Product Review: Taste Of Thai

Gino bought this coconut ginger soup base in hopes of a yummy taste of Thai at home. However…

He’d been talking about it for weeks and decided to make it today for lunch with some pot-stickers that I was making. I don’t like coconut but was willing to have taste of it just to try it. The recipe called for only 4 ingredients: Coconut Ginger Soup Mix, Coconut Milk, chicken breasts, and chicken broth.

The coconut milk can was difficult to open (shouldn’t have anything to do with the taste right). Gino eventually had to use a can punch to get it open and metal shards from using the can opener got into his hand. Not working out so good there…

When he opened the coconut ginger soup base, he takes a whiff and says, “This smells like something?” Then he hands it to me for a smell. I take a whiff and say, “It smells like Pine-Sol®! Seriously!” He laughs and says yes and continues making his soup. After adding the soup base to the coconut milk and chicken broth and letting it simmer.

He leans over his pot and with a spoon in his hand, he takes a taste… He looks at me and says, “It tastes like Pine-Sol®!” I wasn’t about to try it just for the fact that it smelled like Pine-Sol® and then to have him say it tasted like it too. No way! He said he couldn’t eat it so he threw it out and made stir-fry! It was the worst Thai food Gino said he’s ever tasted!

Homework

The month of March has arrived and so has the homework. This month is bunnies. Isabel worked on her’s this afternoon. Enjoy!

I cut up pretty tissue paper into squares and she (with some help from me) attached them with a pencil and a dab of glue.

She really liked doing this months homework.

Almost finished just need to get the ears done.

The bunny is looking away from us, so Isabel only had to decorate the backside (no faces please) of the bunny. For the ears she used two different colored glitter glues; 1 white and 1 pink with hearts. I’ll wait a few weeks to take the picture of the board at school to make sure everyone’s bunny is on “board”!

Rock and Worship Roadshow 2011

The Rock and Worship Roadshow came to the area again but was held at Key Arena. Just like last year you could get in the door with just $10 to see; Anthem Lights, Lecrae, The Afters, Matt Maher, Thousand Foot Krutch, Jars of Clay and MercyMe. We arrived late and got to see everyone except Anthem Lights. Enjoy!

Bart Millard from MercyMe speaking about Compassion International before the show got into full swing.

Matt Maher.

Intermission before Thousand Foot Krutch, Jars of Clay, and MercyMe came out.
I really liked all the green.

Thousand Foot Krutch. Isabel was rocking out when they were on stage. If it hadn’t of been so dark I would have video taped her!

Isabel enjoying the show! This year we were farther away from the stage then last year. It was hard to hear when the artist’s were just talking and the music sounded a bit muffled at times but we had a great time. I didn’t get any pictures of Lecrae or The Afters and I don’t know why…

Jars of Clay. Only the 2nd time Gino and I have seen them. The 1st time was at Creation several years ago.

MercyMe!

School News: Green Eggs And Ham And Letter S

Today was the last day of celebrating Dr. Seuss and his amazing work. To finish up the week, the class tried “green eggs and ham” and to cook this meal, volunteers were needed so Brienna (Anika’s mom) and myself pitched in to help. Enjoy!

After arriving in the classroom, Brienna and I got straight to work on cooking up the green eggs and ham. Since Dany was the one to bring extra eggs, Mrs. W let him help me stir (for a little bit). Thanks for the help Dany!

In honor of Dr. Seuss: Green Eggs and Ham. I tried some of the eggs (from Isabel) but the ham just looked disgusting!

Reading the book Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss before heading to the tables to try it. Mrs. W asked for all the kids to try the green eggs and ham. Most of the kids did and seemed to like it. However their were a few that wouldn’t even touch it!

Makayla, Anika, Isabella, and Isabel all tried the green eggs and ham and like it. I do know that Isabel ate all of her’s and really enjoyed it.

Mila, Ja’Siah, Zachary, Rebecca, and Payton all seem to have mixed reactions to green eggs and ham(Heidi from the office is taking pictures too!)

Olivia, Eden, Dany, Lilliana, and Ezzra enjoying green eggs and ham.

Rebecca wouldn’t have anything to do with her green eggs and ham and gave them to Zachary to eat.

Isabel enjoyed her green eggs and ham. “They were yum.” she said.

Waiting in the hall after recess for other’s to finish up in the bathroom.

After recess and snack time, the class made windsocks.

Focusing on drawing and making awesome windsocks.

