Second Grade: Day 137 – Half Day

Today is Thursday; it’s P.E., piano lessons after school and another half day for Isbael.

Even though it was a half day, Mrs. S the P.E. teacher, had P.E. classes. She combined classes and the kids played dodge ball in the gym. Isabel’s class was combined with the other 2nd grade class and the 3rd grade class.

After I was finished with work, I picked Isabel up from the after-school care. She was enrolled today since it was a half day and I had to work. It made it easier for piano lessons.

She didn’t have much else to say about her school day other then she got hurt during recess in after-school care.

She hit her head hard on the gym floor. Teacher Mrs. T came to my class and talked with me about the accident and said they would keep an eye on her and they had given her an ice pack. After school Isabel said her head was still a little tender but she felt O.K.

This girl needs a padded helmet, seriously, she’s always hitting her head. We get calls from the school all the time about her hitting her head at recess! So glad she’s O.K. and it wasn’t to serious.

Second Grade: Day 136 – Half Day

Today is Wednesday; it’s Honor’s Chapel (for third quarter) , library and a half day.

Chapel was wonderful. I enjoy singing with the kids and hearing about all the awesome kids that go to our school. They work so hard and they deserve this time to shine!

She’s a TERRIFIC KID… but we already knew that!

Second Grade: Day 135

Today is Tuesday and it’s music class with Mr. G and A.S.O. (All School Open).

Since moving A.S.O. to Tuesday’s I normally don’t hear about it anymore, she tends to forget. Today however she remembered singing “Father Abraham” and going crazy with the moves.

Time spent with Mr. G was all about singing those Spring program songs.

They are beginning to learn multiplication facts in class. They are starting with the 5’s times tables. Isabel has known her times tables since last year, so this will be a great time to review.

She couldn’t remember anything else about her day at school when I asked her.

Second Grade: Day 134

Today is Monday and it’s the first day getting back to school and work after spring break. We had such a great time together away from home just relaxing.

It was a bit rough this morning trying to get Isabel out of bed but after she was awake it got better getting her to move. She keeps telling me she wished summer would get here faster. It’ll be here before she’s knows it and then she’ll wish for school to start again!

Today is also music class with Mr. G. Isabel says they have been working on their songs for their program at the end of the month. Looking forward to the performances, sounds great.

After school Isabel didn’t have much to tell me about her day. She mentioned she had started a “club” at recess to get kids to play with other kids. She has a “schedule” to play with different kids during recess. Maybe the “club” is just her way of getting to play with other kids.

This is another short week, there are optional parent/teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday. Both of those days are half days, school will be out at noon. Friday there is no school (for everyone) due to Good Friday.

The Bible verse for this week is…

“The angel said to the woman, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen just
as He said.” – Matthew 28:5-6a

S.a.T. (show and tell) this week is to share something special from spring break. Isabel said she was the only one that remembered to bring an S.a.T.

She took some of her seashells that she got from the beach when she went to the San Juan Islands.

This week the class will be learning the lowercase cursivev” and “z“.

Spelling words for this week are…

paragraph
petroglyphs
photo
telephone
graph
laugh
cough
rough
enough
tough
pursuit
recruit
birthday
buy
dance
dappled: marked with spots or patches of light or dark
exhibition: a show for the public
landscape business: company that designs gardens for customers
ranch: a large farm for raising horses, beef cattle or sheep
thousands: whole numbers written 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, etc.

Language arts this week is verb-state of being (is, are, was, were) and “Anthony Reynoso, Born to Rope“.

This week starts the first week of online spelling word homework. Just like her online math homework that is required for 30 minutes a day. This new spelling homework is also required for 30 minutes a day.

This website uses the words for the week (added to the site by Teacher Mrs. A) and turns those words into fun games and learning for students to learn their words each week. All the teachers at school are using the site now, so it will make learning spelling words more fun. Awesome!

Piano Recital

Today was Isabel’s first piano recital.

Piano Teacher Ms. G and 9 of her students played 1 or more songs for residents and parents in attendance at an assisted living home. Isabel did a great job. She was very nervous but got through the song with a few tears.

School Teacher Mrs. A. was able to come and we enjoyed visiting together before and after the performances.

Not very many of the residents were in attendance but those that were there loved hearing all the kids play. Afterward we talked with a few that remained after the recital, they all gave Isabel words of encouragement to keep playing no matter how nervous you get. Great job everyone!
