First Grade: Day 54 – Half Day

Today is Wonderful Wednesday and music class with Mr. G. It is also only a half day.

This weeks Bible verse…

“Give thanks to Him and praise his name.” Psalms 100:4b

This morning Isabel told me she’s missed having P.E. for the past three weeks and that she’ll miss it tomorrow too. Which means 4 weeks without P.E.! No worries, she’s been running around the house so much that it’s hard to keep tabs on where she’ll pop up next!

With it being such a short week this week. Today they stayed indoors and worked really hard on their work. Isabel said they didn’t even get a chance to go to recess today.

A – All we that we have comes from Heaven above.
N – Numerous blessings proving God’s love.
K – Keeping us safe in His love each day.
S – Sunshine or shadow, He’s with us always.
G – Guiding, guarding, we’re safe in His care.
I – In sickness or health, He’s always there.
VVictory is ours in His name alone.
I – Incomparable Christ, He’s still on His throne.
N – Never forsaking, He’s with us each day.
G – Granting His blessings, He hears when we pray.

We have so very much to be thankful for this year. The Lord has continued to show his unfailing love for us. He is an awesome God and Father and he is worthy of my Praise and Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving.

First Grade: Day 53 – Honors Chapel

Today is Terrific Tuesday, it’s Chapel (Honors Chapel), Student/Parent lunch and library day!

I debated on whether or not to go to Chapel and I decided not to, thinking that the younger kids wouldn’t get awards because they don’t even get grades.
Was I wrong in not going…

Isabel received 3 awards today during Honors Chapel!

Receiving the highest award for her grade level; the Cougar Award! (This award is given out to only 1 student in each grade level, per quarter and is the highest you can get at school!)

Teacher Mrs. B helping her with her pin.

Principle Mrs. B reading why Isabel received the Cougar Award

“…she’s prepared”
“…cheerful disposition”
“…positive attitude”
“…kind to everyone and a friend to all”
 “…demonstrates strong work ethic”
“…being an example to fellow classmate”
“…works hard in all areas of first grade”

Standing with Teacher Mrs. B.

WAY TO GO ISABEL!
We are so very proud of you and all your hard work!!
You love to learn and we are so thankful for being such an AMAZING person!!

She also received two other awards as well…

Perfect Attendance for the quarter.

Academic success for this quarter!

So proud of this Girl!!

First Grade: Day 52

This week is going to be a short week at school. We have a full day today and tomorrow and then a half day on Wednesday and then off on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving! Tomorrow is also Student/Parent lunch, the first one for this year. We can either pick her up and take her somewhere or we can eat together at school. Either way, we get to have lunch with our baby girl!!

Today however, is Marvelous Monday and All-School Open!

This morning it was blowing rain when we headed outside for school. It actually has been blowing since yesterday and the rain has been coming down since last night. Not looking forward to our rainy season but at least it’s better then getting lots of snow. So I’ll take the rain, just miss the sun.

Isabel had 2 “R’s” on her desk when I dropped her off at her classroom. She was excited for that!

She didn’t say much about school today. She didn’t even tell me about recess and usually that’s the first thing she talks about! She’s very excited about student/parent lunch tomorrow though. However Teacher Mrs. B told me that “someone” was very “chatty” today and didn’t get her school work completed. So she as extra homework to do!

This week’s Bible verse, which needs to learned by Wednesday, is;
“Give thanks to Him and praise His name.” Psalms 100:4b

Front: listen for the sound of “ng“.
She missed one here.

Back: complete the sentences.
She forgot to capitalize the first letter of the sentences where she needed to.

Front: “ng” as in rung and tung (the tree).

Back: “oo” as in boot, foot, and floor.
I love the visualization that is given for each sound!
An easy way to learn the sounds words make!

Pick the best letters that complete the word for each picture.
She didn’t complete this page either, she didn’t trace the rest of the word.

Working with nouns.

First Grade: Day 51 – Half Day

It’s Fantastic Friday!

Today is normally music class with Mr. G but it was cancelled due to it being half day.

After class today, we stopped by the bake sale that was going on to get a few goodies to support the 6th graders.

Again not much was said about class today other then Isabel said she helped Mila draw some pictures for class. At first I didn’t understand what she was talking about until I went through her take home folder…

Front: fill in the missing “u” and then draw a picture.
Mila told Isabel that she draws good and she couldn’t draw very well.
So Isabel was giving her some tips…

She was drawing on all the scraps she could find.
Mila asked her to draw a giraffe and a moose.