They wrote their own names on them and then could draw their own picture on it.

Special helper Emily and special helper friend Addie working together.
After coloring their windsocks the kids would bring them over to Brienna and I and we added the streamers, made them into the cylinder shape, and added yarn to hang it.

After they were finished with their windsock they began making their letter “S“.

Special helper Emily with her show and tell.

Today’s special helper was Emily. For show and tell, she brought her favorite stuffed dog, Pinky. For snack Emily brought to share granola bars and juice.

After class was over and parents arrived, I felt this little tap and looked down to see Makayla smiling up at me. She said,”Can we get a picture?” Of course!

The letter S is for snake, Seuss, and sun. I thought it was awesome that S was the letter for this week in celebrating Dr. Seuss!

Isabel’s completed windsock. She drew a picture of Daisy bouncing a ball and an umbrella. She decided that she wanted it hung in her bedroom. So it’s hanging in there.

After class, I volunteered to help with the p.m. preschool class as well (that’s a lot of work to cook up green eggs and ham). So I ran home, dropped Isabel off, cleaned up the skillet (that we used to cook the green eggs in), ate some lunch, and then headed back for more fun with the p.m. class.

I have got so say, Mrs. W and Mrs. Calvert were right about one thing; the classes are totally different in the way the kids act! The p.m. class size is a lot smaller then the a.m. class, there were only 13 kids today in class and several of the kids were out. Mrs. Calvert told me that the class is always missing someone and they never have a full class. Also, no one hardly volunteers (parents) with the class. Mrs. W told me that she thinks all the parents work and are unable to volunteer. Could be the case. There were more spills, more “quiet” please, more “inside voices” please, and more “keep your hands to yourself”. All in all though the kids are great and play nicely together during recess and free play.

Unlike the a.m. class however, only about half of the p.m. class would even try the green eggs and ham (which might have to do with the fact that they had a big lunch before coming to class). The few that did, enjoyed it and walked away with green teeth! So fun! I stayed for the remainder of the class, which was a surprise (and I think relief) to Mrs. W and Mrs. Calvert. They greatly appreciated all the help I gave them and I really enjoyed it. However it made for a very long day and I was worn out when I got back home so I laid down and took a nap before dinner with Daisy.

School News: Read Across America

Today was mostly about reading and Dr. Seuss’s birthday (see more below), however they still did all the normal things they do each day. Enjoy!

The Bible story today was from John 9: 1-11 and was the story of the blind man being healed by Jesus.

At some point (before the 6th graders arrived) they painted Isabel’s hand and allowed her to decide the color to use, either blue or yellow. She chose blue. After painting her hand blue, they placed her hand on paper to make a hand print flower for the bulletin board (will have to get a photo!).

Today, they played outside, which they haven’t done in awhile because the weather just hasn’t allowed for it. She didn’t get a bike but had fun running and playing with Makayla and Payton.

The special helper today was Mila. For show and tell Mila brought 2 stuffed animals! One was a meerkat that was wearing a yellow crown! The other animal she brought was a white and gray wolf with pointy ears. For snack, Mila brought to share grape flavored applesauce, cheese crackers, and juice.

For the Read Across America project, the 6th graders were invited into class to read and play games with the preschoolers. Each classmate (or 2) was partnered up with a 6th grader. Isabel says she can’t remember the girls name that read with her and Addie but they played Cat in the Hat tic-tac-toe and Isabel won a game and the girl won a game too. Together, they read Horton Hatches the Egg.

Tumbling Tykes: Day 5

Moving along with our tumbling/gymnastics class… Ms. Mo has expanded on what they have learned from last month. It’s great to see them actually focusing more on what Ms. Mo has to say and wanting to do what she does. Enjoy!

To get the classes heart rate up. Ms. Mo had each one run and hop through her slalom course. They did this twice and then headed over to the mat.

Stretching out.

More stretching.

Doing the “donkey kick” for the head stand from last week.

Jump off, do a jumping-jack in midair and land like “superman” or dismount.

Heal-toe, heal-toe, heal-toe, heal-toe… dismount!

Working on the “monkey-roll” with Ms. Mo. Isabel’s got to remember to keep those feet together!

Backward balance beam work; heal-toe, heal-toe, heal-toe, heal-toe… dismount!

After Ms. Mo went through each area of exercise with the whole class. She took each student one-on-one over to the far mat to work on areas of improvement.

No story today because the class went over in time. However Mrs. Mo went over safety issues and they had a treat!
