First Grade: Day 93

It’s Marvelous Monday! Which means All-School Open too.

This morning on the way to school there was a traffic accident at the top of our “hill”. When we drove past the scene, I noticed that our Principle Mrs. B was standing next to one of the vehicles talking with the driver inside. I didn’t notice the drive but did pray for all those involved. I later learned that our kindergarten teacher Mrs. M was in the accident. I will have to stop by her classroom and see how she’s doing. Isabel said, Mrs. M had stayed home today, which is totally understandable! Keep her in prayer…

Isabel had 5 “R’s” on her desk this morning when I dropped her off, she placed them all in the bucket to win during A.S.O. She didn’t get picked for a “Shining R” but she did get called to the front (along with the other participants) by Principle Mrs. B for recognition for the Spelling Bee last week.

She was given a participation certificate by the ACSI.
Very cool.

This week’s Bible verse is:

“Be transformed by the renewing of you mind.” Romans 12:2b
She needs to have it memorized and spelled correctly for Friday’s test.

Front: working with holidays.

In light of Isabel’s birthday today, we got a kick out of this school paper below…

Back: when to use “I” and “me“.

Some math work from today.

Isabel also mentioned that they started adding 3 numbers together! Like 0+0+0=? or 3+3+3=?.

Groundhog day crossword. Isabel loves doing these.

Front: color the pictures that rhyme.
Great job on the coloring!

Back: listen for the /ē/ sound and get the sheep to the tree.

Working with this weeks spelling words.

This week’s spelling words are:

me – mean – bean – be – beet – feet – every – about – low – road
– who – door – tight – letter – else – showing

I took cupcakes to share with the class around noon. Teacher Mrs. B says she shares them with the class before they leave for the day. Isabel told me that while no one was looking she ate another cupcake! That’s O.K. you can have 2 cupcakes in class it’s your Birthday!

Can you see the cupcake residue?
Haha! Happy Birthday Isabel!

The birthday girl and me!

Early Birthday Celebration

Since we can’t celebrate Isabel’s birthday during the week. We decided to celebrate this weekend! We headed to Seattle and the Pacific Science Center. The last time we were there Isabel was 3 and she doesn’t remember it at all.

We stopped for a quick breakfast at McDonald’s and then headed inside to see a movie first… Enjoy!

Eating breakfast before we head into the Science Center.

Daddy’s waiting to head inside.

We’re by the Needle!
Isabel wanted to go up but it was super foggy all day.

We watched “Flight of the Butterflies” in 3D which was great! After the movie was over we headed out to see the exhibits.

It’s like eating at God’s table in heaven!
It’s a BIG BIG TABLE!!

Inside a really BIG guitar.

After looking around outside by the Butterfly House at cockroaches, spiders, naked mole rats, beetles, and other small interesting animals, we went inside the BFH.

The butterflies were still eating breakfast in the BFH.

An “owl butterfly“.
These seemed to be every where you looked.

Bright orange (not sure what these 2 butterflies are called).
It didn’t seem like there were very many butterflies in the BFH this time.

After the BFH, we had time to waste before the staff fed one of the snakes at 2 p.m. So we walked over to the dinosaur exhibit (when Isabel was 3 she didn’t want to go inside, they scared her!) and looked around. We noticed that the recorded noises of the dinosaurs were gone. We think this is what scared her the last time we were here. She wasn’t scared this time.

Inside a space capsule, Isabel is on her mission back to earth.

Puget Sound animal tide pool.
Hands on learning!

By this time it was almost 2 p.m., so we headed back to the animals to see the snake get fed.

The staff feeds the snakes (the one we watched was a girl) dead rats, so as not to harm the snake with sharp teeth and claws. The snake still reacted to the rat as though it was alive, crushing it before swallowing it whole.

The snake was very active before the feeding. She moved around her enclosure waiting for her meal to arrive.
After the feeding she focused on her meal.

She had the rat down in about 5 minutes or so. Didn’t take long.
Isabel stayed near the front to see all the action.

After the snake feeding we headed back to the tide pool area and entered the new “Wellbody Academy“. Learning how to sleep well, exercise well, eat well, and wash well. We had fun. Isabel’s favorite part was squishing germs on the interactive floor.

Wash well: we learned about proper hand washing, played tic-tac-eww, and Isabel learned how far a sneeze really travels in the sneeze zone. We all played the “odor decoder” game.

Exercise well:  Isabel loved the “exergames” and smashing bugs on the interactive floor. Isabel tried the sugar burner exercises with a crank and recumbent bike. In “loft-a-palooza” she butt bounced and jumped pump a ball into a target overhead.

Eat well: At the food analyzer, she got to pick different food “puck” to learn about nutritional information. At burger planet, she got to learn about making better food choices at the drive up window.

Sleep well: we didn’t look around in the this area.

By this time we were hungry, so we decided to head out and get some food. We walked down to Zeek’s Pizza for salad and pepperoni pie.

At Zeek’s they gave Isabel a bit of dough to play with.

Happy Birthday Isabel!

Dough on her nose.

Birthday girl!
