butterfly!

Letter work “Tt“.

Back: “Tt

Number work.

Back: number work.

Recess today was cut short because of Chapel. However Isabel got to play with Taylor and they played “camping”. The Bible story today in class was about Noah and building the ark.

Bible verses for the week:

“Ee” – Even a child is known by his doings.” Proverbs 20:11

“Dd” – “Depart from evil and do good.” Psalm 34:14

“Cc” – “Children obey your parents in the Lord,  for this is right.” Ephesians 6:1

“Bb” – “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” Acts 16:31

“Aa” – “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Later in the evening, Isabel started singing this silly song! I just had to add it. Enjoy!

[vimeo clip_id=”30143509″ width=”400″ height=”300″]

Gladys, where are you going? Upstairs to take a bath.
Gladys, with legs like toothpicks and a neck like a gir rafe rafe rafe rafe
Gladys, stepped into the bathtub… pulled out the plug.
Oh my goodness, oh my soul, there goes Gladys down the hole… Glub Glub Glub Glub

more versions of the song.

25th Annual Easter Eggstravaganza

The school where Isabel attends held an Eggstravaganza on Saturday and it was a perfect day for the event. The event was held from 9 a.m. to noon and there were egg-hunts for all ages (crawlers to 12 years), face painting, 5 large inflatables, food, drawings, pony rides ($5.00), free balloons, a fire truck, live music (from the schools band) and 40,000 eggs!

Waiting patiently to go to the Eggstravaganza.

We arrived early enough to park in the school parking lot (some people had to park several blocks away!) and headed over to several of the inflatables for Isabel to crawl up, over, in, and slide down. We walked around and entered a few drawings and then headed over to “the fields” and the fire truck.

Sitting in the fire truck! She told the firemen thank you for keeping her and others safe.

Big smiles are had by all who sit in this seat! One little guy got so upset with his Daddy… big tears!

Enjoying the sunshine sitting on the front of the truck.

After that we headed back over to the gym to get Isabel’s face painted. The line moved quickly enough and we were done before the big egg hunt began.

Picking out a design; a bunny, a pirate, flowers, a heart with a cross in the middle, and a rainbow. Isabel chose the rainbow.

Holding still.

Cool! It actually last all day until bath time.
She actually wanted to keep it on until school on Monday.

Getting ready for the fire engine blast!

[vimeo clip_id=”22866258″ width=”400″ height=”300″]

A quick shot of the crowd that attended with us.

Us!
Look at all those eggs… how many you going to get Isabel? She says 40…

… and she’s off (along with hundreds of other kids!!!).
3+ hours of waiting and it was over in 1 minute… seriously!

How many did you get Isabel?… 13!
(selective picking, going for the orange/pink ones this year)