Back: fill in the miss “u” words to complete the sentences.

The class talked about Joseph this week and next week they will finish the story.

Fill in the crossword puzzle.
Isabel was excited to do another one of these.

She recited her Bible verse correctly this week.
She struggled with “perseverance” but was able to say it correctly after some practice!

They have filled up their discipline jar to the top with marbles! After a vote between ice cream sundaes and a popcorn/movie day, the choice was made…
(btw, Isabel voted for sundaes)
So on Friday November 30th, the class will be having a popcorn/candy/pop movie day!
Sounds like a lot of fun!

First Grade: Day 50 – Half Day

Today is Thankful Thursday!

Thankful Thursday is P.E. with Mrs. S and computer lab with Mrs. T. Since today is a half day, P.E. with Mrs. S was cancelled for this week.

The class did get to go to computer lab but missed out on going to recess. Isabel said she took 3 AR tests. The school has read over 9,373,235 words so far this year! They are sure to make their goal of 50,000,000 words!

A lot of work was covered today over 8 pages worth! Wow!! I’m not going to add it but she did a great job on everything, she only made a few mistakes.

Welcome Back Brookelan!

Isabel wore her zebra hat to welcome Brookelan back to school.

Isabel said her classroom looked like a zoo! There was a bear, panda bear, lion, owl, and a zebra (of course). She couldn’t remember all of them but she did say it was fun to wear her hat all day!

Tonight we are heading to a memorial service for a fellow member of our church, his name was Brian. Brian was diagnosed with pancreatic 3 weeks ago and passed away on Sunday, November 11th 2012.

The funeral for Brian was Tuesday, the same time as Grandparents Chapel at school. He was buried in Kent at the Military Cemetery after serving 20 years in the military.

Brain leaves behind his wife CJ, two daughters Rubye (18) and Bailey (16) and son Cooper (6).

First Grade: Day 49 – Half Day

Today is Wonderful Wednesday and music class with Mr. G.

Not much was said about school today, they did attend music class with Mr. G and did get to go outside for recess.

Front: write a new sentence and use the word “and“.

Back: complete the sentences.

Front: working with her spelling words for the week.

Back: more work with this week’s spelling words.

Tomorrow is a special day at school….

It’s hat day in honor of Brookelan!

Brookelan had a bump on her head that wasn’t going away, so her parents took her to urgent care at the first of the month only to discover that she had a rare tumor “eating away” her skull. They did surgery on Tuesday, November 6th and Brookelan was home from the hospital on Wednesday, November 7th. She has been recovering at home since then but will return to school tomorrow! In honor of her return to school, we will be wearing hats to welcome this brave first grader back to school. PTL!!

First Grade: Day 48 – Half Day

Today is Terrific Tuesday which means it’s Chapel and library day (normally)! Since today is a half day, library has been cancelled for today.

This week is Parent-Teacher Conference and the book fair is going all week long too. This Thursday is also a special hat day, the kids can wear a hat all day in honor of one of our first grade students (I’ll explain later).

Today however is a special Grandparents Chapel.

Welcome to all the Grandparents.
The sanctuary was filled with many grandparents today!

Since I am off work I get the honor of attending in place of our Grandparents. The program began at 10:30 and went for over an hour. All classes and even a few of the preschool classes got up to sing to all the grandparents in attendance. It was great!

Program front.

Program back.

First graders singing their song for grandparents.
(Isabel is located on the left side, back row, fifth one in)

Pastor Carpenter (from the church) gave a great message about being a “cheerleader” for the grand kids. To enjoy a grandchild’s successes without the constraints that come when you are also responsible for the child’s behavior. Just cheer them on! Set a strong Christ-centered foundation for parents and grand-kids to follow in. The example he gave was of Timothy.

Fantastic message even for me, as I’m laying my “foundation” for my future grand kids!

More first sounds.

My Parent-Teacher Conference was short and sweet. Isabel is doing fantastic in all areas. Her report card shows all “Excellent Progress” or “+”. She won’t receive a “grade” report card until next year. She needs to work a bit on her neatness and completing her work on time, otherwise she’s going great!

Below is a copy of Isabel’s MAP testing results. They do this testing twice in the school year to see where the children are academically. This was the first test for this school year…

Isabel is the top dark blue line!!
The school district average is the middle orange line.
The national average is the bottom light blue line.
